Nephilim, what are you doing still up, have you been lurking? Haven't seen ya all nite and boom, there you are, or maybe it's daylight where you're at? Fatman, version 1.4 of DVD43 requires patin couffin, version 2.0 doesn't. Unfortunately methinks they will be charging for 2.0 after a 30 day free trial, while 1.4 will remain freeware.

DVD43 is now stand-alone, which means it now works without the VSO's Patin-Couffin driver. -- May i suggest you just upgrade your DVD43.

Thank you all for your help. I have downloaded the Patin-C driver and will install it this weekend.
what I cannot understand is why DVD Shrink on my machine decrypts the movie and shrinks and burns it whereas on Jo's machine it will not decrypt it. Why is it so?

I would say the problem is likely to be human error or possibly a software interference issue. With long experience I have yet to run into the latter. Anything that I have ever tried to use Shrink to decrypt, it was capable of doing. Hopefully the friend is using the latest version. The link was given, so you can check that out. Even the older versions decrypted well.

The only other question I would ask is what are the specs and OS on the system your friend is using? As I said before, Shrink is a good free program and has few inherent problems.

Jeanc1, if you use the standalone version of DVD43, you will have to buy after 30 days( I ran my clock up a month and sure enuff, it expired with a message asking did I want to purchase), being familiar with it, dvd region free, and anydvd, I would buy the latter. v.1.4 with patin couffin will remain free(for the time being anyway). fatman, i think you mean it decrypts and shrinks, it can't burn, it must depend on Nero or decrypter, etc. We don't want to give a newbie the wrong idea. good luck this weekend!

Big O may well be right, are you using the right terms for what is happening. AD has a glossary and there is also some good guides. If you can't find a good guide for the shrink here at AD, let me know and I'll PM the URL.

When it does come to the use of a retail background decrypter, Big O gave you an excellent choice. AnyDVD does a good job. I to use both Region Free and AnyDVD when the need arises and have an affinity for the latter.

Now look what you've done, I unistalled DVD43 and now I won't be able to see if the 30 days has run out. Nephilium installed it and I think he's also waiting the 30 days out.

People does anyone know if there's a time limit on DVD43 2.0?

BTW, soph and brobear, got a lite-on dual layer burner yesterday on ebay, 90 bucks new, I figured what the hell. Best Buys has the media-15.00-ouch! Might be just the thing for guys like wulfie who want to leave everythin in. I will let you know how it does after i install it.

It was a brand new SOHW 832S lite-on, every review I've read on it has been extremely positive. I just spent 80.00 on copy2 remember, so what's 90.00 for a dual layer burner.

Agreed, and yes I've been watching Dual Layer burners too. I'm just concerned that the first generation units aren't going to fly. I'm predicting all kinds of burner and media problem, but I could be wrong, and accoridng to my wife that's quite common. If enough people start having good experineces with them, then I'm aboard.

Hopefully the media will come down fairly reasonable, It doesn't make sense if it doesn't. You could actually pay more for your backup than the movie your backing up! at 15.00 a pop!

They'll have to get the cost of the media down as well for me to come aboard. With the current tech, I'm getting good results. I don't care if the titles and menus aren't the best. I'm still getting them with good quality on the main titles.

Big O
I'll be aboard soon, hopefully. I may have been exaggerating, the titles really aren't that bad either, plus, I don't have to watch them that long.

My thinking is this, for extremely long epic like movies with some extras I may wnat to keep, then I'll use it. Otherwise I'll be doing the same as you. I gotta admit my curiosity has got the better of me, I'm anxious to see how it does.

I have a DRU-700 Sony DL burner. It is a nice 8X (single layer) +/-DVD burner.

I have really no use for it's DL function at this time. With the great software we all have, especially Rebuilder/CCE/DVDRemake, I cannot think of almost no circumstance where I will need Double Layer function.

If the price of the media does not drop to LESS THAN $2.00 for a blank disc, the whole concept will be a gigantic bust. Maybe, just maybe, if they develop a Double Layer DVD+/-RW for maximum $4-5 will they sell a few more units to regular guys who are not techno-nuts like us.

You have 2 programs competing for the same system resources, like memory. They have the option to turn them off. I always leave them off and only turn them on as needed and I would never turn the 2 on at the same time. Why would you have them both on at the same time? Other than that being the default, which you had a choice of changing with AnyDVD.
