DVD Decrypted doesn't cause any kind of harm or injurious smashing to a ripped file
Sophocles,
It has been my personal experience and that of others that Decrypter can and does cause problems with certain IFO files especially in some Disney Movies and in some dual-angled motion pictures. Re-reading my post I didn't accurately reflect that. My statement that it happens in every dual-angled film was not accurate. Hence, I shall correct that statement in the future. Thanks for the correction :D)
BTW, My DVD's were pristine and my drives were and are in peak working order -

Quote:
from what I read that cuts the putting it to a hard drive then burning,
"Why do I have to backup to my HD ?"

Think of it like you're making a Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich. Everything you need is in one place, the cupboard. All your DVD files are in one place, the original DVD.

You need a place to put all your ingredients, the Bread, Peanut butter and the Jelly - so that you can assemble them into a sandwich, you use the kitchen table. You need a place to put all the IFO, BUP and VOB files you are taking from the original DVD, you need to assemble them into a VIDEO_TS folder OR you need to put them all together into an ISO image, you need a place to work, you need the HD.

You assemble your sandwich putting your Peanut butter and your Jelly into two pieces of bread. When you are finished you can one of two things. First, you can leave all the "Fixens" on then table to make another sandwich sometime later OR, you can put it all away and have your table clear again. In DVD backup, we needed the HD to lay out all the IFO, BUP and VOB files and then to assemble them into a folder called your VIDEO_TS folder OR to put them all together onto an ISO image. When you are finished you can do one of two things. First, we could leave them on the HD to make another backup DVD later OR we can have them in a temporary folder to be deleted and have our HD space clear again.

So you?ll have to do it the way we all do -

Cheers

and all, I saw what he did and I figured I would give him one chance, just one - not adding anything else into the mix just what he has - -

Well Pete,
Consider yourself played. mrlovekim has cross threaded and posted on at least 4 or 5 threads that I am aware of. All on the same problem and on one jerking us around and then confessing to have certain software and not others.

He has been told how to use Shrink at least 5 or 6 times with pretty much the same advice. He has also been told how to use the different programs available with Nero, such as the Recode2. He has been told about various decrypters and how they work. I even told him where to find the Shrink guide. The only thing he needs to be reading at this point according to the software he says he has.

He said he had Nero and Shrink. The guides show in detail how the Shrink works and how it works with a burner. Between the instructions he's received and guides, he should be adept at using Shrink by now. Just think, he's become a junior member with all his questions just trying to learn how to use Shrink. Now that is an accomplishment.

Sorry scubapete but DVD Decrypter doesn't have a problem with It has been my personal experience and that of others that Decrypter can and does cause problems with certain IFO files

What IFO files are you talking about?

especially in some Disney Movies and in some dual-angled motion pictures.

If you've browsed any of the threads that I've been contibuting to lately you'd know that I've spent several days just working on the Disney Multi-angle, and interleaving problem. It has ablsolutely nothing to do with DVD Decrypter or the injuriously smashing of IFO files.

Please no more peanutbutter and pancake analogies at least when you're conversing with me, I don't talk down to you like that. I like you pete and I think that you do wonders for Newbies, you make them feel at home, welcome, but when you go outside of your range of knowledge you strike at the insensiblities of those who have it.

Sophocles,
BTW, I use HD files extensively. I use Decrypter as the ripper on most of the files. I have yet to have a problem with the decrypted files. I noticed for those that like recording multi angle movies that Lightning-UK incorporated support for that procedure in DVD Decrypter. There is a box to be checked for multi angle support.

I stopped using IFO file mode a long time ago. I use ISO Read, load the file in an emulator (Daemon is my choice) and let the software read the entire ISO as a disc. The procedure works with almost all software. XCopy Express is the exception. So I have the Platinum suite that is 1/2 and 1/2. It works with everything else I've tried it with and that's a lot. Shrink doesn't need it, but then I rarely use Shrink anymore (good learning tool and dependable, but I wanted better quality for the big screen). This method of decryption and loading works great for HD files in ISO.

The Disney movies can be troublesome. In fact Lion King 1 1/2 wouldn't record with the 321 software I was using, Platinum Advanced. I switched to Nero Recode2 and recorded the movie. It was an incompatability problem between the software and the movie files, not the way the file was decrypted. The software wasn't defective as I used the Platinum XCopy to backup another Disney movie Jungle Book 2.

I see a lot of Disney movies with the children in the family. So there is something about the way Disney movies are encoded that affects the way transcoding software functions. Not all movies will even record with a quality grade software program. That was the only time that the Platinum failed to record a movie and it was a Disney animated movie. Same file and 2 programs, one burned the file and the other didn't. Now that isn't the decryption.

As I said, I use the DVD Decrypter most of the time and I've done a lot of work with it. My results are excellent and I thank both the DVD Decrypter and the various software programs I use. Now that we know where the author is, we can go visit him if we run into a problem we can't solve ourselves.

Hey pete, good to have ya back. I may have said that in another thread, hope this isn't considered double-posting. heh heh Pete, the only reason I steered him to recode with anydvd, or some like program, is because I had already explained shrink, decrypter,Nero, and img tool to him, because that's what he said he had. He couldn't seem to get them to work, So I was trying to give him a one program solution using recode w/anydvd. On the fly w/recode requires no folders to browse to, no programs to switch to, Just one little temp file for the program to work out of, and it's got to be one of the easiest, most direct softwares for dvd backup there is. He even burns out of it when finished. Heck Pete, you were the one that showed me the wonders of recode w/anydvd, remember? Never forgotten that, btw. Thus, that's the reason I wrote him the little guide in this forum for recode and anydvd, if he can't use it, maybe someone else can. Mrlovkim, i hope you succeed in your endeavor, with Pete behind ya, you stand a good chance, he is very good in breaking down terms and processes so that a newbie can understand.

I use IFO mode when it suites me, and without incident. I've managed to back every Disney movie I own and being teacher I have quite a few.

If you want to have fun with a movie that has multi-angles and interleaving then try DareDevil (it has 12 angles) with DVDrebuilder and Cinema Craft Encoder. And yes I injuriously smash the IFO's before I begin editing the movie.

Bro, hell, forget the kids, I watch the disney movies myself and am not ashamed to admit it. I think at last count I've got 62 animated Disney films on dvd and am anxiously awaiting Aladdin on dvd in October. Maybe they remind me of younger days. I make backups of my disney movies for the kids, cos I dont want them f---ing up my originals. Recode does an excellent job on disney with the multiangles. Hey bro, not to get off-subject, but UT plays Kentucky at home this year. You outta come on down. Last regular game of the season, Nov. 27. Calhouns on the river before and after.

Heck, I didn't say I didn't enjoy them. I caught Disney on Ice at Rupp Arena the last time they were in Lexington. I'm a Disney fan from way back. I watched the original Peter Pan swinging on a wire and Peter didn't have one, get it?

Haven't been to Calhoun's, sounds like it might be fun. Can a person get decent tickets without taking out a major loan?

I wouldn't even charge for the tickets. Last time i was in Rupp Arena, vols got their asses kicked, guess it was payback for the football game. soph- true, how true

The last time I saw UK play football with UT, UK got their can kicked. I know I won't be in the box seats, but I hope you don't put me in the nose bleed section, behind the concession booth, behind the men's room. Sounds like it could be a good Saturday. If the offer stands, I accept the invitation.

Actually, there's a good possibility we could get em for that game, if it was Ga. Ala. or Fla., you'd be s--- outta luck, it will also depend on how well they do this year. I like the ones on the 35 yard line 6 rows up..You need one or two?

BTW, I don't mind paying for tickets. I just hate taking my chances with scalpers. UK - UT tickets are hard to come by in either state. I remember the ticket lines. I was never connected well enough to get the good tickets or have any delivered. And getting a season ticket worth anything would be like winning a lottery.

Yea, Nero...? 8~)

Sophocles,

Quote:

I was referring to Pirates of the Caribbean - using DVD Decrypter, I lost the scene where the "Blacksmith" presents the sword to the "Governor" totally. It was OK with SmartRipper and 3.0 DVD Shrink (ver 3.17 didn't work at all)
Problems with Lion King 1 1/2 also. There were also incidences with Freddy vs. Jason and Returner.

AFA the peanut butter analogy,

I was answering Mrlovkim's post - page 4 - I started my explanation with his quote, I - I'm sorry that you believe everything I write is directed at you - it really isn't you know -

How about letting us know how we should reply to Newbies that won't offend you -
Quote:
I was only hoping to use my Nero recode with anydvd to make things faster, from what I read that cuts the putting it to a hard drive then burning, but can't get that to work
It would appear that your opinion is a carved-in Granite fact. I don't agree, this is a forum where everyone should be allowed to voice their beliefs, not a place where only your thoughts count., Not everyone thinks the way you do. Please don't tell me my experiences haven't happened. Take a second and look at your sig.

Many have enjoyed the peanut butter explanation, I will continue to use it.

Let's get along shall we, different opinions and all ?

I don't like to waste my time and I know you don't - BS like this has to be stopped. As you know my typing is quite a chore and to waste it makes me wonder why I bothered in the first place (not to mention wearing my pencils down, lol).

Cheers

Bigorange,

I wasn't aware of all the other posts our friend was on or what was being said there. When I made that post under yours, I thought to use those programs he already had instead of adding AnyDVD on top. There are some who aren't into Backups as much as we are so, I thought, what's the harm in introducing them to our little hobby (lol, not so little if you ever saw how much stuff I have on my PC) by having them use something which didn't cost them anything at all.

I was offering a different point of view, which is what this forum is all about (or at least it should be).

No offence to you but, then again, I don't think you took any offence to begin with ? you be the man :P)

Once again all, let's try to get along, ya think ?

I understand and perhaps I was somewhat harsh in my response, I promise to try and get along. And I will do my best to ignore the peanutbutter analogies if only you can perhaps back down a little on the DVD Decrypter disassembling injurious smashing IFO's a bit.

I ripped Pirates of The Carribean using DVD Decrypter without incident. In fact I have over 400 movies backed and most of them were ripped using Decrypter. If you'd like to learn more about working with multi angles and interleaves then try this thread.

If you'd like to join us in experimenting with DVDrebuilder/CCE then you're welcome? We're currently working with DVDremake and it's rendering some incredible results. Especially in trimming Type 9's down in size while still keeping the menu. I was able to reduce the new verision of Peter Pan from 7.6 gigs to 5.325 gigs before removing any sound tracks and I kept the menu and extras.

Remake has changed that, now on most movies but not all if I can't get the file size down under 7 gigs then I may not keep the menus (except for those movies purchased by my wife).

Sometimes, as in the case of Peter Pan, the new version, the extras are as entertaining as the movie, far too large for one disc, so I split them up into 2, one for movie, one for extras, using the menu for each in recode, and just substituting a pic if you try to go where there's nothing (of course now u can use remake to eliminate all links, and retain a working menu). So basically what I've done is create my own special collector's edition 2-disc movie set, with little or no compression on either, thus maintaining optimum quality on all.

When I got the Peter Pan down to 5.325 gigs I was able to keep the menu and scenes. I only gave up the special features but considering there were still sound tracks that I could have removed I'm certain that I could have kept those too. The file was so small I used DVDcopy2 to finalize.
