Here's my two cents for people new to the ps2 backup scene.. Magic swap works great..but it can be a real pain in the ass..especially if you want to use a gameshark 2 V3/V4 for your cheats. because of all the swapping of discs..Get a mod chip..Matrix infinity seems to be the best..and you can get it installed very cheap by someone like team modders. or do it yourself..it only costs a little more than getting the SM discs and the fliplid and it'll save you time and frustration. Get a Modchip..there, i'm done.

Ok this what im going to do, Im going to order the fliptop & Swap magic disk 3.6 or 3.8 . now I looked on the back of my ps2 and this is what it reads.
Model # Scph-39001
Serial# u7405483
date code 2c
NTSC u/c
from what I have looked up on afterdawn {I THINK} it's a V7 ? Am I right?
And as for as burning my ps2 games im going with TDK -dvds 8x or 16x
and will burn them at 4x to 8x, As I have read that most people have a lot of success with these settings.
and now for the hard part. Once I get everything and get it all set up
I HOPE, that I don't have to mess with the laser. Cause I have Read that SOME people have to adjust there laser in order for the backups to play. now this is what I don't get IF your ps2 plays the original Dvd {Cds} ect. WHY would you have to mess with the laser?? can someone answer this for me PLEASE.
thank you.
P.S. to EVERYONE out there helping people like me and the rest of us.
thank god for you guys & gals taking the time to share you knowlodge with the rest of us. thank you SO much.
Knowledge is power & power will make us all succeed.
If @ first you don't succeed TRY AGAIN!!

sometimes if you burn with bad media, your laser gets stressed out with all of the work is has to do just to try and read it.... to avoid this always stick with Tayio Yudens or Verbatim... burn at half the rated speed of your disk or (for me) at 4X, then you should be fine.
you only adjust the laser if you need to, you can only find out if you need to by burning a game or two... but you shouldn't have to.
If the burn doesn't work it is most likely your burn settings/ media, so try that first....
hope this helps

ok
Sweet thanks for the info :)
Now I was wondering if a Western Digital 120GB USB Drive would work For
my ps2? I found one for about $130.00. I know I need a program called
USBextreme. But I was wondering if the size of the drive would have a affect on my ps2 as a 120Gb INTERNAL would? And Is it true that on internal drives you can't go any larger that 120gb? Does this hold true for External drives as well? or can you use any size external usb drive you want?
Thanks to all in advance.
P.S. I know a 16MB buffer is better! BUT would a 8MB buffer work to?

You can not use DVD-RW, your ps2 wont read them.
You can only use DVD-R, DVD+R
DVD-R has better compatability with ps2 versions,
So use DVD-R, just in case your ps2 dusnt read DVD+R

bigwill68, edit your sig to conform to forum specs ASAP.
4. If you want to use both text and image in your signature the image should not be more than 500 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall, and you can use up to three lines of text.

I dont know what to say man, with that info i cant suggest much. Only reasonable deduction is that your new comp is the prob.
@UltimateX
God of War and GT4 are DVD9, so you need some dual layer media if you want to play those. Xenogears is a ps1 game, so if ou meant Xenosaga you need to specify which one. I say this because Xenosaga episode I is a DVD9 aswell.
