QMZ - Thanks for the quick reply - I'm not sue about Toast - it seems as if people out there really like the other ones I mentioned - maybe because the are newer versions (?) and people are putting them to the test - I'll definitely keep Toast in mind - Thanks again!!

WOW! Great thread!! I am not sure if my question has already been answered in previous comments, but I hope someone can help me.....
I am using MTR to rip and Popcorn to compress/burn. I would like to know if there is a way to rip scenes from multiple DVDs and burn into one DVD. You know kind of like a "Best Of" DVD?

you may be able to do that with toast or idvd / imovie combination.
would prefer the latter..

I downloaded the cinematize demo and extracted scenes from three different dvds. Then using iMovie was able to merge into one and burn using iDVD. So I went and purchased the full version of Cinematize. Thx for your help

when using MTR what exactly is DISC RCE? What does it mean when it is "detected"?
and what is it when you have bad VOB sectors? I cant find help on whether to delete or pad the sectors?

OK... here goes. I bought a DVD from the UK (a DVD that does'not exist in Canada or the
US, those stupide zones from hell!) and am now trying to copy it on a new DVD that I could
watch on my TV. Now, I was able to rip the thig using MTR. I'm now using Handbrake to
put it on my iPod (so if nothing works, I'll watch it from there or plug my iPod on the TV
and stuff). I was also able to copy the complete DVD using DVD2OneX and LiquidCD on a
DVD that works very well (like any other DVD I own) with DVDplayer (the mac app, I can't
remember the english name for it).
The problem is that, that same DVD still doesn't work in my DVD player in the living
room... Could it be as simple a problem as the screen format (seing that it works fine on
my iBook). And if so, is there a way I could resolve that problem (passing through
Handbrake and converting back to VIDEO_TS for example)? Or Could it be something else?
Could a my MP4 file be passed through DVD2One and brun as VIDEO_TS?
Any suggestions?

[edit : tried it with DVDImager and it did the same thing, works fine on the iBook but on
my DVD player in the living room]

depends on what format or just how you burned it to the dvd. also what brand of dvd that is.

i just rented "shopgirl" and it appears to be dvd protected. i dropped it into mac the ripper, it got all the way to the end and said it has bad sectors. i then tried to compress it with dvd2onex2. that also go to the end and had an error message pop up. i've searched around and found some newer rip/compress/buring programs that are suppose to bypass but there all for pc. i was wondering if anyone had encountered a problem like this or new or newer mac software?

As a talent agent, I have actors' demo reels typically in unlocked DVD format. The reels usually run less than 5 minutes each. I often need to convert these reels into QuickTime movies, but I'm not a geek. From all I've seen here, there just isn't a simple way to do this...or is there? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks! Cheers,

Hi folks... I have used MTR, the DVD didn't need to be compressed. Then I used Imager. I have the .img file, which I burned to DVD. It will play on my MAC only (in a very weird way). But WILL not work on a standard player or any other dvd playing device for that matter. What am I doing wrong!
In order for the dvd to play on mac,I have to click on the DVD, then it OPENS (doesn't play, just opens) then I have to click on the file and it mounts a file on my desktop. THEN I can open the dvd player and it will play the movie.
No other device even recognizes it. Am I doing something wrong?

you made an image of it and burned it onto the dvd. that's why you're having to open the other file.
what program did you use for burning?
wha OS are you on?
if tiger, i believe you should be able to burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder into UDF format. don't quote me on that. without making the image of it.
also, what brand of media are you using?

I used Imager to make the image and burned it, like was posted earlier in the thread. I am using Tiger ( I believe..I get them mixed up panther/tiger?) Tiger, with the dashboard, right? OS X, V 10.4. Not sure of the Media, as I am not home.. DVD R, but can't remember the brand.
I tried to burn the video_ts file, I think and I don't think it worked. (But I've tried so manythings, I could be wrong about that.

You burned the image as data and that is why it does not work. You have to burn the image to a disc. To do this open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities), select the image on the left window and click on the burn button at the top.

Can rip, extract and burn fine. Want to then edit by dubbing to my JVC 3-in-1 recorder. Usually have no trouble dubbing to recorder, say, extracted (bold)episodes(bold) from sitcom/drama series. A very few movies also will dub, but most often the recorder gives me the message, Cannot Dub This Disc, as if the recorder has still detected that it was/is a copy protected disc. Same happens with such a disc if try extracting layers, or chapter chunks. Anyone know what gives - why ok with individual episodes (or joining two or more with DVD2One) but not with many movies????

Im using mac the ripper and then a trial version of DVD2OneX and then toast but it takes for like ever for it to burn. Yesterday I left it for like 5 hours and didn't progress didn't move at all. Does anyone know if fast dvd copy is better?

Fiendfest : the only time that has happened to me is when I had a faulty batch of DVDs and the burning just hubg. Burning a movie takes me about15-20 minutes, and writing lead-out another 60-90 seconds. What brand discs are you using and what burning speed - are you exceeding the capacity of the disc. Or have you gone for too high speed a disc and you computer drive don't like it.

16x and the discs are the office max one's. And some other brand named GQ"good quality". When I put the movie in then start mac the ripper it does that fine. Then when I try using Toast it always gets stuck about 1/16 of the way. Does anyone know if Fast Dvd Copy would work better than toast.

That's your problem. You are using crap media. Best Buy this week has the Verbatim 50 Pack for $14.99. Pick some of those up and try that.
Post what you get.

Ok I burned a dvd that doesn't have to be decrypted and when I played it on my dvd player it gets two little windows and one's the show and the other is the little menu. Thats not the way it's on the original.

Can anyone help me .I am new so be gentle youre getting my cherry here.
I have a MAC OSX G4 and am using MTR to rip and supposedly can then drag T_S folder into toast titanium 7 for burning using t-s to dvd.This is suppose to compress to disc size also if neccaserry but irelevant of T_S file size , even under 4gig {feature only option}
toast message cannot compresss T_S folder and hence poor me $120.0 bucks later
and still not able to make back up copies of my movies.....
HELP PLEASE
