Ok, what I'm understanding is that Toast 7 won't compress for you?
What movie is this?
Did you get any errors out of MTR?
You may need to re-rip the dvd.

When I went straight from MTR to burning with Toast, my mac DVD player didn't like the burnt disc, nor did my regular player. Think of it as being in it for the long term and a lot of satisfaction and fun....and sqeeze that piggy bank and get DVD2OneX - 2.0.5
Information about it is at http://www.dvd2one.com/. It will give you a trial version that will copy 30 minutes of a movie. Then burn that to a CD-RW so you can run through the process.
It gives you supreme control over the different sectiions in a disc (the feature and extras, or, with a mini-series or sit com episodes, you can actually pick out a specific episode, or rearrange the order (if you wanted!). And compression is far less of the sledgehammer approach of TOAST. I see Toast merely as a good, quick and easy burner aafteer DVD2One). Anyway, it's up to you, though it would be good if someone could work out what gives to cause your TOAST problem.

Has anybody tried BurnX - it's a freebie - I used it and can play the disc (Verbatim + R - could the disc type be the problem?) on my iMac but not on my DVD player which is about 5 years old - help, I need somebody, help, you know I need someone - I am a neophyte when it comes to burning -

THELOX714 Can you help me ???
I have tried ripping Ice Age 1 reduced to main feature only 3.2gig with MTR and still
get cannot compress T_S folder message from toast 7.
I am using video T_S to dvd tab option.
I know with some later movies the MTR has not overcome the latest RIP GUARD
protection which displays as bad sectors but version3.0 should fix which i accept but
this movie is at least 5 years old.I have tried other older kids DVDs aswell...

Hi Guys.
MTR and Ripping Region 1 DVDs in the UK
Is there something special required when using MTR to rip a Region 1 DVD to a Region 2 copy? I've tried almost every set of options without success - each time MTR finishes the task and then reports Bad Sectors. If I then open the DVD image on my hard disk with DVD Player the first 10 or so seconds play, the opening company logo and title etc, but then the player hangs.
I'm in the UK and my Mac Mini is set for Region 2 so do I need to set it to Region 1 to rip the disk. I'm loathe to do this because there are only 4 times this is possible.

I had this bad sector probelm along with several other problems but what i found out is that the bad scetor reading may be new rip protection "rip guard" MTR version 3.0
due soon is i have heard suppose to get around this..

Thanks for your reply Rooster.
It's obviously a minefield, ripping region protected disks on a region specific device - and all for the benefit of the public companies who are only concerned with the bottom line!
WW did send me a link which suggests I need to have a device set to the region of the original disk before ripping and I intend to try this and will come back with the outcome.

I'm in Uk also and bought a La Cie external drive which I've left at Region 1 as I would soon run out of lives with my Mac G5 drive.
I think MTR is able to rip off your Region 1 disc even though your Mac is set for Region 2 is because MTR doesn't need to have the disc play for a few seconds before you can rip it, as some others do. Your Mac must have given you the message about' wrong region' and halted. I think the bad sector problem is quite separate - had that a few times, but not since got
MTR 3. What disc were you ripping that you just recentlly got the bad sector problem on?

Belive me I have tried every combination of MTR but failed miserably every time.
The DVD I am attemptint rip is Dirty Filthy Love, and no, it's not a porn movie but about a guy with teretts syndrome (can't spell it!)
It's really good and was on Channel 4 a while ago but I didn't record it. Now I've purchased a copy from the only place it is available - the States - but am unable to watch it on my dvd player which is connected to my TV.

Toast won't copy it - it balks at encrypted movies - or I would have suggested sending me a copy so I could try it with my equipment and software - I've done so many Region 1s I've bought from the States so I can watch it on TV rather than on computer, it's routine - just use the La Cie rather than the Mac as the drive.
If you can't watch it, you've got nothing to lose. I'm in Scotland - do you want to lend it to me and let me have a go - can return it and hopefully a playable disc - I'll donate the disc to be burnt!
If so, let me know in this forum, and I'll private you with my address.

maybe someone can help me, im using mac the ripper and DVD2OneX, i extract the movie, i use DVD2OneX to compress it, and i burn the movie onto a blank dvd successfully, i can play it on my tv, but i can not play it on my mac, can someone tell me what the problem is? thanks

Well, open "dvd player" on your computer. Once it sees the disc, it should start playing. If it doesn't, all you need to do is hit "apple+o"">then select the VIDEO_TS folder on the dvd and then just hit play. That should work out fine.
If you want "DVD Player" to open up when you pop in the dvd, you can go into your system preferences, click "CDs & DVDs", it shows you options on what to do when discs are inserted. Video DVD should have the option of opening "DVD Player".

Has the MyDVD folder created by DVD2One got an AUDIO-TS folder (it will be blank/empty) in it? Toast 7 automatically adds it if you are using that to burn. Otherwise, try NEW FILE and name it AUDIO-TS and put inside the MyDVD folder and try with mac DVDplayer

you dont need to have the AUDIO_TS folder in order to play it in the mac dvd player. you can hit "apple+o", then just chose the VIDEO_TS folder. then just hit play.

when i try to rip with mtr it always tells me my IFO failed and i cant any further. if anyone has any pointers let me know please.

I been using MTR for a bit now and popcorn to compress and burn. It worked great till about a week ago when all of a sudden when ripping a dvd took about 20 min to rip now takes and hour and a half. And popcorn is doing the same thing it used to take about 45 to compress and bur and now it takes hours. I even rebooted my computer but it's still acting up. I also tried Dvdbackup and every time I try ripping a movie it tells me that theres all these files that had problems. The same thing with OSex. What can i do? Any thing that might help will be appreciated thanks

Sounds like you may need to new version of MTR if you are getting error messages from the files. Should be something like "Bad VOB". The only way to fix that is to upgrade to the new version of MTR. The only way to get that is to donate.

I don't think I need a MTR update. Popcorn does it too. Popcorn says it will take 4 min to burn the movie when it doesn't need to compress and it still takes like 3 hours any other guess

Yes, yo do. Your problem is that you came accross a DVD with a new form of protection that only the latest version of MTR can handle.
The output you get from the version of MTR you are using is so messed up that Popcorn goes haywire when you try to burn it.
