1) You're going to need your video files in MPEG4 file format for the PSP to read. With the proper instructions (the PSP manual isn't much help), you'll be ripping DVDs like a pro. Start by choosing the DVD you want to rip and putting it into your computer's DVD drive.
2) Download DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 at
www.dvddecrypter.com
3. Click the Mode tab, scroll down and select IFO.
4. Now click the Tools tab, select IFO Mode and make sure the option File Splitting is set to "None."
5. Click OK, under the Input window click the movie.
6. Now select the Stream Processing tab, enable Stream Processing, and select your video.
7. You're now ready to start ripping. Click that big DVD disc to begin the processing of ripping the DVD into a file stored on your hard drive.
8. Now with the video file on your HD, you have a variety of programs at your disposal which will help you convert the file into proper formatting for PSP viewing. Download (3GP Converter at www.xilisoft.com/video-converter.html, (iPSP)at www.kaisakura.com/iPSP/, or the new PSP Video 9 at www.pspvideo9.com will yield programs you can use to convert that ripped video file.
9. For Mac users, give iPSP a shot. And for PC users not comfortable with talk of bitrates and encoding will enjoy PSP Video 9's user-friendly interface.
10. Now connect your PSP using a USB 2.0 cable and click the "USB Connectivity" option in the PSP's main menu. This will allow you to browse the Memory Stick Duo inserted into your PSP.
11. Be careful where you place the video file on the Memory Stick. Unlike music and picture files, your video files need to be placed outside of the "PSP" folder. Create a folder called "MP_ROOT" and inside that folder create another folder named "100MNV01." That is the folder you need to copy your encoded video files to.
12. Be careful how your video files have been named. Programs like iPSP will properly name your video files automatically. Naming your MP4 files "24_Season_3.MP4" won't work. The files need to be named like this: "M4V00000.MP4"; you can change the numbers "00000" to fit your preference (like "M4V00027.MP4").
13. You're done! If you get stuck on any of the above steps, scour internet message boards for help. Hundreds of philanthropic techies will be explaining the above steps on forums come March 24, and thousands of others will be pleading for their help.

Have you tried this with movie files on your PC? I'm assuming it would be the same, but what about files like OGG that have dual audio, or subtitles that have to be loaded seperately?
I ask because i have lots of anime that i would like to put onto a Memory Stick and most are dual audio(OGG) format, and some have subtitle files as well.

Well i tried out an episode i have on my HD, originally 210,720KB. When i converted it in PSP Video 9 at 320x240/29.97fps/768kbps Stereo/128kbps it brought it to 144,672KB. At that rate i can fit around 3.5 episodes on a 512KB stick....bleh. Gonna try it at a lower rate and see what comes from that.

Nice, i tried with 320x240/15fps/512kbps Stereo/96kbps and it brought the size to 98,282KB. 5 episodes per Memory Stick....not bad for a couple hours of entertainment. Now all that's left is to get two 512MB sticks :P

I used XMPEG to rip my DVD into a DIVX AVI file then just moved it over to the PSP using either PSPVideo9 or PSP Max Media Manager from Datel. Using DVD Decrypter (or DVD shrink) and moving all the DVD files to hard drive is a pain in the @$$. It's MUCH easier ripping it to DIVX (less HD space) and then transporting to PSP that way.

Oh and another thing...XMPEG lets you scroll through the DVD movie if you just want to rip certain clips from the film!!

That would be nice if you have to divide a DVD for two 512MB sticks. Oh also....has anyone had any luck finding a 1GB stick yet? I've looked everywhere and their either sold out or charging one sick amount for it. $250 for a 1GB stick?....no thanks. :(

I did two things...
First, I ripped a 90 minute movie using DVD Decrypter and PSP Video 9 at 320x240/29.97/512/64kbps and the entire movie came out around 440mb. Picture quality was good, but it appeared a bit stretched with black lines on both sides of the screen.
Then, I tried a different one, about 1hr 50 minutes using DVD Shrink first, then DvDx2.3 to output to an AVI file, and finally using PSPVideo 9 at 368x208/29.97/768/128kbps. This file also came out around 440mb in size, but is a widescreen movie so it only uses about half the height of the PSP...very small picture. Nice quality, but small.
I'm still experimenting with different resolutions / ripping methods to try and get movies to fit on a 512 mb stick, but I'd like to use the full PSP screen...does anyone know what the resolution of the actual screen is?

Does anyone know if the PSP is going to be like the PS2 in so far as a game for an American PS2 can't be played on an unchipped European PS2. Is the PSP going to follow the same protocol or will it be region free so to speak. Can anyone elaborate on this.

From what Sony said before launch the PSP is supposed to be region free. I don't know if they changed that since the release or not. But i did read somewhere that said you cannot play games on a PSP that is not from your country. I think the region was regarding the movies, and not games. But then again, i could be wrong.

Can a full-length, 2-hour movie fit in a 1 Gb Memory Stick Duo Pro? If not, how many minutes of a movie can fit in one? Also, do you guys know if Sony or any other company will be coming out with a bigger memory stick?

Depending on the type of compression and conversion you use for the video file depends on whether it can fit on a 1GB stick. But I believe it can if you compress it enough, but the quality will take a hit. And from what i've seen, Sony has released, or will soon a 4GB High Speed Memory Stick Pro Duo or i'm going crazy because I could have sworn i've seen it. But i know for sure they have a 2GB.

I tried using the video converter on a .AVI divx file and other types, but when I go to videos it says that its incompatible. What did I do wrong, how can i fix this?

the psp is region free for games only. movies have region protection. and you can reduce 1 hour of movie to only 100 mb. quality is fairly good. so a 512mb holds 5 hours of movie at low but good quality.

Does anyone know how i can transfer .rm files to my PSP?
I've tried to use the PSP Video 9, but it won't let me transfer .rm files, and i want to convert my South Park Episodes(which are .rm) into PSP format.
