It usually takes the length of the movie, but it depends on what setting you use.
I leave mine to encode overnight to get top quality.

Hey all, I was wondering if I am looking to get the white psp (japan only) I know it can't play UMD movies, but is there a region lock on all video files? Say if I were to transfer an mpeg or AVI to the memory card would it still play even thought there is that region lock? Thanks in advance guys!

I am running 3.40 OE and lately with the software that I have (xoom) to convert any sort of format movies into the PSP, the movie won't play. I see this is a long running thread, I've read that Xvid4psp is recommended but is there anything else that I am missing, should I decide to try that application? (for example on recovery mode, change something). Thanks.

Xoom is really old software, it came out first when the PSP was release, it infringed on copyright laws and was removed from the shelves.
It encodes to an old file header that Sony got rid of come 2.80.
Any movies encoded with this software are named M4Vxxxx.MP4 and should be placed in a folder called 100MNV01.
(X:)MP_ROOT/100MNV01/M4Vxxxx.MP4
Your best bet now is to use XVID4PSP or PSPvideo9.

What was the file extension before you converted?
You shouldnt have to rename the file yourself PSPvideo9 does it for you, and also what version of PSPvideo9 are you using?

I know your problem, when PSPvideo9 is finished dont rename the file, leave it as is and place it in the VIDEO folder at the root of your MS.
X:/VIDEO/Your movie.
The old version of PSPvideo9 requires you to place the movies in MP_ROOT/100ANV01 because of the stupid file header Sony put in place, this was lifted from firmware version 2.80.

Using that setting results in lower image quality.
AVC is better than SP.
If your using the old version of PSPVideo9, the finshed encodes do not go in the VIDEO folder and have restricted headers encoded to them.
MP_ROOT/100MNV01/M4Vxxxxx.MP4
MP_ROOT/101ANV01/MAQxxxxx.MP4

Hi Sudds,
Not quite sure if this thread is still active but hopefully I'll get a response nonetheless. My problem is I used PSP Video 9 2.25 and after i converted my video and transferred to my psp device whether via the 1-click "move to device" button or manually, it shows up on the psp as "Unsupported Data". At first I didn't rename the video. But after seeing how it wasn't working I renamed it along with the thumbnail accordingly to MAQxxxxx.mp4 and MAQxxxxx.thm and stored both in the 100ANV01 folder to no avail. I simply received the same result of "Unsupported Data". The video was encoded in MPEG-4 AVC. Also my firmware is 3.77. Any help would be sorely appreciated.

Hello mate, rename your movie to what ever you like and place it in the VIDEO folder which is located at the root of the MS.
