AT,if you do an internet search for modchips, you should get a plethora of hits.I bought my swap magic disk from a company in Austria and had it shipped to Japan. It took 6 days to get here and works great. You will find that your`e back ups you made are all fine.
The Swap Magic disk is probably the easiest method of playing back up games or imports, especially if you dont want to void the warranty or fiddle about with the guts of the machine.

Hi Cookieboy,
Can I download this "swap magic disk" from some where. At the end it would be a program which we can write in the format which works in PS2. Any leads towards that will be helpful.
Thanks,
Ajay

No,its a pressed disc and even if you downloaded the image it would not work,I have already tried this and it`s a no go.
Its much easier just to buy it and DIY.

@Ammar
It should work,I can play PAL games on my NTSC PS2 but because the PAL resolution is greater, the bottom of the screen is cut off.You can however, back up the game and patch it with a PAL to NTSC fix using a 56 Y axis offset for a fuller picture.

i want to know if there's a way to unpatch the iso file
i used PS2 PAL TO NTSC PATCHER WITH Y-FIX V1.06 BETA to patch the iso file and i found out the game has the NTSC 60Hz setting in game.
i can't seem to be able to find the backup file of my iso any suggestions?
the file name was cfn-pes5.iso
i tried looking for cfn-pes5.iso.bak and cfn-pes5.iso.elf can't seem to find it and i forgot where it was backed up.

Hello everyone,
I have a NTSC PS2 with Swap Magic 3.6. I tried to play Ace Combat Squad Leader and Budokai Tenkaichi (both PAL versions). I used the special boot function with the NTSC option, but the screen still flickers for some reason. Could it have something to do with my PS2 having the Hard Drive? It seems to work for everyone else.

For those who experience the same problem as me all you have to do is take off your PS2 hard drive for the NTSC option to work on PAL games... I know it sounds silly, but that is what was preventing me from playing PAL games in NTSC mode. I guess some how the Hard Drive reset the options of the Swap Magic disc when I booted up the game.

adam31: unfortunately Battlefront 2 does not have any options for adjusting the screen. If you use the adr_patcher linked to elsewhere in this forum, you can patch it with the PAL to NTSC ROUTINE (NO Y POS) patch, and the game is playable. But it looks like the right and bottom edges are cut off a bit.
I tried the ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix.exe patch, but it didn't work.
If anyone has been able to patch the PAL Battlefront 2 to NTSC properly, please let me know! I'm burning coasters like mad!

That game is a multi-elf game. When you patch it, only the beginning of the game will display correctly, then the rest of the game will be in PAL.
This converter will convert the signal for you throughout the game.
www.chipzone.com/shop/showdetl.cfm?DID=12&Product_ID=229
Or consider the dms3 chip. You can automatically convert the signal to NTSC and center the screen.
i guess am out of luck then because i just patched sonic gems collection PS2 PAL because i couldnt find the USA version and if u didnt know it has a collection of different games on it like
Sonic the Fighters for the sega saturn
Sonic CD for the sega cd
Sonic R for the sega saturn i think
Sonic Spinball for the sega genesis
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the sega genesis
Sonic The Hedgehog Triple Trouble for the game gear
Sonic Drift Racing 2 not sure what system
Tails? Skypatrol for the game gear
Tails Adventures for the game gear
the intro started clear and everything but when i selected a game
the screen was black and white and and the screen keep scrolling up so and guessing this is 1 of those multi-elf game nrk4594 was talkin bout, am guessing that had to do with the fact that the ps2 is probably emulating the game and since its the PAL ps2 version its emulating the PAL release of the sega genesis game. but if someone else can give me some other advise or if there is indeed away to patch the individual games i will greatly appriciate it.

I dont understand one thing do we need to have mod chip also if we convert PS2 DVD games from PAL to NTSC.
As instructions given in the start of this thread it says
1)Make an ISO file of the game
2)Patch the ISO file
3)Burn the patched ISO file
As I understand this should create the same PAL DVD to NTSC. Then Y do I need to have Mod chip

You need a modchip or swap magic disc to play any back up of a playstation (2) game on a PS(2) console.Patching the game from PAL to NTSC and then playing it on a non modded PS2 wont work.
PS2 V.12 Japan NTSC
Swap Magic 3.6
XBOX 360 Japan

Please let me know if I am wrong

If you try to play PAL games on a NTSC PS2 it wont work without it being modified, you will definately need to buy a mod chip if you want to play PAL games on a NTSC PS2.You need to patch the PAL game to NTSC as the PAL output signal is different to NTSC and will produce a black and white rolling picture which is illegible if you play a PAL game on a NTSC console unless you have a multisystem TV which will broadcast both signals. The bottom line is that you will have to mod your Playstation to play PAL games regardless whether you patch them or not. Some modchips dont require you to patch the ISO and you can boot it up automatically into NTSC from a PAL disc...

Just wondering, is there a way to figure out what to enter into the Y-Fix Offset on Pal2NTSC to make the game play as close to perfect aspossible?

In my experience a Y offset of 48 is as close to center as you will get but it will lop both a bit off the lower and top of the screen, using a screen adjuster in the options menu in some games perfects it a bit more.If you have trouble seeing the bottom of the screen for games such as Final Fantasy and the like, you could use an offset of 56 so you can see more of the vital statistics etc...and vice versa for the top using a 40.

I backed up a copy of Gran Turismo 4 and used a 48 Y offset. It has a screen adjuster in the menu options and although it`s not perfect it`s playable,I can see the speedo and gears etc but they are slightly cut off.
If I have a PAL game that needs to be patched,I use cheap shite media to test it out first and experiment a bit with the settings and then burn it to a Maxell or TDK for keeps...
What game are you trying to back up JR?
