It's been out for ages, all v4 has new is that it can upgrade to 3.80 M33 instead of 3.71 M33. 3.71 M33 is generally regarded as a better firmware than 3.80 M33, so i guess larry felt no need to alter the guide to use v4, as it takes very little time to go from 3.71 M33 to 3.80 M33 or 3.90 M33 if you really want to.
PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB

You should start your own thread and ask this. All it does is add more post for users to read which have nothing to do with the thread.

Yes all those folders are created when you format the memory Stick via PSP.

If I downloaded a couple of PSP games, where exactly should I put the .iso file in the memory stick for them to properly show up? I've tried putting them in the root of the memory stick in an ISO folder but no luck..
Also, I can only access my PSP using the AC power. If I put in the memory stick first and then the pandora battery, ONLY the recovery menu with X, square, and triangle show up. I can't even hold down L or R..

no leave your normal battery inside your psp, create the mem stick, turn off your psp (leave mem stick inside psp ), then plug in the datel tool battery, and follow the on screen directions to install desired psp firmware;)

no they dont go into the root, they go into a file on the root of the me stick called "ISO", format your me stick to have all the correct files generated
no change your battery back to normal you must power up psp with ac charger, go into the memstick and open the pandoras menu, then put in your battery and take out the charger, from there you can recover your
battery to normal state:)
questions, comments?
post back!!

Ok, I got the CFW installed now I just need to get the PSP iso's working.
EDIT: Got everything working! Thanks to this guide and for everyone who helped me.
One last problem: Everytime I start up my PSP with the stick and pandora battery, ONLY the recovery menu comes up with the x, circle and square options and I can't get out of it. The only way I can is if I put in my stick first, connect the AC power, turn on my PSP and then put the battery in and take out the AC power. I can only play one iso game per AC connection. If I quit, and go to the XMB interface and load up another game, it doesn't work so my PSP restarts back to the recovery menu and I have to do it all over again. Any thoughts??
EDIT2: Got that working as well. Memory stick was just missing a couple of files.

Interesting enough, it automatically downgraded to 1.50 and instantly drained my battery to 0% charge.. =(

*Question* is installing custom firmware for other people - i.e. friends - legal, if they wanted you to install a custom firmware for them?

its not illegal to have custom firmware or to put it on someone else's psp. what is illegal are emulators and iso's but you wont get caught

This is untrue depending where you live. Most countries (USA for sure) it is illegal to use any application that circumvents copy protection. In order to get custom firmware onto a PSP you need to use applications that circumvent the copy protection. Custom firmware as well circumvents the copy protection.

UK law is similar to USA when it comes to copy protection. As I said most countries have laws similar regarding copy protection.

if you own the psp you may do whatever you want with it, iso ARE NOT ILLEGAL you may play iso, and own isos as long as you have the original game on any format it was released in by the producers;) even GBA and NES games as well;)

If only that were true tripplite - it really does depend on what country you are in & what laws they follow.
In the US - Fair Use says you can but DMCA makes that null. So it's a bit of a double edged sword. The UK is very similar. DMCA

It is similar to DVD backups.
You have the right to make backups of your legally owned DVD's but in order to make backups you need a program that can rip the copy protection from the DVD which is illegal to use under DMCA law.
So in other words you can have copies of Wii/PSP/PS3/Xbox 360/NES/SNES but in order to play those backups you need some type of softmod/hardmod (CFW is a sofmod to the PSP) which circumvents the copy protection to play the backup. Which is illegal under DMCA law.

DMCA- thats....true.....they can hurt you though unless they bring up logs of you uploading them to servers with multiple IP downloads.....your right binike7....its a double egged sword...good thing they only go after up loaders right?.....
