OK, I may be doing something wrong, but as far as I know I've followed every step. I have a PSP Slim running OEM Firmware 3.72. I have the Magic Memory Stick part done. I bought the service battery tool that actually changes your battery into a tool battery and back. I did it, and when I put my "tool" battery in with the stick, the PSP comes on automatically. There is nothing on the screen though, and the memory card light never blinks or anything. I can't tell that it's doing anything, as all I see is a green power light. I've tried just hitting the X button to see if it will do anything, but it will not. I just can't seem to get it to do whatever it's supposed to do at this point. I'm wondering what I possibly did wrong. Thanks.

I just didn't want to actually buy a premade pandora battery where I can make my own. Can't charge it though so I might just have to buy a different battery, which is a pain. (>_<)

Good point. haha
And you can charge the Datel tool battery, right? Just wanna make sure before I buy one.
Also, what's the difference in normal and service modes?

Yes you can charge it. In fact once you get it you'll more then likely need to. Charge it with your psp.

Just a simple explanation. The service battery's sole purpose it to put the psp in service mode. This lets you install custom firmware on it.
It can not be used as a normal battery.
A normal battery is used for the regular psp stuff - like playing games, music etc. It will not put the psp in service mode.

Before my hardmod pandora battery failed on me, I could play games just fine using a UMD like Daxter so I really don't see a difference in service and normal but I'm probably going to buy one either way.
And how exactly can I screw up my battery so I can know to NOT do it? Backing up the eeprom battery and whatnot? I just want to take all safety precautions to prevent me from buy anymore PSP batteries.

Ok I have a psp slim. I installed 3.71 m33 cfw on it and all was well. I later reinserted the pandora battery and then pulled it back out and the psp refused to turn back on (power light for 30 secs and then it shuts back off). Now when I attempt to reinstall 3.71 m33 or original 3.71 the installer stops at "formatting flash1). Can anyone help me out here?
I left it on "formatting flash1" for 1hr and 15mins. Should it take longer than that?

If you shut the PSP off during the downgrade then you've bricked your PSP.
Make sure all the Files are in the memory stick. Try doing a logical format then put the files in again. Most slims put a file in the Memory stick when you do the PSP system format which will block the IPL thingy. It blocked mine :( but i fixed it :).

Well I don't have a psp so I am using win XP to format. I am using a memory card that was sucessful in the past and I also have another memory stick from a friend that has been successful in the past and both stop at "formatting flash1". I also have the "pandora GUI", I tried creating one with that program but have had no luck there either. I am gonna go back to step one again, and thx alot for the reply :)
This program should unbrick anything right?

Unbricking is a separate thing. Right now focus on downgrading your PSP.
If the flash1 nand partitioning on the PSP is destroyed, even the universal unbricker won't be able to save your PSP. There have been people who were faced with never ending BSODs due to the flash1 problem, and were unable to run the Universal Unbricker to fix their PSP, rendering their PSPs useless.

Yeah I went back to step one again. I am sure that I have it right because I used this guide to downgrade other psp's including my own. I think it is useless. I have a 3 year extended waranty though :). Will they give me problems when I try to return it? I have to send it in to sony.

Could I maybe use the nand dump from another slim (phisically) and come up with an unbrickable brick?(if that makes sense)

I have a silver psp with ofw 3.90, I received the datel tool battery today, and followed the guide in making the Magic MS, and everything. Popped the stick in the psp, then the battery, green light comes on, black screen, tried the other way, battery then psp, same thing. Tried remaking the memory stick numerous times, still the same, tried it on another stick same thing. Running Windows XP SP2, Sony 1Gb stick. Any other suggestions besides trying other sticks? I'm also gonna try a few more sticks, anyone have any recommendations? Sony or Sandisk?
