usb extreme is a waste of money. swap magic 3.6 is better though it can only handle 4 games per hdd so i doubt i will use it much for that. dms4 mod chips are the ultimate with toxic bios.

Also, modding your ps2 will drastically reduce the life of your laser. USB Extreme should not!
Im happy to get the odd game here or there to work, and buy the rest.... Some people want the world on a stick!!

USB EXTREME works with less then half of games so i will wait for newer versions of this program that will be more compatible before i buy it. i use swap magic 3.3 because it works as well as a modchip, is much easier to install, and does not burn the lasers out. SM 3.6 supports the use of a usb hdd but it can only handle 4 games on a hdd unless you keep connecting the hdd to your computer and rename the images as you want to play them. i was excited about usb extreme at first but the program is overpriced and is not very compatible. it will have to be improved alot before i will buy it but i do very much want it to work at least as well as SM. look at this link to se what is better then usb extreme in the SM 3.6 http://www.swapmagic3.com/ AND http://www.swapmagic3.com/swapmagic36manual.pdf

ow i thought you ment usb extreme only handles 4 sorry :)
dbiscuit has a point doh, some people ...
and if you burn your games and use swap magic it can't do anything else then burn out your laser!
I'm happy with it, like db said
i have more then 10 games working now, sold my old games/backed up games and bought the new ones(that don't work) with the money so...

swap magic 3.6 costs less and is more compatible. can do 4 games at a time on a hdd connected to the usb port on the ps2 but you can still put as many games as you can fit on the hdd just would have to connect it to a pc to change the four around by re naming the images. uses smboot0.elf though smboot4.elf i think. it is in the other message i posted. i do not hear anything good about usb extreme here or on other sites. i do not worry about laser burn out because my version 7 has been on for weeks at a time.

have heard that the toxic patch and swap magic 3.6 will work but i need more confirmation. i do not see why it would not. i wonder if it will work with the patch on a usb hdd using swap magic 3.6 and the toxic patch. at least with the 3.6 version you can have two tries for the price of one. for version 1-11 there is a solderless dms4 modchip though i have heard that it is not too easy to install. i would like to start using a usb hdd because i think that will extend the life of my v7 ps2. i leave it on for weeks at a time which does not hurt the laser because that only comes on when it has too but the disc remains spinning which will one day wear out the traction motor. i believe they have a 50,000 hour service life like the built in fan. maybe by then there will be a good emulator and i can play the games on my pc which will hopefully need software and not any mods.

?Product Description Get ready for USB Extreme .. A whole new way to store and load your PS2 Games from any internal or external HDD. The USBExtreme , much like the HD Advance, allows you to load and store your PS2 games from any hard drive. What makes the USB Extreme Special? It's simple, the UBS Extreme is the first PS2 HDD storage software that actually allows you to use an external USB Hard drive and connect it to any PS2 via the Playstation 2 USB Port.
*****************************************************************
After it's done, the USB Extreme will allow you to store and load all of your games from your PS2 Hard Disk Drive.
*****************************************************************
What a shame!!!

I've created a compatability page for USBeXtreme on my site :)
Feel free to use it, and add to it with games you've got working.

hard drive compatability shouldnt even be an issue if your using a USB HD enclosure should it?
have you tried formatting in windows as NTFS THEN formatting with the tools as per the instructions?
have you tried both USB ports?

yes tried both ports...tried both win en dos installer! It only says that i have to insert usb device. Only when i get out the usb from the playstation and put it in again sometimes usbextreme hangs.
ps: one small thing... I did quick format (when formatting HD with windows) every time, but I dont think this is a problem! I have also seen that USBextreme clients make FAT32 whatever i do.

you say you dont have a case for your usb harddrive ,,,,
are you providing external power for the drive while its plugged into the ps2 ??
Xafier Well Done for creating a compatability page !
Thats the best idea yet , But how about including the games i wrote about in this thread , one page back :)

The hard drive i'm using is a external LACIE , 160 GB, usb 2.0, 7200 rpm, 2m buffer! probably the case is only from LACIE and the harddrive inside is a Maxtor. It uses external power!

Crumbs: I'm still working on getting the PHP right before I start searching the net and threads for games people have and haven't got working :) but I'll add them soon...
e-unit: have you tried it on another playstation? perhaps there's a problem with your PS2's USB ports.. or perhaps your usbextreme dvd!

No i didn't but I know eyetoy works(so usb works)! maybe this week i'll try it on a other ps2. LIke you say i hope the problem goes with the usb-extreme disc. Btw how can u make the drive NTFS with uxbextreme client? If I reformat HD it becomes a FAT32!
And another thing, if u dont install any game on the HD what does usbextreme say? NO GAMES FOUND or INSERT A USB DEVICE?
