yeah, you've obviously not removed it from the ul.cfg file... if you run the windows client it should say that the game has been deleted and ask if you want to delete the game from the list... just click OK

or you could just open the file in a hex editor and remove it yourself manually, but then your more likely to mess up your entire config file

Visit my PS2 section on my site for info on USBeXtreme, including compatability list:

SO I read this forum when I was having problems having the ps2 recognize(sp?) the hard drive. I noticed that other people were having this problem too. Well today I got a new Western Digital 120gb hard drive and this seemed to fix my problem. So the people whos harddrive that they couldnt read it was the actual hard drive not the ps2. Its just some hard drives that dont work :(. Oh and the hard drive i had was a samsung 120gb external for anyone whos looking to buy hds for their ps2s avoid that one.

well as far as i know. i have a western digital 200gb cased hdd (so you cant change the hdd inside (just like the lacie) and it didnt work either... so its only compatible with a normal hdd and build that in a empty casing... personal i think those pre fabricated casings have some diffrent drivers on a pc they can install that w/o probs but on a ps2 they need to use the drivers that are on the extremeusb cd.

I bought a third party case but got an 80GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 and put it in. On my PC the system recognises it as a Maxtor disk and not as an ICYBOX which is the case.

I have freecom and lacie drives and some of them come up as freecom or lacie and others come up as Samsung or Hitachi. I think the USBExtreme developers have worked on a Maxtor and a Maxtor is what will guarantee connectivity.

I formatted it as NTFS and then marked it with the ul_format utility in a dos box but used the windows client gui to install games. I dont think the ul_format utility actually makes it a FAT32 drive, I just think Windows thinks it is even tho it partitions the DVDs into 1024mb files when uploading to the disk.

Load times may be slow but its quicker than sticking straws in my hinges and ducking in case a 5400rpm disk comes flying at my head!

To speed up transfer time when uploading games if using XP go to the properties of your external disk in Device Manager and click on the Policies tab, select 'optimise for performance' and files copy four or five times faster.

I only got this to work on Saturday and have only tried three games
Lego Star Wars (NTSC) - Black and White (my TV is PAL)
Room Zoom - works
and a third which I cant remember, will try more tonight and come back and post list.

hey peeps.

thinking about the amount of money and time i've spent getting this usbextreme thing and the peripherals like external hardrive, etc... i really don't think it's all that worthit. i guess it's good for the hardcore gamer who wants to play stuff, which doesn't or hasn't come out in pal countries yet.

but hey... since i have it, no point complaining. guess i should just make the best of it. i'm glad there's others out there who use it. at least now, i won't be so frustrated with this stuff.

i'm really disappointed that some games don't work and secondly, work only as black and white or take their sweet time loading. ah well... did anyone actually find out how to convert a ntsc game into pal so you could play it in colour? does the swap magic thing not do anything to change this? what about burning a game to a dvd and using the swap magic method? i hear it lessens the life of the laser though. i'm not too sure if this method would work though.

my tekken 5 game works ok. is it just me or do you guys get a strange mini-game right at the start? kind of reminds me of star wars with the ships flying in space, shooting each other and it says "press start" which then loads up the opening movie to tekken 5. weird that. anyways, the the 3d devil within game doesn't work. the screen just goes blank. does anyone else have that problem?

say, xafier, nice site. really useful!
i saw tekken 5 on that list as working fine. how did you get a working (dvd?) copy of it (i assume ntsc format aswell) without black and white screen?

also, i noticed you got gran turismo 4 working with some sort of patch supporting it. maybe you could put up a links section on your site (unless i missed it) with the patch links or other programs like daemon tools, alchohol 120%, etc. just a suggestion. oh, and where did you get the patch from? :D

oh yeah, speaking of hardrive file systems... i found out the long way the ps2 wasn't compatible with ntsf format but by partitioning the hardrive into fat32, it doesn't use all the hardrive space, which is a big shame, considering i'm only using a miniscule amount to the total, which is 200gb (seagate. model: ST3200822A)
what do you suggest i do? partition the other space as another fat32 and create another drive? perhaps there's a simple solution to this but i don't know it. so it'll be great if you could help me on that too.

ho, ho, so many questions i have. i'm really regretting that i bought usbextreme now. feel conned.

many thanks.

reply to shizznah:

I use NTSC2PAL to convert NTSC games into PAL... all my NTSC games worked, but GTA: San Andreas only works Black and White, after converting to PAL it freezes when loading...

DOWNLOAD: http://tinyurl.com/bg8an

I have a 160Gb seagate with 2 partitions: one with usbextreme format and the other in NTFS for my backups, and they both work fine...

...and my Tekken5 doesn´t work too :(

Look guys, this is the longest thread I have ever seen on this topic---I know you all are talking USBEX, but I just wanted to share that I am using Windows to load my ISO's to my hard drive directly...with a 100% success rate after 15 games. I use a rediculously simple program called HD_dumb that recognizes a PS2 formatted hard drive and loads the ISO's. Hell it loads with all three of the HD programs Ive tried and might help you guys out somehow! Website below. http://hdldump.ps2-scene.org/

you probably already know this though, right?

I have a QUESTION!! I have a PS2 (SLIM).I just got the maxtor 80GB with a enclosure. And i just orderd a USBExtreme. If you have a SLIM PS2 is that all you need(PS2, HDD, Enclosure, and the USBEXTREME)? Or do you need the mod and Magic Switch(Ghost Switch)?

Ok. I have a 160 external Western Digital Hard-Drive and I tried to load up some games and for some reason they don't boot up. I tried to boot up the ones that are compatable, but nada.

It recognizes the drive and the game on USB Extreme, but when I start the game. Black screen all the way.

Just an update for you guys. I got my USBEXTREME about 1 week ago. Made copy for 8 US games, all working. Including GT4, Dynasty worrior, FF X.
And also made copies of 6 Jap games, all fine, with sounds and colours. I guess the black and white issus could be caused by the combatiability of your TV set. And I'm guessing mine is universal TV. All videos are chopy, I guess there is no work around for this.
Hope this infomation helps.

great man...... i got my usb extreme disc but no PS@ lol.. i'll be getting one soon.

to ANYONE, would it help speeds or videos run smoother if you took out the dummy files so that A game would be smaller, and easier for the data to be transferred?

greasy, what make is your universal t.v and where did you get it from? cause i asked the numpties at currys if they sold any universal t.vs, which support both PAL and NTSC and they weren't sure. had to ask a supervisor, who just said a straight NO even though i heard that the uk was now doing universal t.vs. maybe i shouldn't have asked currys. they don't know didley squat.

andre, you don't need the mod/ghost/switch chip thingy.

Ok first of all, everbody who says that their games are in black and white. All you need to do is purchase a new RGB-SCART cabel for $10 TOPS! Make sure it has all 21 little pins then you can enjoy your games in color even imported/backup. You should format your external HDD in NTFS then take away the partition, then put it back again but choose to not format then choose format in the official USB Extreme software. This is the safe proof way of doing it. There are ofcourse faster and easier ways to handle it. Now to my compatibility list.

Ace Combat 5 Squadron Leader - PAL - Doesn't work
Armored Core Silent Line - PAL - Works
Burnout 3 Take down - PAL - Doesn't work
Crash Bandicoot The Wrath Of Cortex - PAL - Works
Crash Bandicoot Twinsanity - PAL - Doesn't work
Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart - PAL - Doesn't work
Driver 3 (Driv3r) - PAL - Works (but as mentioned before can get stuck to think for a few seconds but WILL continue to play)
Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec - PAL - Works
Gran Turismo 4 - PAL - Doesn't work
Grand Theft Auto 3 - PAL - Works
Grand Theft Auto 3 Vice City - PAL - Works
Grand Theft Auto 3 San Andreas - PAL - Works
Mafia - PAL - Doesn't work
Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons Of Liberty - PAL - Doesn't work
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater - PAL - Works
NHL 2002 - PAL - Works
Resident Evil Code Veronica X - PAL - Doesn't work
Resident Evil Dead Aim - NTSC - Works
Resident Evil Outbreak - NTSC - Doesn't work
Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 - NTSC - Doesn't work
The Mercenaries - PAL - Works

BTW: I use a 80GB Hitachi Deaskstar 7200RPM 8MB Cache in a Q-Tec 3,5" HDD external case USB 2.0.

P.S.

Does ANYBODY now where you can download patches / game fixes for the not working titles or must we wait for the new version of USB Extreme 1.1? Many thanks for an answer and I hope this list is of use to you guys ;)

Yeah I think so, I'm living in Sweden but I'm from the U.S.A. Anyway I'm about to be testing some more NTSC games in the future... I'll be sure to add them here. I tested FlatOut NTSC the other day (one of my favourite PC games) didn't work :( By tuesday I'll known if Socom 2 U.S. Navy Seals NTSC works and Resident Evil Survivor 2 Code Vernica X NTSC.
