It means the official release of PS2 Exploit Utility has been released. The beta was just supposed to stay until the official release came out.
As we speak, I'm checking to see if that is happening to me, but it's not. Odd, and the official release is not even out. Try using Independance Compiler 4.1. Here's what you have to do in that old version:
Title.DB: nothing
Loader: Use the LaunchELF provided with the compiler or any other LaunchELF, just remember to select "Other" as the launcher, and locate your other version's ELF
Files: same as with PS2 Exploit Utility
IP Options: same as with PS2 Exploit Utility
Region: same as with PS2 Exploit Utility, with the exception that NTSC J(Japanese) consoles are not supported in Independance compiler 4.1
Extras: Keep the dummy file the way it is, but you can't assign buttons in the utility like PS2 Exploit Utility
Create Exploit: Select "CD Image (bin/cue)", and set "Installer Only?" to "No". This is a critical step! If you select "Yes", you won't be able to constantly use your disc, and it will become wasted.
After that, follow the normal directions.
My console collection: Version 14A PlayStation 2(chipped), Version 7 PlayStation 2, PlayStation(both models), Wii, Gamecube, N64, Super NES(original from US and Japan and Mini), NES(front and top loader)Model 1 & 2 Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Atari 2600, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Master System(Model 1 and 2), Atari Flashback 1 & 2, FC Twin(2 in 1 NES/Super NES clone), GN Twin(2 in 1 NES/Genesis clone), Atari 7800, Intellivision II, TurboGrafx 16, GameBoy Color

This guide was intended for slims, but you can just follow this method for fats:
There are 3 methods for fats related to this guide: 2 CD methods and 1 USB Memory Stick method.
CD method 1:
Materials needed:
-Action Replay MAX
-MAX Media Creator
-Any PlayStation game(those with a black base on the disc)
-PS2 Exploit Utility or Independance Compiler 4.1
-1 blank CD-R
-Alcohol 120%
-WinRAR
-CD Loader ELF(link on guide for slims)
-Cog-Swap ELF(link on guide for slims)
-USB Memory Stick
1) Now that you have everything you need, un-rar or un-zip your exploit utility, either PS2 Exploit Utility or Independace Compiler 4.1, and start it up.
2a) Here's what you need to do if you're using PS2 Exploit Utility:
Title.DB: Pop your PlayStation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive, select the correct drive, and click "Get ID from CD". After that, click "Add to Title.DB".
Loader: Select uLaunchELF v3.61.
Files: Click "Browse for file" and locate cogswap.elf on your hard drive. Click it and select "Open". After that, click "Add".
IP Options: Select "Yes" or "No" depending on whether you will or will not use your PlayStation 2 on a network.
Region: Select according to this list
American/Canadian(NTSC U/C): NTSC(BADATA-SYSTEM)
European/Australian(PAL): PAL(BEDATA-SYSTEM)
Japanese/Asian(NTSC J): JAP(BIDATA-SYSTEM)
Extras: Keep the dummy file the way it is, and if you want, you can asign the button to load Cog-Swap in the utility.
Create Exploit: Select "CD/HD image (bin/cue)" in Output Format, then in Options for CD Image, select "Exploit Installer CD". When you're ready, click "Create Exploit!".
2b) For people running Independance Compiler 4.1:
Title.DB: Pop your PlayStation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive, select the correct drive, and click "Get ID from CD". After that, click "Add to Title.DB".
Loader: Select LaunchELF 3.4.
Files: Click "Browse for file" and locate cogswap.elf on your hard drive. Click it and select "Open". After that, click "Add".
IP Options: Select "Yes" or "No" depending on whether you will or will not use your PlayStation 2 on a network.
Region: Select according to this list
American/Canadian(NTSC U/C): NTSC(BADATA-SYSTEM)
European/Australian(PAL): PAL(BEDATA-SYSTEM)
Unfortunately, IC 4.1 doesn't support Japanese consoles.
Extras: Keep the dummy file the way it is, but unlike PS2 Exploit Utility, you can't pre-configure your button settings.
Extras: Keep the dummy file the way it is, and if you want, you can asign the button to load Cog-Swap in the utility.
Create Exploit: Select "CD image (bin/cue)" in Output Format, then in Installer Only?, select "Yes". When you're ready, click "Create Exploit!".
3) Now it's time to burn the disc image. Put in your blank CD-R and start Alcohol 120%. Click "Image Burning Wizard". Locate your CD image, click it, then click "Next". You will now be at a window called: Prepare your CD/DVD recorder. Set the write speed to 4X, datatype to PlayStation 2, check "Rectify Sub-Channel Data", then click "Start".
4) You now have the Exploit CD ready. You now need a way to boot it. We'll use CD Loader. Install MAX Media Creator and start it up. Click "Add file", and locate CDLOADER.elf. Click "USB Drives" in "Output Media", select the location of your USB memory stick, and click "Create".
5) Go to your PlayStation 2 and eject the tray. Pop in Action Replay MAX and plug in your USB Memory Stick.
6) Once Action Replay MAX is loaded, look for MAX Media Player(called MAX Media or Media Player), select it and press X.
7) When MAX Media Player is loaded, there should be the message "Examining USB Pendrive". When it locates CDLOADER.ELF, scroll to "Play" and press X. CD Loader should load.
8) After CD Loader is loaded, your Action Replay MAX disc will stop. Now, use your slide card or flip lid and swap Action Replay MAX for your exploit installer disc. If you get a screen that becomes red with a pink border turning to yellow and disappearing, the boot is a sucess, but if the border stays pink, you did something wrong.
9) The installer should boot(remember to keep your memory card in slot 1). Once the installer crashes with a red border around the screen, the install is a success. Reset your system, eject the tray and insert the PlayStation game you decided to use as your trigger disc. At some point, your screen will flash white(meaning the buffer has just overflowed) and LaunchELF will load.
10) If you didn't pre-configure the button that will be used to launch Cog-Swap, or if you used Independance Compiler 4.1, press "Select", press O on the button you wish to use to boot Cog-Swap, press O on mc0(or mc1 if your Memory Card is in slot 2, which it shouldn't be), press O again on "BxDATA-SYSTEM", find COGSWAP.ELF, and select it with O. Return to the main menu, and press the button assigned to Cog-Swap.
11) Once Cog-Swap is loaded, here's how it works:
For CD backups: Swap LaunchELF for your backup game and press X.
For DVD backups: Eject your tray and put in a high TOC DVD-ROM
original game. When the disc stops spinning, press X. The disc
will spin again. When the screen has a purple disc with "Use
Cogswap" underneath, and the disc has stopped spinning, swap your
original with your backup, and press X.
CD Method 2:
Note: This method is similar to the one used with the slims.
Materials needed:
-Action Replay MAX

USB Memory Stick method:
Materials needed:
-Action Replay MAX
-MAX Media Creator
-Any PlayStation game(those with a black base on the disc)
-PS2 Exploit Utility or Independance Compiler 4.1
-Alcohol 120%
-WinRAR

Create Exploit: Select "Memory Card Format (XPS)" in Output Format.

Extras: Keep the dummy file the way it is, and if you want, you can asign the button to load Cog-Swap in the utility.
Create Exploit: Select "Memory Card (XPS)" in Output Format. When you're ready, click "Create Exploit!".
3) This is a save that will be uncrushed using MAX Memory. Since MAX Memory doesn't understand XPS saves, it needs to be reformated. This is where PS2 Save Builder comes in. Open it up, open the exploit save(should be IsCentral.xps). Once it's open, click File, Save As. Change Save as type: to AR MAX V3(*.max).
4) You now have your save ready. Now, it need to be put on your USB Memory Stick. Plug it in one of your computer's USB ports. Locate "IsCentral.max", right click, copy. Browse to your USB memory stick, and paste the file there.
5) Take out your Memory Stick and go to your PlayStation 2. Eject the tray. Pop in Action Replay MAX and plug in your USB Memory Stick.
6) Once Action Replay MAX is loaded, look for MAX Memory, select it and press X.
7) When MAX Memory is loaded, go to "My devices", select your Memory Card, and delete "Your System Configuration". When that's done, go back and select your memory stick. Select the USB icon and uncrush it to your Memory Card. Once that's done, your exploit is installed.
8) Reset your system. Eject the tray and put in your PlayStation trigger disc. At some point, your screen will flash white(meaning the buffer has just overflowed) and LaunchELF will load.
9) If you didn't pre-configure the button that will be used to launch Cog-Swap, or if you used Independance Compiler 4.1, press "Select", press O on the button you wish to use to boot Cog-Swap, press O on mc0(or mc1 if your Memory Card is in slot 2, which it shouldn't be), press O again on "BxDATA-SYSTEM", find COGSWAP.ELF, and select it with O. This should be good for all users of fats around here who were looking at this guide and wondering if it can be done on a fat PlayStation 2. I have your answer right here, and it's yes.

Find the USB Advance(free version of USBeXtreme) ELF, and follow this procedure:
In the "Files" tab of PS2 Exploit Utility or Independence Compiler 4.1, do the same thing as with the CD method, but instead of putting the Cog-Swap ELF, you put the USB Advance ELF.

Also i,m abit confused about part 7 (in your earlier posts) about uncrushing the file on the memory stick to Memory Card . Does that mean i will need a memory card too?.
Just i final question will i damage my ps2 if i regulary start and stop the drive whilst testing the straw mod. I just cant seem to get the straw to stay in the correct when i shut the lid.
Thanks for the quick reply

Yes, you can burn as many ELFs as you want on the disc.
Quote: Also i,m abit confused about part 7 (in your earlier posts) about uncrushing the file on the memory stick to Memory Card . Does that mean i will need a memory card too?.
That is so obvious. The answer is yes.

I don't think so. Remember to tape the straw down to the PlayStation 2 inside the lid. I had that problem too, and taping it down(using a longer piece of straw, too) helped. Once I did that, it never moved off the sensor below the hinge again.

Are you using a fat or a slim? If you're using a fat, you have to eject the tray using the Eject button. When the tray is out, take out the exploit disc, put in your DVD-ROM original and close the tray. When the tray is out, the blue will disappear, and so will the writing PS2 CD or something like that. When the TOC is refreshed, the thing where the blue was will turn yellow and say PS2 DVD or something similar underneath. Only then do you press X. The yellow will change to purple, and the writing will change to Use Cogswap. That is where you swap for your backup or import.
If you have a slim, you have to remove the piece you put over the front sensor of your console, remove the exploit disc, put in your DVD-ROM original, and put the piece you removed back over the front lid sensor. Remember, when you remove the piece from the sensor, the blue and the PS2 CD(or similar) writing will disappear. When you put the piece back over the sensor, the disc will spin. The place where the blue used to be will turn yellow after the TOC has been refreshed, and you will see the writing PS2 DVD or similar underneath. The disc will stop, but don't swap for your backup yet. Press X on your controller. The disc will start spinning again. When it stops, the yellow will turn purple and the writing will change to Use Cogswap. That is when you swap for your backup.
Hope this clears things up.

CD Loader is to be used off the stick. It is NOT a save. MAX Memory is if you have an Action Replay MAX(.max file) crushed save that you want to uncrush to your Memory Card, delete your saves or move your saves around. Read step 1 in Tdude's USB Memory Stick method, please.

Has anyone found a link to "PS2 Exploit Utility 5.0" If not, perhapse a new version? Also, does this all resualt in faster loads than the USB Extreme?
Also, how about game compatability, do games that don't work on USB extreme work with this?

I have the PS2 Exploit utility public beta setup saved
If someone needs that one, I can upload somewhere and present the link here
@ Ace, I uncrushed the usbadvn.elf following the memory card method
Launched cdloader, it worked.,
then when i change disc, it says invalid media.
I read in your topic that we need to show PSTwo that lid is always closed.
EDIT: just to try, I put the exploit disc made with Ace's method of usb memory stick in my PSTwo and started it
It loaded the ulaunch.elf program straight
Is it rite ?
I didnt use ar max or swap magic., just the launchelf disk
please let me know
I tried config by pressing SELECT and the button assigning screen comes up
just let me know if its the thing we try to get with cdloader ?
EDIT2 : When I load the usbadvn.elf, what I am supposed to see on screen If I haven't connected the usb hdd yet ?
I get a black screen, nothing on it.... is it waiting for me to connect the hdd ? or it didn't load up correctly ?
Please clarify

Hawkps2-You should not get a black screen when loading USB Advance. I tried it, although I don't have a USB hard drive, and it booted with a screen that says USB Advance Free Edition or something like that, then went to the game selection menu. I booted through a USB Memory Stick. Weird thing, USB Advance took the Memory Stick as a hard drive.
Mjfouline-I don't even know why you want to do that with your PlayStation Portable. But, I have absolutely no idea if you can use a PlayStation Portable as a USB Memory Stick. I think you can't. Try it, because I don't know.

Why It said Public Beta Expired:
It could not connect to the website to see if it has expired, so it just assumed that. If you dont let it connect (Ie, firewall exception), then you cant use it.
Why the site was down:
I'm sorry, but I was away for the last 2 weeks and got back just today and found the site had been hacked (with the phpbb error).
Everything is functioning as it was so the links will work again
Sorry for the downtime

Retired. Sorry guys, I have taken the step up to hardware booting and had a DMS4 SE Lite installed. This means that I will no longer post anymore software booting guides. Don't worry though. Even if I'm now in the hardware booting scene, I'll use my past knowledge to help out anyone and everyone who have some problems.
Now, I know this has nothing to do with this guide, but I just want to get my message out. I think that the soft-modding PlayStation 2 community here is losing someone who has really helped with this guide(more accessable alternative to Swap Magic) and my other guide(free alternative to Magic Switch/Magic Keys). Farewell, AfterDawn PlayStation 2 software-modding community.

Farewell man!
Ok, question.. Should I get a chip? I have been using this swap magic CD version for about 4 weeks everyday and I think my laser is getting weaker. I have no warranty on my ps2, slim console.
BTW, could I chip it on my own or it's hard , and will it help my laser and maybe make my ps2 last forever with 1st class dvd media only used on it?
PS2 SlimLine v14.
PS1 Backups without Breaker Pro .
ActionReplay Max Swap Magic Version .
^^ FTP'ed latest Code List from codejunkies.com to my PS2 memory card .

No idea, but the chip I have(the DMS4 SE Lite) is actually working very well. No more swapping, the chip sends the authentication code of whatever format disc you put in(for backups), and the region code check is cancelled(I think). Plus, if you have a PAL(or NTSC) backup or original, you can force NTSC or PAL video mode depending on your console's video standard(mine being NTSC) just like with Swap Magic, but the better part is that you can apply Y-fix, wheras you can't do that with Swap Magic. Just keep in mind that the Y-fix is experimental, and might not work with some games.
If you know how to solder, do it yourself, but if you don't, send it to a professional and get him/her to solder it. That's what I did. My cousin has a lot of experience with chips and PlayStation 2s, and I have no experience with soldering at all, he soldered it for me.
