If you want to put other ELFs, put all the ELFs you want in the "Files" tab of PS2 Exploit Utility or Independence Compiler 4.1 following the same procedure as with adding Cog-Swap.

I had that problem too. Do this: press Select, press O on the button assigned to the program, scroll to Cdfs:/ or something like that and press O, then press O on COGSWAP.ELF(that's if you're using the disc). You should be back at the main options menu, don't remember exactly considering that now I'm out of the PlayStation 2 soft-modding scene(I got a chip last week). Press O on OK and press the button you assigned to Cog-Swap.
Hope this fixes your problem.

Media seems to be the problem. People, please, before making a backup, use this thread so that you're not stuck with crap media or bad burns of the game you want to copy: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341 What kind of media are you using? What brand is it, is it DVD-R or DVD+R, what's the maximum burning speed of the disc(2X, 4X, etc.), what burner are you using, and is the latest firmware installed?

although this is a great tutorial i allways thought that the purpose of the MC Exploit was so that u didnt need to use the swap magic disk (or in your case CDloader). but according to this forum u still have to use it one way or another? am i wrong about this or is there a way i can use the MC Exploit without a slide card or fliptop or whatever??

No, stay away from Memorex. That's the worst media there is. Go for 8X Sony DVD-Rs with an octagonal piece of styrofoam on top of the spindle. That's the number 1 media there is(it's Taiyo Yuden). Burn at 4X.
No you can't. If you have a fat, you still need it because when you load Cog-Swap, you still have to take out your disc without your console knowing it. I had created this exploit as a workable Memory Card exploit for slims(works differently because the false entry in TITLE.DB attempts to create a buffer overflow, but fails to do so), but with two alternative methods, a CD method(my creation), and a USB Memory Stick method(proposed by Tdude). But then, someone asked about a fat and did a rewrite of this guide to make it usable for any PlayStation 2 Version 0 to 10(those with the buffer overflow glitch, Version 0, of which has never been mentioned here to my knowledge, is the first PlayStation 2 released only in Japan in 2000, don't know if the Memory Card Exploit works on the Version 0).

wow, incredible stuff Ace_2. This would make your exploit equal to the Independence Exploit for Fat PS2. With that, you could do ANYTHING with your PS2. Run Linux, use your FTP as a file server, xfer files between your PC & PS2. Possibilities are endles.
I'll try this later & drop some .ELF files from the old Fat PS2. If they work, that is....that's f***ing awesome!

Not possible with the Version 14 because you can't solder any of the two IDE hard drive add-ons(unless you can run Linux off a USB hard drive or USB memory stick if it's available in ELF form. It might be for sure you can FTP because there's already a Network Adapter in the system. If what you're saying is 100% true, what should happen to this thread?

Thanks for telling me, I didn't notice that(just remembered-hit back to edit the post, and I AGAIN forgot it would do a double post(it's happened-seriously)).
You mean the 75000 series? I have not seen an SCPH-70005 series anywhere.

This is a thread on Codebreaker.com forums site that talks about the new SCPH-75001 PS2 slims. They have anti-USB programming. Unless you have the correct mod & use an .ELF file, the USB port is blocked. Stupid @$$ Sony only allows licensed USB devices to be used. You can find my comments about this on the thread: http://forums.cmgsccc.com/showthread.php?t=6118

What do you mean by "licensed" USB devices? USB devices licensed by Sony to be used on the PlayStation 2?

yeah. $ony changed the USB driver in the firmware (according to Codebreaker), so any non-licensed USB devices don't work. If you don't know drivers (some ppl don't) it's a software program that tells the hardware how to "talk" to the USB device. Since $ony could decide which USB devices to support when they wrote new driver, they decided to exclude ALL DEVICES except a few. Like their keyboards & Logitech headset. All other devices....r f7cked!
My USB memory plugs that worked on v12 don't work on SCPH-70005.

Maybe this is a really stupid question, but how do I actually use the MC exploit?
I successfully created an exploit CD with IsCentral's PS2 Exploit Utility 5.0, burned it with Alcohol 120%, and loaded it using the Swap Magic 3.6 CD. It came up with a text-only loading screen, and if I read the blurry text correctly it installed the ELF's I had on the Exploit CD to my MC0. After it finished, it went to the main PS2 menu, then tried to load the Exploit CD. At this point I got the red "Insert Correct PS2 disc" screen. I removed the Exploit CD (after removing the little plasticy bit so that the disc would stop spinning), and it gave me the option to browse my MC. I did, and the System file was replaced by a cube with the IsCentral logo on it. At this point, I don't know what to do. How do I actually launch the ELFs which are apparently on my Memory Card?

Are you using a slim PlayStation 2? Remember this, if you're using a slim, you CANNOT choose to make the CD image and Installer Disc. It has to be a Live CD. If your image was an Installer Disc, you'll have to burn it again, but without the ELFs and you HAVE to select Live CD.

If I'm supposed to create a Live CD with no ELFs, what good does it do me? All I end up with is a CD with uELFLauncher, right? How is this an exploit?

Hey, listen, if you have your ELFs already on the Memory Card in BADATA-SYSTEM, you don't need to put them again on a disc. That's why I said not to put any ELFs on the disc(geez, do I have problems to explain what I say). You NEED a Live CD on the slim to make ELFs work(which you haven't specified yet-if you have a slim or fat PlayStation 2). Like I said, if your ELFs are on the Memory Card or a USB Memory Stick, you DON'T need your ELFs to be on a disc. Put the ELFs only if you use the CD method(like I used to do before I switched to hardware MODing). What method are you using?

So the Live CD activates the ELFs stored on the Memory Card? If that's how it works... ok, maybe I'm being really stupid here, but what's the point? I thought the exploit was so that you didn't have to do any disc swapping or anything, but you could simply activate programs off the MC. If I'm mistaken, what exactly is the advantage/use of this exploit?
