Okay, I will just buy AnyDVD since I cant get it to let me do a trial again.

Do I want AnyDVD or AnyDVD HD though? (I read the descriptions, but am not familiar with HD-DVD and BluRay, so I dont know if I actually need AnyDVD HD. It says AnyDVD HD has everything AnyDVD has but with the added features and is actually cheaper, which you'd think it would be more expensive, so should I just do that one?)

This site is awesome, thanks so much for everyones help!!

AnyDVD HD comes with same functionality as AnyDVD, but with additional features for full HD-DVD (High Definition DVD) and Blu-Ray support, including decryption of HD-DVD & Blu-Ray movie discs.

Allows you to watch movies over a digital display connection, without HDCP compliant graphics card and HDCP compliant display. No need to buy an expensive monitor. Sweet!

Playback your discs on your PC with PowerDVD Ultra, which otherwise do not run (titles released by Studio Canal, The Weinstein Company, Kinowelt, Optimum Releasing).

AnyDVD HD is the "must have" utility for the serious home theater enthusiast using a media center / home theater PC.

Another amazing feature of AnyDVD HD is "magic file replacement ?". Remaster any commercial movie disc using simple XML scripts. These scripts will "magically" replace the files on the physical disc. You can customize discs as you like without even making a copy to harddisk!

AnyDVD comes with a UDF 2.5 file ripper, no need to install 3rd party UDF 2.5 filesystem under Windows XP.

I would say future proof yourself and go for the HD version, afterall there are free updates for life.

I always back up my movies with RIFM 1-click mode then DVD Decrypter and then Shrink. Never problems, but on the rare occasion I ran into problems, I would use DVDFab then VOBblanker and then Shrink. All Freeware that I love!! Now as with many of you I am encountering issues with backing up my copy of Hairspray. RIFM continues to have issues using 1-click mode or wizard mode. DVDFab 3 (the old one, Im in the process of getting the new one) also will not read it. I no longer have AnyDVD and am skeptical of getting it, as it seems it may also have issues. So if anyone gets a copy which is viewable, using the above products (or otherwise) please let me know.

I appear to have been successful using the new DVDFab Platinum 4. I haven't checked it yet, but at least it read "successfully". I'm still at a loss as to why even the AnyDVD upgrade that supposedly included a fix for Hairspray will not work. For the most part, I have found AnyDVD to be the MOST reliable of all the options I've tried (DVDFab, VOB Blanker) so I'm disturbed I can't get it to work with this one.

it worked fine for me using clonedvd 2. Try not using the anydvd ripper and let anydvd run in the background while using clonedvd 2 to transcode doing the movie only. Some drives have a problem transcoding hard to do titles .Can you try transcoding with a different drive?

Yes, I tried with my normal "burn" drive as well as the normal "write" drive. I'll try the CloneDVD thing with AnyDVD just in the background. Thanks!

are the people that say it worked, did you actually play the disk? I thought I was successful, but when I play the disk, the audio is choppy and the video runs a bit fast at times.

Interesting (and unfortunate) observation. Mine has appeared to copy successfully as well ( using the CloneDVD method ) but I will do a QC check later this evening.

I agree with the AnyDVD/DVD Shrink problem. I said that it worked perfectly for me because I thought it had, that is until I started trying to watch it. Same problem with audio/video skipping. So I downloaded CloneDVD 2(again trial version). I ran AnyDVD in the background and ripped with CloneDVD 2 and I think it actually worked. I am at least half way through the movie and no problems yet. I will write with my final result.

From the sounds of things, it appears both AnyDVD + CloneDVD 2 may be needed to do Hairspray right. We've seen this in the past, AnyDVD works properly with Clone, but not with other programs. Reminds me of what I heard: They're made for each other. ;)

For those who haven't tried it, if AnyDVD isn't working with Shrink, Recode, or another transcoder, give CloneDVD 2 a try.

If you use AnyDVD ver. 6.2.0.1 in conjunction with your compression/burning software of choice, you should have no problems with this disc....

Thanks for showing us the copy protection scheme on the DVD. That one looks so bad, I'm surprised the original will play. From the info drifting in, only AnyDVD + CloneDVD 2 is doing the job right when it comes to viewing the finished backup. Did you use CloneDVD when you did your recording?

I've done some reading at CDF and it seems that if you can get a good rip using DVDFab HD Decrypter you can use Recode in lieu of DVD Shrink. Seems that DVD Shrink is the program being affected by the leftover bits. AnyDVD would/should work in the same manner.

I noticed no one mentioned the pricing and how Slysoft bundles the programs. If they did, forgive me for being repetitive. When you get the trial download it comes as AnyDVD HD Decrypter. AnyDVD HD has all the AnyDVD functions plus the Blu Ray HD DVD capabilities. You have to buy a key to prevent the program from dying after 21 days. You can either buy the AnyDVD for $49 and upgrade to HD for an additional $30 or just get the AnyDVD. You can't get AnyDVD HD without the base AnyDVD. The trial program with an AnyDVD key turns off the HD capability. The $30 upgrade keeps HD on. If you don't have Blu Ray or HD DVD, don't waste the $30. You should be able to upgrade as long as Slysoft doesn't change their pricing policies. Then there's that 20% discount for Thanksgiving; but there will probably be another for Christmas and ... ;)

I also used DVDFab HD Decrypter 4.0.1.2. Make sure PathPlayer is enabled. I had disabled it to back up Ratatouille. Once I enabled it again, Fab read the disc fine. Hope this helps.

Forgive me if this belongs in another thread, but that reminds me of a question I had when checking out the options in the new DVDFab....what IS Pathplayer and what would cause it to need to be enabled/disabled?
