You need to update the software. DVDFab Decrypter is now DVDFab HD Decrypter and the current version is 4.0.1.2. Did you try the RI4M in one click mode?

DVDFab Platinum and DVDFab HD Decrypter use the same software to decrypt and bypass copy protection. Platinum is the all-in-one program that does the whole backup task. DVDFab HD Decrypter is limited to decryption and ripping the files to the hard drive and it doesn't have the custom settings included in Platinum.

With RI4M the best bet is to use the one click mode. It includes everything in the wizard, but some of the automatic features make it preferable to wizard. In my estimation, the wizard shouldn't have been included. I recently did a movie that was successful in one click, retried it in wizard and it failed. Once I retried it in 1 click I got the same error I received in wizard mode. For whatever reason, I couldn't find where the error code was stored to clear it. Clearing the analysis files didn't seem to help. Also, if you can get a successful rip with movie only, that removes most, if not all of the copy protection. That goes for other programs besides RI4M.

I backed up Hairspray using Shrink with Any DVD 6.1.9.3 running and burned with DVD Decrypter. Strange, when I tried to use Any DVD to just rip the files it would not but when used in the background along with Shrink went through it without a problem.

For what it's worth, I was able to successfully rip the disc with DVDFab HD. I processed it through VOBB to omit the things I don't want and then I opened it with Shrink.
*EDIT* It was compressed (not much was needed. I think it was set at 93%), burned, and playback was successful.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

Here's a blurb from the info:
- Fix (DVD): CSS and APS problem with certain discs,
e.g. "Hairspray", US

Forgive me in advance if I'm just missing something in the posts but I've read and re-read all posts on this thread and still am unsure what I'm supposed to use to get Hairspray to work..... ?
I normally open my DVD with DVDFab HD Decrypter 4.0.1.2, click "start", then use DVDShrink to shrink it and burn it.
I cannot get DVDFab to read Hairspray, get the "error while reading" error. I already checked the disk and it is perfectly clean, no scratches.
I read the thread and tried using Ripit4me 1 click mode but Ripit4me crashed.
I saw the post by "Icexxxxx" where I believe he got it to finally work and says: "TY, guys i use DVDFab Platinum 4 as well but it didnt work for me. i use what u guys told me and thanks very much old DVDFab Decrypter.... " What exactly was it the guys told you Ice? People suggested a couple different things up to this posting, so I just wasnt sure what exactly worked for you with this movie. If it was the earlier version of "DVDFab3112", where can I find this older version (and out of curiosity, why does an older version work and the newer version doesnt?, just curious).
I have old versions DVDFab 3072 and DVDFab 3210, and the newest version which I listed as 4.0.1.2. I tried reinstalling the old version of 3072 and opening the DVD but got a "Crash Report" error. (no, I did not uninstall the newer version of 4012 before installing 3072).
This is taking me hours and I'm at a loss as how to get this crazy movie to work. HELP someone pleeease.

Hey guys, an earlier posting was absolutely correct. Download AnyDVD (trial version - 21 day trial) Run this program in the background and use DVD Shrink. It worked perfectly for me. I tried everything and this is the only thing that worked for me.

As binkie pointed out, Slysoft released a new version of AnyDVD yesterday. http://www.slysoft.com It would be the easiest method at this point. It specifically addressed the problem with Hairspray. Give the trial a whirl if you haven't used it before. If not familiar with AnyDVD, let it run in the background and open your DVD in Shrink.
I've been hearing about various degrees of success with DVDFab HD Decrypter. I'm wondering if there may be a difference between doing Movie Only and the Full DVD rip. A lot of copy protection is usually hidden in the extras.
Did you try RipIt4Me in 1 click with the movie only rip option selected? What version of RipIt4Me do you have?

just some input; i as well have tried ripit and dvdfab (various versions) with errors, different than the ones other people have posted. so i tried it in my other drive, and again a different set of errors. it seems there might be more than a software issue here. if you can get it to rip with fab then good for you :). however anydvd once again has worked flawlessly and anyone considering ripping this movie should just go ahead and use it.

yeah the new update for anydvd gets though the movie fine no problems.
so clonedvd 2 + anydvd in the in the background
i used dvdfab decrypter first and it ripped fine but the file wouldn't open in dvd shrink so i used VOB Blanker to clean the file and it cut the first chapter out so i canned it. came home tonight and anydvd updated to save the day lol

Ok, Ive been having all the same problems everyone else has so I finally went with using any dvd in the backround and running shrink and......IT WORKED!!!! YAY!!!! And now for the bad news, I tried playing it back and it's good for aout the 1st 3 chapters and then it constantly keeps cutting out sound and tweaking out. Nothing is wrong with the original, no scratches at all. Any suggestions? Ive been struggleing with this movie for FAR too long. All help is appriciated.

I tried several ways that failed. So I tried the anydvd and shrink. shrink said it was successful, but like the previous poster - audio is skipping. AND pressing root menu gets you to the toshiba boot screen and the system hangs - you have to power cycle it to reset it. and it's a regular dvd player - not a drive in a PC.

There are ways, but unfortunately we can't help you be a better pirate. Buy the program if it works for you, I think it's on sale ATM.

Hello all...
I just downloaded the new update for AnyDVD and I still get the "VOB1" error as soon as I click "Copy DVD" on the AnyDVD Ripper. Is there something else I might be missing here? Thanks so much!
