I used FMCB 1.4. It works great too.
I don't really know if there's much difference between each of them, but in the way they install the exploit in the memCard. Versions 1.2 and above don't require a format in the card (Though I had to format it anyway) and versions 1.0 and 1.1 do format the memcard prior to the installation.

Ah, BTW, I managed to get the Messiah-chipped PS2 booted from USB without a DVD in the drive. I had to perform the PSX-disk manoeuvre: Mantaining the power button pressed 5 seconds.

Ha, ha!

There is 1.4b and now 1.5 Beta .

They both install easier to the mc.

Yeah.
Once the exploit is installed on the MemCard you can boot directly from USB. You just have to copy a uLaunch.elf and rename it as /BOOT/BOOT.ELF into your USB device. You can also copy it (the uLaunch) directly into your memCard into a /BOOT/ folder too and rename it as BOOT.ELF, so you'll boot into a uLaunch every time you boot your PS2.

I've tested the exploit on a modded PS2 (Messiah) and on a "virgin" (non-modded) PS2. (Both of them FAT PS2)

he said it wont work with windows so i didnt buy it...but i wasnt sure if he really tried it on a pc yet...

how do PS2 to PS3 MC adapter differ from a Ps2 MC to USB adapter?

would they be working just the same as each other?

I wouldn't use that MC to USB connector when the uLaunch permits you to move your saved games from/to an USB storage device.

And I would NEVER use that adapter to load games, since the MC port is significantly slower than the standard USB port. Or that's what I think.

With the exploit in your memCard and a version of uLaunch on the memCard or in your favourite USB pen, you'll be able to run whatever you want via USB. So I don't see any advantage in using that MC to USB thing. :)

But if you manage to boot your PS2 on a uLaunch, you can copy whatever from/to your USB pen drive and from/to your MemCard with its file browser.

So you just have to copy all the ELFs from your PC to your USB stick and then copy them from your USB stick to your MemCard using uLaunch.

Hmmm... I've read something about it. There's people out there saying that infinity modded PS2 search into USB devices for a /BOOT/BOOT.ELF before scanning the DVD. But I can't assure you.

You may try it by plugging a USB stick with a /BOOT/BOOT.ELF

If it doesn't work, just install the exploit and have fun ;)

this is not good...

...i've done the exploit properly and it worked flawlessly on a fat ps2 with matrix infinity mod...

..but when i tried it on mine(which is a slim type), it just goes to the same old browser screen...

...is this becoz of my modchip(SUPER7)?

...i really need a quick reply since another friend of mine expects me to do the trick on his slim ps2 too...

Yes it could very well be the modchip(super7), not all work to install free_mcboot unless they are disabled.
So if you already have it installed to the mc and it's not working, you need to disable the chip.

Can't you just install fmcb to the memory cards using the FAT with the matrix.

smokyrain...

...i actually did the exploit on a fat with matrix mod and it worked, and booted on a ulaunch without using the ZZ boot disc anymore

...then after exploiting my MC on a FAT, i tried it on mine which is a slim type but it didnt work..and the browser screen is the only thing that show up.

...and i've already tried Super7 'SLEEP MODE' feature just by holding the power switch til the screen appears...but it still wont work...

and now im planning to desolder the modchip on my ps2, but im not gonna do it yet till i get no other choice...

..btw, my MC is already exploited, its just my slim ps2 that doesnt work with it...

Ok thats what I figured was your problem, but wasn't sure.

Yes I remember someone before had an E-17 Super 7, but I am not sure how to disable it either.

Did you use the 1.5 fmcb installer?

Mine works on both a FAT PS2(V5 and V7) and a V14 slim.

I myself only tried the 1.4 installer, having BOOT.ELF and DVDELF.bin file included.
http://my.afterdawn.com/smokyrain/blog_e...4/free_mcboot14

And as I say it works fine on all unmoddeded PS2 that I have.
