Smoky's post before my last one states "only DVD media."
I can verify that CD bases games will load with HDL. As for PSX, I haven't tried yet, but I'm assuming no.

i should have thought that because the patch makes the ps2 think its a dvd movie . the only way is to make the cd game into a dvd game.

This doesn't work, did you even try it yourself before posting.
If yes exactly how did you do it and with what type of PS2 setup do you have.

Yes, I did try BEFORE posting. Although I did find it DOES NOT work on EVERY game after I posted. (I appologize)
This is what I did.
PS2 V1, V4. (Flip Top) FMBC 1.5 ESR 8a ELF (Not ESR 9), Disc control set to ON.
Loaded MOVIE White Chicks, powered on PS2, FMCB Booted-disc stops spinning.
Switched disc to GTAVCS, loaded ESR DVD 8a Elf. Played game.
Same movie, same elf, game is GHLOR, played game.
Same Movie, same elf, game is GTAVC, and MGSSOL Did not play.
Have not yet tried this on slim or V10. Have not tested with ALL movies, just played around with a few, Some movies don't work, while others do
Also if you use a patched game in the beginning and switch, you can play SOME of your UNPATCHED games (I did try, it worked). Try it again with different movies and games

I'm all for the experimenting!
Here goes:
I have an unmodded ps2(v7), swap magic 3.6 cd, cd loader v7all and a memory card exploit disc for some time now.
I wanna try this because i read that it can boot dvd backups (I know, i know, you have to patch them, I read about that part too).
If i download the fmcb 1.0/1.1 and follow the instructions, I should be good to go right?

Cool ilcmdme - you will like it
You just need the fmcb 1.5 , uLe 4.16 elf or latest version and a usb drive.
Follow bootlegninja's tutorial
Also as his tutorial does not say, but make a folder on the usb drive called BOOT and copy the uLe 4.16 BOOT.ELF to the BOOT folder
That way it will copy the BOOT.ELF to mc.
Then of course once installed you need to configure uLaunch elf and save it.
Then you will be able to copy your ESR Beta 9b Elf to the mc and be able to launch it.

Do you get the ulaunch screen
From there SELECT "configure" by pressing 0 on the controller
From there you can make changes by highlighting R1 or X if you wish by scrolling down to it
Then Browse to the location of your ELF File you want to load (ESR beta r9 dvdv direct.elf) and press O, again. (Brings you back to Ulaunch)
Move the curser to ok.
Restart the PS2 with patched game backup in the drive.
Ulaunch screen will load. Press X or R1 on your controller depending upon where you selected the ELF file to load.
Play your game.
I personally also select "Startup Settings and change the 0 to X as I prefer using X as the main select button.
Its all explained in this uLe tutorial on how to configure and use uLaunch.
That should help you out.

i guess i did some things wrong then.
1) On my flash drive i have:
a)swapmagic folder with boot.elf renamed to swapmagic.elf
b)an esr beta r9ad folder with ESR beta r9a dvdv direct, ESR beta r9a dvdv direct off and ESR beta r9a mcard inside
c)a ule v4.16 folder filled with stuff including boot.elf and uncompressed boot.elf
2) how do u patch a game, i'm assuming u patch the iso, how and with what?
i'm back to trying again!
Bingo!
It's working i just put a boot(folder named BOOT) folder on the flash drive with boot.elf(from ule v4.12 folder) inside, reboot ps2, config ulaunch and saved settings, rqeboot ps2 with dvd movie hero(backup), when disc stopped spinning i removed it and put in GOW backup, launched ESR beta r9a dvdv direct.
My brother is playing it as i typed this!
Question, do i copy ESR beta r9a mcard to MC if i wanna boot without flash drive?

Ok thats great, but did you install the fmcb 1.5 or are you just loading uLe from USB flash drive.
Read this thread here for more about configuring Fmcb 1.5

Hi, i`ve been looking over at PS3hax.net....and got a snes emu + Sega emu all working good off of my USB stick on my PAL 60GB PS3 ( Using Swapmgic 3.8 Coder )
Now i was just googling around and stumble don this topic of `effectively not needing a trigger disc, swapmagic, or mod chip` ( ONCE THE FILES HAVE BEEN PUT IN THERE PROPER PLACES OFCOURSE )on mc0 etc, etc, etc )it seems like it all works well when done right, my question is will this BOOT FROM MemoryCard work from PS3 ??
It would be really good not to have to use swapmagic....
Thanks.

Thx, Smokyrain.
I am currently booting from my MC only, How?!
I simply copied the folders from my flash drive to my MC.
I tried launching a psx elf(which was made for the v9 ps2) on my v7 ps2 but it didn't work - no surprise there, but where can i get a psx elf that will launch psx backup on a v7 ps2 - i've searched everywhere. Saying that to say this it doesn't work.
What elf do i need to launch ps2 cd-based backups?

There is no way that I know of to play PS1 backups on a V7 unless you purchase Breaker Pro ($19)
There are of course lots of methods on youtube, that people say work but who knows.
As for CD based games, most can be converted to DVD and then patched with ESR.
There are a couple methods. This one that I used all the time and a newer one on psx scene.

Hey ilcmdme
I know people have installed fmcb on the memor32 cards and the Datel 64mb Memory plus cards.
As quoted from jimmikaelkael
"Free MC Boot is an 'exploit' that allows a user to install it on official 8MB Sony MC's as well as 3rd party cards. (with the exception of those needing a boot disc to be recognized or cloned Chinese cards)"
I am just installing the new fmcb 1.6 on my Datel 64mb card.
It was just released.
http://psx-scene.com/forums/freevast/582...t-releases.html
And yes I have converted quite a few games from CD to DVD, then patch them to work with ESR
I just use this guide.

Black works fine for me with ESR
I haven't played the Fifa 07 and fifa Street 2, but was trying to check through the ESR compatibility thread to see if anyone has tried it yet.
So far in Post#52 someone has Black, Fifa 08 working with ESR 6
http://psx-scene.com/forums/freevast/584...ity-list-3.html
You might want to ask in that thread or look through the posts to see if anyone else has them working.
I know with Swap Magic they had to be rebuilt to work because of the TOC size, but they should work with ESR

Hey smokyrain,
I've noticed that EA games that are close to 4gb and over has a problem, because nfs: carbon(patched) works fine.
I'm gonna try the other ESR versions first though, i'm currently using ESR beta9, before i rebuild 'em.

Yes those EA games can be troublesome, but they should work with ESR.
Post in the ESR bug thread on psx scene,if they don't work, and maybe ffgriever will have a solution.
