I rebuilt BLACK from a 3.9 to a 1.6 gb and now it's working perfect with esr 8. It turned out that my FIFA 07 had errors, so i'm gonna do it again, but my GOW which i wanna play on GOD MODE has suddenly stopped working. I'm hearing odd sounds as if the disc reads then stops, it's like it's checking for something and can't find it on the disc. I don't know what i'm gonna do about that one yet. So far:
BLACK - rebuilt, patched (smartbuy dvd-r)
MGS3: SNAKE EATER - patched (verbatim dvd-r)
GOW2 - rebuilt, patched (verbatim dvd-r)
NFS: CARBON - patched (verbatim dvd-r)
gonna try some more.

Cool, glad you got those working.
I wonder if you tried your GOW2 with ESR 9a, and see how it works.
I know the backed up DVD9 of GOW 2 works with ESR fine.

My GOW2 works fine with ESR 8/9, it's my GOW or should i say GOW1 that has stopped working. I'm hearing odd sounds when i try to boot it, as a matter of fact it's the same sounds i used to get from BLACK and FIFA 07, that's why i rebuilt BLACK and found out that FIFA 07 had errors.
Let's say i backed up a game, patched it and it works fine. If i decide to just copy that working backup, will it work or do i have to back it up then patch it and burn it to dvd-r?
Long question, even though i ask, you know i'm gonna try anyway right?
I think we should contribute to this thread the games that we have tried, got to work and how. I think it will be helpful.

Oh ok I wasn't sure if meant GOW 1 or your GOW2
I burnt my DVD9 GOW1 to Verbatim DL DVD+R using imgburn at 2.4x speed.
I had first tried it at 4x but it had troubles reading it in the PS2.
Is yours the rebuilt version or DVD9 version.
I had asked on psx-scene about making a list of compatible games with ESR but like ffgriever said there are so many variations because ESR was not final.
So far peeps are just posting what has worked so far and with what version ESR in a thread over there.
I know for memor32 there was a couple sites listed of what worked and what didn't.

My GOW is the rebuilt version.
The thing about it is it worked for a while, my brother played and completed it and i played it a bit, then we didn't play it for a few days. So when i tried it again it didn't load.

You could try to copy it again if its already patched and see if that works. And lol, yes I know you will try it anyway.

It could be the disc, however i just put it in and left it and my brother said it takes 5-15 minutes to load, guess i am a little impatient.
I found my old SHINOBI, of course i backed it up and patched it and its working fine.

5-15 minutes is a bit much for me, lol. Did it play fine after that though? I am thinking I would recopy it.
Didn't take that long for games on a USB drive and they can be slow.

Great tutorial. Me and my kids are running 2 fat ps2's both with the ule 4.12 loading and we have HDL, SNES Station and PGEN running off the HDD.
My current issue is trying to play backups I have a crap load of them and for some reason I cant play them with the retail copy of Swap magic 3.8 I have. Wanted to see if this esr will do it. SO I went over to get the esr and have several different ones. I patched madden 09 just to see if it would work. I just get a black screen. I have been using the following esr's:
esr beta r8a+mcard.elf
esr beta r8a dvdv direct off.elf
esr beta r8a dvdv direct.elf
esr beta r8a mcard.elf
esr beta r9a dvdv direct off.elf
esr beta r9a dvdv direct.elf
esr beta r9a mcard.elf
Which one do i need and where do I past them? I have a folder on my HDD for all my elfs, will that work. I tried the mcard elf from the mc and get a black screen, then tried the direct elf from a usb thumb, black screen and tried it from the Hdd, black screen.

Use the esr beta r9a dvdv direct.elf, and seeing it is very small in size you can put it in a folder on your mc card. I like to to use a folder called BOOT or ELFS, just less chance for corruption if you put it in a folder.
It should launch from your hdd also, but I have not tried this. I boot other elf files from my hdd and they work fine.
YOu could then make a shortcut using uLe to this esr beta r9a dvdv direct.elf . I usually use R1
That way you could put Madden 09 in the disc tray and when starting up Ule, Press R1 on the controller and ESR 9a should load up. You will get the color screens, then the game should launch.
Have you thought of installing the fmcb 1.6 since you have Swap Magic, then you never have a need for swapping discs anymore.

Ok So what do you suggest for burning; I have both Dvd decrypter (which I used to burn madden patched with the esr patcher) and nero 7. Also I am currently trying to install this using the tutorial on psx scene wrtten by jimmikaelkael onto a 32mb max memory card. That worked better than I thought. It loads str8 to the ps2 browser but when I hit o it shoes all my programs.
When I load the game with the new install the screen just says unable to read disc. I am going to try a different type of dvd and burn it with nero this time.

I usually use Imgburn and burn at 4x-6x using either Verbatim, Sony or Fujifilm DVD-R
If you use DVD+R, you need to set the BOOKTYPE to DVD-ROM
Did you have problems before at all reading original disks? I am just wondering if your Laser is good or not.
Not sure what you are asking about the "Browser"
To configure the sony Browser to have your elf files show you need to read the "Configure OSDSYS Options" in the tutorial.

Thanx I figured out the issue with the browser. Just went into the fmcb cnf and chaged a few things and voila a heavy browser list.
The laser is fine, I play Socom CA online all the time and my kids have singstar and they wanted to play the backup of one of the singstar games. Do I need to patch it with the esr patch or not?
Also I reburned madden and it doesnt even register in they system. I dunno whats going on. I hope my laser isnt dying.
:( that would suck bigtime.

Ok your laser probably is fine. I know Madden 09 is confirmed working with hdloader and no modes selected. So you think it would work fine with ESR
For the Singstar backup, yes you would need to use Imgburn to create ISO from disk, then patch it with the ESR disc patcher GUI v0.24a and burn it again using Imgburn.
You can upgrade your DVD Decrypter to Imgburn (its free) if you wish too. Its the successor to DVD Decrypter.
I haven't heard any one else say if Madden 09 works with ESR or not, I may have to get it myself and give it a go.

I think I will try madden one last time with one of the two dvds that I have. I'm gonna do singstar first, since they really want to play it. I had it working on HDL but it was out of sync...words didnt match the video. The ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix didnt fix the sync issue unless there is something else I need to do to get it working.
Also for swap magic to load my other backups do I have to patch them first? What steps do I use to get my pre-esr backups running?

For singstar you can do a forum search and find most people had problems with the PAL versions and that they would be out of sync.
As far as I know it works ok with ESR
To use your Swap Magic discs, you need to have a slide card or fliptop, (fliptop is better)
There are good instructions here on how to use SM 3.6
No you don't need to patch the discs you had backed up before if you are going to use them with Swap magic.
In order to just use SM 3.8 elf files on your fmcb exploit, you would load the SM 3.8 elf, then you would hit EJECT, put in an Original High TOC game, let it refresh, then using your Slide tool swap it for the backup.
If you don't have a lot of previous backups, I personally recommend just to redo them by making an image and patch them to use with ESR.

Ok I got Madden 09 - ISO image 1.54GB
Patched the ISO with ESR disc patcher
Burned using Sony DVD-R with imgburn at 4x
Loaded up PS2 with disc in, hit R2(ESR) on controller using fmcb 1.6 and it loaded up fine.
Maybe you just got a bad rip of Madden 09, not sure.

It might be just a bad rip then. I dont know. It works fine with HDL so I guess i shouldnt complain, I was trying to play online and maybe update the rosters for the kids if their friends come over.
Thanx again for all your help. I am out of dvd's so I cant try madden again. But I will also just rip it again later and try it again. I did get singstar to load and start but when I tried to play a game, it froze so I cant try it again. I do have the pal versions of it because the usa version is kinda like finding a unicorn.
As far as swap magic I am gonna try it again. Thanks for all your help.

Well no luck with swap magic. I tried it on both fatty's I have here. I did get Madden to work on the other system so I played online for a while and am satisfied. Might have to see if I can salvage a system from one of the kids in the area. THey get the Ps3 and abandon their ps2's so I might luck up.

Well seeing you tried the Swap Magic on 2 PS2's there also could be something wrong with the discs.
It is not uncommon for them to be shipped as faulty discs. Most retailers will take them back and ship a new one.

Hey Smokyrain, I'm thinking of upgrading from FMCB 1.5 to 1.6 but i wanna know since you tried, have you noticed anything different - like what is better! I just use mine to boot backups str8, that's it! I'm not too fancy about stuff unless i'm gonna run an experiment or two, if you know what i mean?

Actually the only thing a lot like I believe is the Sony Browser
You can just load up to that, then choose what you want.
And that its easy to change the fmcb configurator if you wish.
It automatically installs the following apps.
Then you can just add elf files that you want installed extra.
These files can also be launched during boot-up with the button presses :
* BOOT.ELF ( R1)
* ESR.ELF ( R2)
* HDLOADER.ELF ( L1)
* SMS.ELF ( L2)
* FMCB Configurator ( START)
Now with the 1.5 you have to actually put the BOOT.ELF in the INSTALL folder, and then add apps later with ule.
Then of course set up the shortcut keys when booting to
BOOT.ELF - This of course loads if you don't press any buttons
BOOT1.ELF-R1 is depressed upon startup
BOOT2.ELF-R2
BOOT3.ELF-L1
BOOT4.ELF-L2
So personally I don't see a whole of difference to upgrade to 1.6 if you have 1.5 unless you want those extra features of the Sony Browser and the configurator.
I think the 1.6 is probably just easier for those even just starting out with PS2 and have never done any kind of exploits etc.
I just did it myself of course to see what was different or better.
It is of course fine, but I mostly just use the buttons to load whichever program.
Their tutorial does explain a lot, but they are still working on the next release so you may want to even hold off and see what that will be like.
They discuss it quite a bit with the beta testers in this thread.

Do you put the entire ulaunch folder in the install folder?
I don't see where i should get a boot elf?
I've decided to try FMCB 1.6!
