Thanks for the help.

My ISP isn't bad, I used to have great speeds, its been like a year since I had any problems with download speeds with bittorent, it just started like last week. And friends of mine who have the same ISP and connection speed download fast. My speedtest results (Using the site you provided) were 1522kbps down, 162kbps up. (1.5MB connection, so I think it makes sense).

But, maybe I missed something, does the site also provide that "tweak test"? Because thats what I was talking about and had problems running, so I'm looking for an alternative to that.

Thanks again for all your help. :)

I'm doing the tweaking test on the broadbandreports site but I get"* Downloading file of size 1024000: Failed to download: Read timed out"
Is there any way to solve this problem or an alternative test site? :\
I tested torrents by telling my friends to download them, they would get like high speeds like above 100kbps while I get 0-5kbps on the same torrents. It's really annoying me. I have no router, my firewall is disabled, and my ports are all fine.
Anyway I guessed this test would really help me but its not working. :\
Hey, better post what internet speed you have.

Do you have router by any chance? If so, portforward it

Try this, disable UPnP and set a port over 10,000 that isn't the default at options>preferences>connection, enable Protocol Encryption: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395674 and you can enable both DHT options but only on public sites at options>preferences>bittorrent. You can set Global maximum connections and maximum connected peers to 200 - 300. Make sure your connection type in speed guide is set correctly for your upload.

you said that you got your speed from a dsl speed test. Is your internet connection DSL or cable??? Just sign up in a private tracker and you'll get much faster speed.

Have you got kB confused with kb? 8 kb = 1 kB. 80% of your upload is around 12 kB which utorrent uses and speed tests I have seen don't. 118 kbps seems fairly low, check it a few times. This is an accurate site that tests Globally: http://www.speedtest.net/

I see. Well, cable is much faster than DSl so yeah.. And Demonoid is only semi-private tracker.

You have to be able to upload in order to download. Around 12 - 15 at connection type at Speed Guide is correct but seems quite low. Select torrents with many seeds/peers and another possibility may be your ISP is throttling torrents.

Usually a new Isp but throttling is only a guess to check out. Sometimes, Protocol Encryption, downloading between 12:00 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. or using a port that other processes use may work like 443, 1720 or 8080. Edit: nothing to do with throttling but if IE 7 is installed, try IE 6.

Hey, try downloading during midnights and early mornings where most of the people are asleep. That way, less traffic, faster download!

Very true, but there is a simple work around. When you set the global max up speed, that is the speed that the client recognizes in terms of "having to give to receive." Set the global to whatever....now when you start a torrent, you can right click it and enter whatever value you like for max upload speed for the individual torrent, with no decrease in dl speed. Kinda goes against the "sharing" spirit of bittorrent, but it is a work around.

I just started downloading torrents and all the guides have been very useful. A couple of questions though....how do I add trackers to my tracker list in BitComet?....and it is better to use multiple trackers or just try to stay with one? I have read that private trackers are better, but getting invites aren't simple as everyone has indicated. Plus I live in the US so I can't access some trackers like www.torrentspy.com Greatly appreciate the help....

Another question....I also have been trying to use uTorrent, but when I go to download, I get "Not enough storage to process this command". Is this because I really don't have the memory space? I usually have between 4-6GB available on my HDD so why would I get this message? Or is it due to the type of media file I am trying to download? A lot of the torrents I download have the .avi file extension. Does this really make a difference?

you guys havent got a 400mb/s and a 100mb/s connection because it says it Network Connections that is just the speed that connection ie the ethernet port could take. Your broadband speed is what decides what your speed is.

Hey all. Great Guide. I got a small problem with my uTorrent. I followed the instructions carefull and forwarded the port accordingly. I use 2wire 2700hg modem and i am on wireless conection. My internet speed is 1500kbps ( thats what they claim it to be ). I have also put exceptions for uTorrent in zonealarm and windows firewall. but i can seem to get the green tick. instead, i get an red exclamation. really need some help. the file i am dling now has 43(120) seeds and 213(861) peers. My dling speed is 50-70 kBps and upload is around 40kBps. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advvance. Btw, I am from Singapore.
In Zonealarm go to Firewall>Main then move the "Internet Zone Security" slider to "Medium"

You'll still be protected except you'll be visible to other computers. Wait a little while and utorrent will change from Red to Green.
When you're finished with utorrent shift the slider back to "High"

Hope this helps.
