finally GT4 is on and working it had to do with the original iml and ims file i downloaded some new ones off someone else and then loaded it on with winhip and i also think my hard drive doesnt support or like hdl_dump seens how first time i got winhip to do it worked so if ne ones else if having probs vist ps2-scene .org and somewhere in there some has posted fixs for iml and ims files id also like to thank alanld, williej, toolboy, samuels, l-burna and everyone else on this forum that has helped the loading times off hard drive are awesome to thankx guys

i dont feel like reading the whole thing :D
so to summarize
the game is working form a HD finally right?

Not sure why.
I used alcohol latest version to create image file.
Then used apache 1.1 to open it.When you go to open iso image change iso image file to all files so it will display all files then click on your GRANTURISMO4.MDF not GRANTURISMO4.MDS.file.You can now extract the two layers by switching layers in apache.

Solargame...For the last frigging time. Not everyone on here are pirates. A game that you have to pay $50 for is worth backing up. I don't want to have to go out and buy this game again. Plus, I would really like to put it on my HDD to have save my laser. To answer you last comment...If you are swapping the game with a different original then you have something alright...you have an illegal copy.
Bassy...I am going to need your help with putting this on my hdd. I am going to have to wait till this weekend when I can do it on my friends computer. I have Windows 98SE, and with the 4GB file size limit, I am having much troubles with Apache.

So, I've read the whole thread, and basically If you have hdloader/hdadvance etc, or a DMS4 chip you can back it up, but if you dont have a hd or have a different mod chip, you can't back it up (and play)?

well anyway someone will eventually crack GT4 probably SONIX I just backed up "GOD OF WAR" Yesterday www.backuptools.co.uk works great -thanks to sonix- just keep your fingers crossed and dont lose hope just cause its almost impossible.......

Just read this on another site.
I HAVE DONE IT (CRACK GT4). TO DO IT CREATE A ISO IMAGE OF THE GAME ON HARD DRIVE. EXTRACT THE VOL FILE FROM THE ISO USING ISOBUSTER THEN USING A PROGRAM WHICH WAS CREATED TO EXTRACT THE VOL FILE FROM GT3 TO EXTRACT THE GT4 VOL FILE (I CAN NOT REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS CALLED) TO DO IT RENAME THE EXTRATCED GT4.VOL TO GT3.VOL AND RUN THE PROGRAM WHEN THE PROGRAM HAS EXTRATCED THE FILES DELETE JP AND US FOLDERS AND FILES. THIS TAKES ABOUT 1GB OFF THE SIZE SAVE AND THEN RENAME THE EDITOR VOL FILE BACK TO GT4.VOL.nOW USING MAGIC ISO DELETE THE ORIGINAL GT4.VOL FROM THE ISO IMAGE AND REPLACE WITH YOUR EDITED VERSION. tHIS MAKE THE TOTAL SIZE OF THE ISO IMAGE ABOUT 4.4GB THEN USING Nero OR OTHER BURNING SOFTWARE BURN THE ISO IMAGE TO DISK AND ENJOY PLAYING THE GAME (THIS TOOK ME ABOUT 8 HOURS TO CRACK BUT IT WAS WORTH IT BECAUSE I HAVE THE GAME AND I AM ALSO THE FIRST PERSON FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THAT HAS DONE IT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) NOW YOU CAN DO.Does this make any sense??

Toolboy's way is the best one right now. Hop over here: http://www.ps2hd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1032
And download the tools. It's very straight forward ... do EVERYTHING step by step. It's tedious but it's worth it.
I used Apache 1.1 because Apache 2 locked up on me as well. So .//bodom, I dunno what tha prob is ... I am running an Athlon 3000, 1gb RAM, 160gb HD, 128mb vid card and it hung up on me.
Just download Apache 1.1. Works just fine. Trust me ... I was all over the New York track with a Chrsyler Crossfire ...

To be honest I dont think there will ever be a type of encryption/protection that cannot be cracked. If someone has designed it then there will be some flaws as they are only human.
I wish I was just clever enough and have hex/programming skills to try and crack these myself.
There is always someone better than you, no matter what.
