as a follow up to my previous post:
i have finally gotten rid of low id -- yay!!!!! ..... i guess.
however, as i had seen in some post before this one (single digit page number ) the speed of my downloads has not improved. with the new modem/router i have my internet speed (browsing and speed tests) have all improved. the question is then, well a rhetorical one it appears, is it the router that is causing this slow d/load speed? what is the solution. thanks everyone.

If you have a netgear wgr614 here is the best tutorial for emule port forwarding"
http://portforward.com/english/routers/p...GR614/eMule.htm
The default login to your router is admin:password at 192.168.0.1 or www.routerlogin.com.
I first changed the ports on emule to a port over 10000 like it recommended, then I set up a static IP address that I use when I have emule turned on, and then I forwarded the ports emule uses for that address. Every part of the process is covered in that tutorial above though.
One newbie question - how do I know if i have a lowid or a highid? I just had to do a factory reset on my router and I opened up emule and have been downloading but forgot to redo the port forwarding ... and now I realize my download speeds are still pretty fast. My ethernet cable is plugged directly into my wireless router right now.
btw I use sharevirus.com for all my needs = )

Ah i found the lowid / highid place. It is under the 'Servers' tab under 'MyInfo' in the bottom right (v0.47c). But yeah, it was lowid w/o port forwarding so i turned it back on and now it is a highid right away. Maybe I was just lucky before and had files with a lot of seeds or something.
btw, something I do is under the 'server' tab, I use this to update my server list: http://www.gruk.org/server.met.gz
I put that in the 'Update server.met from URL' option. And then I go to the server with the most users on which is always DonkeyServer No2. If you update the server list without using an alternate source there will be a lot of fake servers. That's what I read at least and it worked.

hate to break it to ya, valiance, but as me and the rabbit figured out shortly ago, Canopy users will almost undoubtedly NEVER be able to get HighID... check from here on for more info... (Note: you may not understand until you read ALL the posts posted AFTER this one.)

hey guys, learned some new stuff, thought i'd share:
http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Special_...G_GL_GS_routers
the page STARTS to get interesting here, and many of the points on this page apply to P2P as well. a REAL point of interest is abit further down, headed under the "Modems/routers" list...

sorry for your luck, val. when i first got my Canopy, i opted to hook it up myself (and save the $100 setup fee), so they gave me an installation guide :) the next-to-last page of which listed the "web page" of the radio (for "fine-tuning" the signal). not sure if it's the same for ALL Canopy's, but mine was 169.254.1.1 . also, you need to be DIRECTLY connected to the Canopy (i,e., no router). if this isn't yours, or you're not sure, you could call your ISP, tell them you're trying to get a better signal, and want to know how to access your Canopy's signal strength...
anywayz, there weren't that many changable options on the page, so i'm not sure if this all will help, but good luck anyway ;)

BTW I have high ID but when I test the ports I still get the failed to test error, its not a low ID error but rather one telling me it cant connect or something, but I definitely have a HIGH ID in emule.

this will have NO EFFECT on your Canopy setup (provided your ISP IS keeping you in a private network, like mine). this is merely another way to set up your eMule (much like punisher1's list, actually, although punisher's list is more "complete"). and as long as your Windows install is up-to-date (a la Windows Update), you can ignore that warning about UPnP being a security risk. not only did the government take that back about Windows, but M$ themselves issued a patch shortly after it was discovered to fix the problem.
for the uninitiated: "Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a capability that allows devices on a network to discover other devices and determine how to work with them. UPnP is most easily understood by comparison to plug-and-play (PnP) capability that most Windows users already are familiar with. PnP allows the operating system to detect new hardware when you install it on a system. For instance, if you install a new mouse onto your computer, PnP allows Windows to detect it, load the needed drivers, and begin using it. UPnP extends this concept to devices on a network, rather than on the local system itself. UPnP lets computers learn about other devices on the network, and determine how to use them. For instance, a computer could use UPnP to detect whether there are printers on the network that it can use and learn how to use them." <from Micro$oft's web site>
in short, UPnP is no threat, and Canopy users STILL have LowID in eMule... sorry :(

oh, and to Kulith, be sure you aren't getting a "false HighID", as some servers tend to do that. for best results, may i recommend clearing your server list, and only using servers on the list here. it may be a shorter list, but you'll get quicker searches, and fewer "false returns" during a search. if you still get a High ID after updating yourserver list, then i could be wrong in my assumption...

yamayama, be sure you are typing it with a space inbetween, ex: telnet 10.0.0.138
and not telnet10.0.0.138 as you posted.
ghazgull, what is the exact model no. of your LinkSys? if it's WRT54G, the default pass is to leave the username blank, with admin as password. if this doesn't work, you may need to reset your router to factory default.

yamayama I think i read your last post correctly.
Quote: windows and mcafee and portfowared the ports,
If memory servers me right, we have discovered Windows XP firewall, even if you turn if off, can and/or does continue to block ports.
You MUST open emule ports in WinXP firewall.
If your McAfee has a built in firewall make sure you configure that too or turn if off.
I think its a good idea to turn off all firewalls ONLY to TEST. Once, you have completed the tests you should at the very minimum turn your Router's firewall back on. Do NOT leave your computer(s) in the DMZ very long.
If you could give us any additional info that would help.
thanks.

yamayama, a few questions before i have an answer for ya:
are you directly connected to your SpeedTouch (which is an ADSL modem more than a router), or are you behind another router before the cable goes to the computer?
also, are you directly connected, or is it a wireless connection to your modem? if you are directly connected to the modem from your PC, then the "Wireless Network" is NOT the one you want, but is an add-in card (most common with notebook laptop PC's). the 1394 port is an external hard drive port (also occasionally used for MiniDV Cameras). in this situation, the only connection you need to worry about is the "Local Area Network".
also, check the IP address of the modem: go to the Start Menu, click Run..., type cmd, and when the black screen pops up, type in:
ipconfig /all
don't forget the space. look under the heading "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection" or something, next to IP Address. if the number there is any of the following:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
then your ISP has you on a Private IP Address, and you will *gasp* NEVER get High ID with that IP...
if that IS the case, then your only other option is to change ISP's.
if NOT, please let me know about the things i asked above.

ghazgull Is your router a wireless router? if so, have you ever changed the default login password?
If not, then a close-by wireless user can easly log in to your router and change the password for themselves.
If you do have a wireless router is the Wireless secure?
I have seen too many wireless routers unlocked.
An unlocked wireless router is easy to connect to.
If you do have a wireless router (even if you do not use it for wireless yourself) and you cannot login in, if I was you i would do a hard reset to reset any potential configurations from someone else.
let us know.

Darkflux, i thought for sure that you where right that i had a false High ID, because the next time I turned on my computer i had a low id again. But as I was following the directions again I noticed my ip adress changed from 102 to 103 and I had to go to the http://192.16etc.. site again and change it from 102 to 103 and i had a High IP again.
I will try what you said now and change servers
Edit: yup I cleared server list and only added "powerfull servers" and connected to a donkeyserver and still have High ID :D
Thx for your help.

My IP add of Local area Network is between 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255. But the number is different from before. A static IP is the Ip add now. (I'm not sure if the static Ip is correct. I used the site 'port forward.com'to find out my static IP)
The speed touch is directly connected to my computer.
I type in the number 3000, 44526 for TCP and UDP of eMule. (is the number OK???)
I changed internet protcol TCP/IP of the Local area network (when I typed in the ip add the subnet mask went automatically 255.0.0.0 so I changed it to 255.255.255.0) and I changed NAPT of the speedtouch.
I add exception number 3000 and 44526 for windows xp firewall(firewall is on but add excption) and turned off firewalls of speedtouch and mcafee. Are there any problmes???
Please help....

yamayama I guess it wouldn't hurt to try this. It has worked for me and others but not everyone. Although, sometimes ISP's block P2P, sometimes you can call your ISP and ask. Sometimes they tell you and sometimes they don't.
In order for this to work you need to do every step.
This is a lengthy process. You may want to PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
1. Open emule and click the Options button on the Toolbar.
2. Click Connection
3. Change the TCP default Port to 4660.
4. Change the UDP default Port to 4670.
5. Click Apply.
6. Click the Test Ports Button. A window will open and display both ports tested successfully. But, if they don?t work it may only be because you have not fully configured everything yet.
7. Click OK at the bottom.
8. Close eMule.
This step adds Networking Services to WinXP.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs
3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components
4. Scroll down and click on Networking Services
5. Click the Details button
6. Check the box for: Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client (this option may already be checked).
7. Check the box for: UPnP User Interface
8. Click OK then click Next***Note***You may be required to provide your Windows XP CD.
9. Click Finish.
10. Close the Add/Remove and Control Panel Windows.
If you are running Windows XP SP2 you need to do the following. If you are not running SP2 then you can skip this next step.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Click Windows firewall
3. Click the Exceptions tab
4. Click the Add Programs button, Scroll down and select Emule. ***If emule is not listed then browse to: C:\Program Files\emule\emule.exe and select emule.exe.
5. Click OK
6. Click Add Port. For the name put Emule TCP and enter the Port 4660. Make sure TCP is selected.
7. Click Add Port. For the name put Emule UDP and enter the Port 4670. Make sure UDP is selected.
8. Now click on the Advanced Tab (next to the Exceptions tab).
9. Under the section: Network Connection Settings, Click the Settings button.
10. Check the list to see if you have two entries for eMule TCP and/or UDP if they are not listed then proceed to step 11. Remember, only do this step if neither TCP or UDP entries are in the list. If there are two entries in the list click the TCP option and edit it. Enter either the name or the IP Address of your computer. (If you are using more than one computer on your router you may want to use the name of your computer because your IP Addresses could change between other PC?s on your network during reboots).
For the TCP option make sure Port 4660 is entered for both internal and external.
Now Click the UDP option and edit it. Enter the same info you entered for your TCP (computer name or IP Address) and ensure Port 4670 is entered for both internal and external. Skip to step 20.
Start here only if the two emule ports are not in the list.
11. Click the Add button (only do this step if there are no TCP or UDP entries in the list).
12. In the Description of Service enter: emule TCP Ports
13. On the next line enter either the name of your computer or your IP Address (If you are using more than one computer on your router you may want to use the name of your computer because your IP Addresses could change between the other PC?s on your network during reboots).
14. For both Ports (internal and external) entries use 4660, make sure TCP is selected
15. Click OK
16. Click the Add button again
17. In the Description of Service enter: emule UDP Ports
18. On the next line enter either the name of your computer or your IP Address
19. For both Ports (internal and external) entries use 4670, make sure UDP is selected
20. Click the OK buttons to exit out
21. Close out of the Control Panel
This step is only if you are using a Router of somekind.
I have successfulley tested this using Linksys routers. I have not tried this on any other brand router. If you are using a router, other than a Linksys router, I recommend you do this next step anyway. Most routers are similiar in Port Forwarding.
1. Go to a command prompt and type: IPCONFIG write down or note your IP Address.
2. Login to your router
3. If Linksys click on the Advanced tab
4. Next click on the Forwarding tab
5. Enter the following settings:
TCP 4660 To 4660 TCP 192.168.1.XXX (your IP Address) Enable(checkbox)
UDP 4670 To 4670 UDP 192.168.1.XXX (your IP Address) Enable(checkbox)
If you have more than one computer on your network you can repeat step 5 and enter a second IP address. Here is an example how your router could look if you have more than on computer on your router. This way if your computer?s IP Address changed from .100 to .101 on the next reboot it would not matter because you have both IP's configured in the router.
TCP 4660 TO 4660 TCP 192.168.1.100
UDP 4670 TO 4670 UDP 192.168.1.100
TCP 4660 TO 4660 TCP 192.168.1.101
UDP 4670 TO 4670 TCP 192.168.1.101
6. Click the Apply button
7. Logout of your router.
After this is complete Windows XP should automatically install a network Gateway in your Network Connections configuration.REBOOT your computer. A reboot usually is required to start the Network Connections configuration.
That?s it your done. I recommend you reboot especially if you still are getting a LOWID. Open emule and see if you can connect at HighID.
If you still do not connect it may be because you are using a different router. I?m using a Linksys router but, again, the settings are basically the same.
If after the reboot and still a LOWID i suggest going back through the instructions to ensure you didn't miss or enter something incorrectly such as a typo in the Port settings.
If you are still not able to connect with HIGH ID then i would say your ISP is blocking or something with them is a hinderance.
Despite what others say regarding my fix, remember, not all systems are the same. You have to find what works for your system. It works for me and for other?s I?ve helped.
Sorry, if this was not a help.
