I don't think one looks "cheaper" than the other.I think they both look the same with the exception of a few missing connector's which we already knew about.
Sony brand stuff are NOT made cheap. It's a great brand ps3 or not and you'll pay for it too.

the 500 dollar 1 is purely for people not going online. the 60 gig hard drive wifi and the s card (is that the right name?) is all for going online. and besides did u expect the 500 and the 600 american versions to be the same???

Me too.I like the way upright looks better but I never bought the stand for ps2.I aint payin 30 bucks for a peice of plastic. I would rather spend that on a game(which won't get you far these days lol).

the core doesn't "suck," it just won't fulfill your wants. face it the games will look/play the same.

everything is the same expect the lack of some connectors like the sd cards and lack of hdmi. even then so, each console has the same ability but one just has less with it. componant does 1080p and always will for games. after ICT though only hdmi will do 1080p for movies.
i'll probably stand mine upright on the side of my entertainment center (a small 2.2x1.5x2-ish cart big enought for my tv) or i may lay it down on the floor for all to see.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

It sucks for me. I don't speak on behalf of anyone else. How many do you think will buy the core? The games will look the same if you don't have HDTV with hdmi but if you do hdmi DOES improve the quality significantly.and lack of wifi will directly effect online gaming.

the cheaper version can play games in 1080p, not movies. not following you on how the lack of wi-fi is going to directly effect online gaming.....

hade, you noob. dont lie, it plays 1080p movies perfectly. Whenever ICT is enacted is when it cant do 1080p w/o hdmi or it will downscale.

ICT has been talked about being enacted in roughly a couple years, so those w/o HDMI are done for in time....warner has already said they will enact and downscale their HD-DVD movies upon release, so i'd expect the same for Blu-ray, and im sure they are not alone....

sony needs to make the 500 dollar version be able to play 1080p movies because alot of people will buy the ps3 simply for the halfpriced bluray

Did I say anything about resolution hade? There are other considerations besides resolution. It's still a analog source against a digital one.Vga on the pc can produce the same resolutions as dvi but dvi is better period. The hdmi is a higher quality connection how much plainer can I make that. The wifi will directly effect gamers who don't want a huge cable running across there living room.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_Video
Quote: Currently, component video connections are gradually being superseded by the higher quality digital DVI and HDMI interface.
Quote: Component video is capable of producing signals such as 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p, but digital connections such as DVI (video only) and HDMI (which can also include up to 8 channels of audio) give better results at the higher resolutions (up to 1080p). HDMI also includes both a video and audio signal in a single cable.
They also just updated it for increased bandwidth and refresh rates on top of it.
