@armyman45,

it does matter a bit. A cso is a compressed iso file. So if u are goin to play cso files, u will notice i bit of lag then iso. Cso are smaller size than iso though

@phoenash

Start with #2:
2.)you can only play backed up psp games if you have custom firmware if you do not have custom firmware go here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313 to get started and come back when you have 3.71m33 or higher.

I have a 2.5 firmware version PSP how do I play iso and cso games with it? And is it easier to program that firmware to my 3.80 version?

Help please.

Again see #2 - you need to get custom firmware on the psp to play iso's/cso's.
The guide linked there will show you how to do it.

Okay, please be patient. I'm completely new to this, and am having problems. ;)

I'm stationed in Iraq and purchased a PSP Slim over here, I assume that it's different than the ones in the U.S. since it only plays Region 3 UMD movies and not the Region 1 movies. However, the shop where I bought the PSP put 3.90 M33 on it and some game .iso's, which I am able to play.

I've purchased some UMD games and want to put them on my memory stick so that I don't have to lug around a bunch of little disks. I have read the tutorial at the beginning of this post, and put in a UMD game, but when I hit the select button nothing happens. I have even downloaded the 3.90 M33-3 update and managed to update the firmware, but again, when I hit the 'select' button, nothing happens. If I put it in USB mode (an option under "settings"), and then hit select, it goes out of USB mode.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

** Update ** Okay, I didn't realize that I had to enable options in the recovery menu (I didn't even know what the recovery menu was). Please add into your tutorial for us newbies how to go into the recovery menu and enable the select button for the USB mode.

Other than that, it's a great tutorial. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I have tried searching and know the basics from reading the tutorials. Am wondering if anyone has encountered the same problem as me.

First of all, if I can play games loaded on a memory stick, does that mean I have custom firmware?

I have a PSP slim and it says i have 3.71m33-2 on the Systems menu.

The problem I have is I cannot see the games I have loaded onto the memory stick.

I expect that it has been configured correctly, as I can see one game that was previously loaded, but not the other 5 or 6 iso/cso that were put in the exact same ISO folder as the first game. So the problem I have is not a straight forward can play/cannot play iso problem. Its more a why can my PSP read one file and not the others?]

Can someone please enlighten me?

@Muckafut
Yes you have custom firmware - the m33 means you do
Update your firmware to the latest - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/616311
Some of the games you are playing may require the latest.

Also try the tips in troubleshooting part of the guide.

Thanks Binkie and Occupier....let me go try the latest firmware and see what happens. Just a quick question, if the games require the latest firmware, would I be able to see them in the Memory stick menu but will not be able to play them? Or will i not be able to see them at all?

Many thanks!!!

@Muckafut
It probably won't play if it was just a firmware issue - still update it though.
Set the driver to no umd (see troubleshooting tips) also.

Thanks for directing me to the thread. I have successfully upgraded to 4.01 firmware, although all my games still do not appear. I used Win XP. I am going to try using Vista once I get back from my trip.
Many thanks to everyone esp Binkie, Occupier and Larrylje (author of the upgrading guide).

@Muckafut
Which games are giving you problems? Do some still work?

Have you tried changing the drive to no umd or tried any of the other tips on the first page.

Vista and the upgraders are pretty hit or miss - XP (not 64 bit) is the recommended os to use.

Occupier: nope i haven't tried the battery yet. will give it a shot.

Binkie7: Hmmm the games that still work are the ones that other people loaded onto the memory sticks previously. thats what puzzles me...what am i doing wrong? I have 3 different memory sticks and 2 laptops but the ones that i drag in myself dun seem to appear.i've done all the easy stuff like changing options on the menus and stuff. the battery part that occupier suggested I haven't done it yet. will try that when i get the chance. I'm in singapore by the way so let's hope i can get the battery from here.

Ok thanks for all the guidance. I think I have solved my problem and want to share my solution...sort of just present some alternatives to people who may experience the same stuff.

As it turned out I did not need the Datel Batter as my set already had custome firmware. I used the One-Stop guide to upgrade to 4.01 with no problems but my games didnt show up.

So here's what I did. I used another computer that was running Vista to transfer the files to my memory stick and it worked. Not sure if this is it but helped in my case.

Also when extracting RAR files, I found that if I used 3.80 beta version of Winrar it didnt work. So i had to use Winrar 3.71.

Hope this helps. All the best and happy gaming everyone.

First Galatea07 you need custom firmware - it's no. 2 under part of the first post:

Ten read the read of it for switching the driver but you need cfw first.

tnx for answering so fast:) well,I guess I managed to install custom firmware since now there are some add-ons showing on psp,when I go to games...and now what? I tried making an iso folder and putting the game there but it still doesn't work(says corrupted data) sorry to bother you so much,but I really suck at this -_-

Let's check and make sure you have custom firmware. In the xmb (main screen of the psp) go to system settings then scroll down to system information. What does it say next to system software? If you see like 3.90 m33-3 then you have cfw - the m33 mean cfw.

If you format the memory stick with the psp you should have a iso folder already - just drag & drop or copy & paste the games there from your pc.
