The title says it all. Automatic burning with Nero8 as a supported burner in DVD Shrink will not work, at least not with the version supporting ImgBurn. The problem is the Video_TS folder isn't written into the output going to the DVD. Open the DVD and all you get are the BUP, IFO, and VOB files. The files play fine on my PC playback software. However, without the Video_TS folder, most standalone players won't open the recorded DVD. Burning the output manually using Nero Express from the Nero8 suite works. So, you're not left without burner ware. You have to save Shrink output and burn manually though. The free ImgBurn works as well as a manual burner, and when installed for Shrink support, burns automatically.
Update: After using the clean tool and reinstalling Nero 8 the Video_TS folder showed up the way it's supposed to. Unfortunately the DVDs still won't play properly. The video doesnt start right and then goes to a track and starts looping. Some people say theirs start in the middle and jump to the end. It acts like the structure has been altered. I tested with older discs with light copy protection to take copy protection out of the variables as much as possible. Shrink handled them easily when using the Nero 7 burning ROM. Changing to Nero 8 and leaving everthing else the same, the discs came out flawed when auto burning with the Burning ROM.

I was just about to open a topic about why it burns and no play back
Thanks for opening this up and showing me the same thing I'm seeing
It will play on the PC but not any of my 3 DVD players in my home
I screwed up and burned 4 Disc without looking first thinking the problem was the configuration I set...but it wasn't me...
It's the compatibility..
So I should revert to the Nero 7...WOW!
and I love the new features...

You can record the Shrink output to the hard drive and burn manually with Nero Express. Express is working the way it's supposed to.

I just have one question for you Pacman old pal,
If you have nero anyway why are you using Shrink and not Nero Recode?

I'm mostly doing Shrink to help those needing assistance with the program. Not all versions of Nero have Recode. There's a lot of OEM out there. Some people prefer Shrink over Recode, though they are similar. My pointing out the burning rom problem has nothing to do with personal software preferences. I was just stating it was there because people didn't understand what was happening.

A bit confusing.
What we were talking about is using the Nero burning rom as the supported burner in Shrink. Nero 6 and 7 work. There's something flawed when using Nero 8 in that situation. Manually burning Shrink output with Express will work. But what most people prefer is the automatic burn feature with Shrink activating the burning rom automatically.

You beat me to it. I was gonna ask the same question about Recode. I much prefer it over Shrink except when Recode was not playing well with AnyDVD. That problem has been fixed so maybe the Shrink problem will be also. I use Shrink once in a while still, but do not intend on upgrading to Nero 8; I'm still thrilled with Nero 66018. It does anything I have asked it to do.

I could go even farther and ask why you're using Recode when Rebuilder is on the market, with a free version available. I know part of the answer, don't want to spend the time when the fast and sloppy transcoders work okay at lower compression. Any other reasons? Transcoders can't compare to encoders except at low comprression, then they're mainly acting as rippers. However, I fear we're going off topic since it is a DVD Shrink thread and the author did write the program with the Nero burning rom intended as a supported burner (along with DVD Decrypter and CopyToDVD).
ImgBurn is a viable option in place of the Nero burning software and it's free. Nero 6 can't do DL properly, so it's lacking in comparison to ImgBurn. Nero with it's burning rom and Recode aren't really needed for a good backup. As I've noted before, there's plenty of good freeware to do the job.
LOL And here I set using one of the most expensive set of backup programs available, RB Pro with CCE SP, burning with Nero. SP is the option that drives the price up. I don't think I'd buy it just for doing backups. LOL

@pacman
The product I'm getting from Recode is quick. I would hardly call it sloppy. It looks good on my HD 40". I am satisfied and so far any discs done with Recode has been copyable. I use what I use because I like it, not something else because you like it! I could use anything I wanted to use, pay or free; but I use Recode. Shrink and clonedvd very seldom. Like the infomercials say. I can put two dvds in my benqs and with AnyDVD in the back ground, and SET Recode up in about the time it take s to open the disc, 2 minutes, I push the burn button and FORGET It! It can take 12 minutes at no compression or 45min at 60%. Doesn't matter, I don't even have to be awake or at home.

Thank you, you hit the nail on the head. It's all about user preference. If you want an interesting discussion, go over to the Rebuilder forum here at AD and pose the question: Why is Recode better than RB? You should be in for an interesting conversation. LOL We're going way OT here, the thread concerns Shrink and mention of Nero 8 burning rom not working with Shrink was a heads up.

Hey Pac old buddy,
My question wasn?t to start a heated debate over what is the best method for backing up DVD's as we all know everyone has there preferences. Of course we all know Rebuilder is far superior to any encoders out there (your preaching to the choir). The thread (which you started) was about Shrink not working with Nero 8. So the topic to me was about Shrink and Nero. I was just curious why if you already own Nero 8 wouldn?t you just go ahead and use recode instead of Shrink? They are basically the same type of program, but IMO and I am sure many others Recode is a bit better in the quality department. As far as rebuilder I have the proggie, but have not used it in months mainly due to the time it takes. Recode produces perfect quality backups that look great on my 60" LCD HD TV. If I have a disk which requires a lot of compression (for me 85% is the limit) then I just throw in a dual layer disk. Recode is just easy fast and effective as garmoon has already pointed out. Put Original in DVD ROM drive, Insert blank DVD in your burner hit a couple buttons and presto you have a complete backup in usually less than 10 min. I know you already know all of this though so I am preaching to the choir too :-) So my main point I guess was so what if Nero8 doesn?t work with Shrink just use Recode instead. As we all know the same person that designed Shrink is now the same person working with Nero on recode so just maybe he didn't want it to work with Shrink anymore for some unknown reason? Anyway I was just curious why would you be using Shrink in the first place? That?s all plain and simple and it wasn?t to try and start anything.
Cheers

Don't worry about being "politically correct". I didn't take your comment as starting anything. Discussion gets points of view out on software that would otherwise remain our secrets. As long as we don't get personal and attack each other, no harm/no foul. As for Recode and Shrink, I see them as a pair of clones with little difference than the interface. Recode may be slightly faster using similar settings, but not enough to make a lot of difference. I agree, with Nero 8 not working properly with Shrink, Recode is good for those who like the auto burning feature. Or... you can add ImgBurn with support in Shrink for the best freeware option.
As for time with RB, the best way to work with it is to save your projects and let them run in Batch mode overnight or while you're at work or otherwise away from the PC. You'll find yourself using it more and more when you use that method. With a dual core, you can multi task while letting the batch run. Which I sometimes do. It can slow things down sometimes though.

Bummer...
I'm a refugee from the Digital Digest forum and all talk of programs like Shrink have been banned. I just got a new Vista PC and when I had problems with Nero 7 just went to Nero 8. All my burns have tested fine with the PIE/PIF tests but would not play on my Panasonic DVD player. Some PC video players don't even recognize them while some others do. Burning using Nero Vision works and I isolated the problem to Shrink and I'm not ready to give up on it. I've heard that there's a patch for Nero 7 making it compatible with Vista... so I may just switch back.

I wasn't aware that Nero 7 needed a patch to work with Vista. Nero 8 wasn't available when Vista first hit the market.
Did you read the part about the Nero 8 burning rom and saving to HD and burning with Express?

I like the "bells and whistles", so I'll probably load Nero 8 soon. I really don't need it for Shrink. From the message I got from Nero, they don't care if Nero 8 works with Shrink to autoburn or not. They've got the Shrink clone, Recode, that works for them.

Don't see why they would care about the compatability, as stated Recode is DVD Shrink's big brother all with the same daddy. At this point in the ballgame to get DVD Shrink to continue calling on Nero to burn would require and update from DVD Shrink, and we all know that ain't gonna happen. There is always Imgburn for the DVD Shrink die hards though, and for me it is the preferred burner of the bunch.

NERO, could care less if decrypting software works with it's software. Recently or should I say as of the last model SONY burner 18x which started out with NERO 6 full suite then later models came with NERO 7 essentials that included NERO Recode 2. Now with the new SONY burners 20x both internal and external except for the new external slim burner, come with a trimmed down NERO 7 essentials software disc that no longer includes Recode 2 and only has NERO express which will not compress a DVD-9 or original 8.5GB dual layer movie to a dvd-5 4.7GB blank. Yeah there hip as heck to what their software is being used to for...and though SHRINK had it's origins with NERO as of late it seems as if they are looking to disassociate their software compatibility to decrypting software like SHRINK 3.2 I recently purchased NERO 8 because like anti-virus software NERO seems, heck they do remote sniper multiple NERO software installs under the same software key. Disabling your software once you ever attempt to reinstall the software at a computer that's online. I reinstalled my NERO 7 and NERO performed what I call a dummy install where the end result is your asked to contact NERO online support for help. The entire NERO software agreement script went from the usual black type to red? Stuff's serious. So I broke down and purchased NERO 8 got a $25.00 discount for submitting the key code for my NERO 7 essentials disc that came with my new 20x burner. Purchase came to $65.00. :P
