Just do a search on Google for upgrading to 3.03 0e-b and follow
the instructions. I thing there is an application that will do it for you all you have to do is run the .exe as opposed to manually doing it.
Let me know if you need any help as I have done dozens of these.

as far as i know with 2.71 you have to go up to 3.03 and then down to 1.5 and then do the custom firmware but I am not sure.
Why do you want to keep the 1.5 the way it is?
The custom can do everything the 1.5 can and more and you also have a recovery if you want to get back to 1.5

you can downgrade a 2.71 TA-082 psp with the 2.71 downgrader.
i did that to mines and im in 3.4 cf... and you should upgrade your psp to 3.03 or any custom firmware, itll be worth it...

the above post is wrong. u can in fact have customizations on ur psp and play ps1 games as eboots at the same time. i just did it with mine. apparently if u either change the 01-12 bitmap picture file or u have a custom opening (opening_plugin.rco) then the ps1 game will not load. right now i have cuztom icons, and a better font and im playing a ps1 game. as far as the rest of teh customizable options, i think that most of them work. also, maybe u guys didnt know this but u can actually mix and match different icon sets as long as they are compatible with that firware. for example im running 3.40 oe-a and i have icons from one set, my font is from another set, and my gameboot is from another set. its pretty cool. just thought u guys should know...

u guys want to make sure that you have the driver set to the right setting. i think my psp uses the m33 driver and it works pretty well. like for example my star wars bf2 iso doesnt work unless it is on m33 driver. so try that

Ok. now im totally new to this whole thing, but i want to play my Star Ocean 2 game on my psp. Now ive looked at a whole bunch of guides and a lot of em dont make too much sense to me. Can someone please explain how to do this to me? Also, I really have practically no idea how one would even hack a psp, let alone what the version means or ANYTHING.
like i said, totally new.
thx

Ok, heres what I can say.
The PSP is on version 3.51 and I honestly don't know what an iso or pbp is. I get the feeling that the version is going to mess things up but I might be able to fix that (as in get a different psp).
Anyways, Star Ocean 2 is a ps1 game. Ya, thats about all I know. lol
srry for being so clueless.

its okay for being a newb. everyone starts there. ok so heres what you need to do. the first thing you need to do is to downgrade ur psp to firmware 1.50 using a pandoras battery. despite the fact that many will tell you that u need to sodder stuff and break bateries apart and put them back together you dont. there is a way to create a pandoras battery without modding it. its a long process but i will give you the stuff you need. i cant do it on this site tho. u really want psp magic.

ok. and if i have a sick site that i think people should join. like im seriously not a moderater on the other site or anything. in fact my NEWBIE status is there too cuz i just joined it, how would i tell him about that. i mean if its good material then doesnt it make sense to share it. not trying to argue or anything, but it just seems kinda wierd to me. i thought the object of this forum was to help anyone with a psp problem...

Well if you have a 'sick' site I'd probably steer clear cause who knows what we could catch :)
When you post for other members here to join another site that's going a bit to far esp. since you are telling them you would help them at the other site.
Why steer people to another site if the same info can be found here.
If there's a guide or something that the other site has that's more helpful or not here then post it.
If you were running a forum would you want members posting to go to another site instead for help ?
Does that make sense?

if u go to google and search for i think its how to make a pnadoras battery, you can find guides on how to make them. find the one that doesnt require you to sodder anything or take apart the battery and downgrade ur psp. if u follow the directions carefully then you should be able to do it and then once u do it reply so i can tell u what to do next

i am really new to all this firmwaer stuff but all i want to do is play ff7,8 and 9 on my psp...so..in the past few days ive downgraded my psp to 1.50...i then upgraded to 3.03 oeA...i ripped the first disc of my original ff7 game with clone cd and it left me with 3 files...1 called image.ccd, another called image.sub, and another called image.img...i got popstation and used it on the correct image file (as when i browsed it would only show up one of the files for me to choose) and it left me with an eboot.pbp and a keys.bin...i then went onto my psp memory card.....memorycard/psp/game. where i created a new empty folder called ff7 and pasted the eboot.pbp and keys.bin into it...i tried running this game on my psp and it started off looking good...the screen appeard with the original sony logo on the black background...then the screen went black and a message appeard saying "the game could not be started" (80010002). does anyone know why i have this problem and how i can solve it?

actually u dont wanna be on 3.03 or whatever u siad u were on. its better to just upgrade. and the ps1 games freeze much less on higher cfws. for example when i played ff7 on 3.40oe-a, it glitched so much that i couldnt get past certain bosses. upgrade to the latest (i think its 3.72 m33-3, i havent checked in a while) and also about the problem ur having. i honestly have no idea. once u see the original playstation logo that means the game has already loaded and running so thats an issue i cant help you with. but yea, upgrade ur psp. if u want to play the ps1 games without glitches
