MGRAY09: burn a dvd movie on the +R or +RW and check to see if your PS2 can play it. If it does, then I guess w/ the flip top u can play +R/RW backups.

Hi I'm really new here so sorry if I make any mistakes or bring up old news. I recently broke my ps2 with the stupid slide card and now my cd tray won't open with the cd magic swap cd v3.0 stuck inside. If the laser is still working do you think I could use the ps2 perfectly by just installing the flip top? The front of my cd tray is now in shambles after my futile attempts to force the tray open.

My guess is probably not because it sounds like cd drive has veered of course and the spinner is therefore jamed and will not even be able to spin the disc. Not to mentioned the laser is incorrectly positioned. Probably the best thing to do is take the cover of your ps2, take of the cd/dvd drive cover and then try to re-align your cd/dvd drive.

Alright, I just installed my fliptop yesterday, but it makes a lot of noise. The only way to get rid of it is to put a small book on top of the ps2.
Is that normal?

Did the flip top package come with a small book?to put on top of the cover?
Cuz if it didn't, I don't think it's normal to need one.
(Sorry, I just couldn't resist...)

^um, no it didn't come with a small book.
Haha.
Gee, someone from the gamefaqs boards said I screwed it on too tight, so I loosened it, and the noise was still there. So..I put some weight on it and the noise went away.

K, nvm, I got it to work. Btw, this won't ruin the ps2's laser right? I just backed up Splinter Cell and played it using CD Loader and stuff. But now, when I boot in the original, it loads a little slower at the boot up. Then again, it's been doing that on and off for a while on my other games too. I guess it's time to clean the gears.

I just got my fliptop w/ swap magic disks from http://gocybershop.ca . They have great prices($30US) and free UPS shipping to Canada and the US.
I had the same problem when I installed the fliptop...there was a loud scratching noise that was caused by the disk spinning. From what I have read, DO NOT put any sort of weight on it or your drive motor will get damaged!
I fixed the problem:...on the fliptop cover take out the white magnetic disk and there should be two very small screws holding the white disk in place. Loosen the screws(not too much, they are short). Put the white disk back and try again until the noise disappers...this will lower the white disk so the magnet can completely stick. The noise comes from the white disk rubbing inside the bottom of the holder. Lowering it just a touch will give it more room.
Try it out and let me know if it works.

^THanks a lot! It worked! Now there's no more noise!
BTW, using a fliptop with the swap magic discs to play backups and imports won't ruin the ps2 laser will it?

I have loosen all the screws and its still getting stuck, I even removed all the screws just to make sure one of the screws wasn't lined up correctly with the mount, and it still having the same problem.
I originally thought it was because the white disk on the lid was getting caught with the cd tray but that?s also not the problem, because I removed the white disk and the tray still keeps getting stuck on its way out. The problem is the mount that the white disk connects to, because the tray opens and closes without problem if I keep the lid partially up or completely up.
The lid mount is what is getting caught on the the ps2 base mount (spinner) that holds the bottom magnet, the flip top mount seems to be too low. When you eject the cd tray, that spinner normally drops below the tray level so the tray can slide out unobstructed but with the flip top it doesn?t drop.
I put the original top back on and its works perfectly, my friend reinstalled the flip top this time for me just to make sure I wasn?t doing something wrong and the tray is still getting stuck. I would prefer to use the cd tray when playing original games. He has a v7 ps2 with a flip top and the tray on his works correctly with his flip top, but mine only opens correctly if the top is partially/completely open which is a pain with you go to change disks and the cd is spins out of control.
My ps2 is a v10, has anyone installed a flip top on a v10 ps2 without any problems. (i.e tray getting stuck) or does someone know if flip top are incompatible with v10 ps2 or if I have a poorly made lid. I bought it from PS2fliptops.com, I emailed them but the only solution they offered was to loosen the screws, but the screws are not the problem.
Any suggestions??

I have a V9 and got the cover from the same place and sometimes have that problem. Loosening the screws does help because it'll keep the magnet higher. Then again why even use the tray?! Do you know by not using it you prolongs your systems life ( well at least the tray motor)

Hey, let's see if anyone can help me. I backed up T.H.U.G. successfully and played it a couple of times, but as time went on the loading got slower and slower until it didn't load anymore. I'm on a V5, has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions? Thanks

You mean like a disc read error? Clean your lens and that should fix the problem.
Do your other games boot ok? (I'm talking about your originals)

Just remember there are 3 different companies that make solid color flip-top 8 screw version v4-v10 and they are all different case.
Only one company that make 10 screw version v1-v3
Only one company that make multiple color transparent case
So, if you top making noise, it depends on
1) where you purchase from
2) which version of flip=top (mostly version v9)
3) ...
