I don't recommend purchase from Fliptopcover.com now Saveware.com. They send me the original style case instead of the Flip Top that I ordered. I contacted the owner and shipping vice precident through 2 emails in the last 5 days and no response. It looks like I will have to deal with PAYPAL if they are not reponse in the next 3 days.

Allright, well i went with your guys advice and i bought the flip top with the swap magic disks I have a PS2 Version 5 (USA). I have attempted to backup quite a few games, 20+ so far, and none of them has worked! I get the same screen everytime. After iam told to enter the disk i press X, and then a little orange border goes around the screen and sits there until i decide to turn it off!! I have used Record Now, Nero, Alcohol 120% and DVD Dycrypter!! I Have tried Memorex DVD+/DVD-, Imation DVD+/DVD-, Sony DVD-/DVD+, and TDK DVD+/DVD-. I am using a 1.8Ghz Pentium 4 with 1GB ram. and a Pacific Digital 4X Dual Format DVD+/-RW Drive. Could i be getting these results because i have a cheap DVD writer (works great for movies, never had a bad burn) and if so what do you guys recommend, maybe an Iomega or a Sony or TDK. Im getting the Sony Today. Somebody please help!!!

I've had a ftop for a year now. Awesome [sorry for rubbin it in] Any way, you've got a real prob on your hands. Usually there are no probs even for a newbie like I was then. I did have a few bad burns at first using crappy software and media, but from then on it's about 99% perfect! So just keep buggin people here--they know all!--until you get a solution, as it can be different for different peoples. But once you find the answer, it's 99% from there...

My FlipTop rules:
1. ALWAYS use DVD Decrypter for absolutely everything PS2-wise. Easy and smooth.
2. Use Swap Magic v2 CD/DVD discs. Version 3 Swap Magic discs had many problems when released and actually were worse quality-wise than old v2.
3. Ask questions at AfterDawn.com. They're friggin geniouses.
4. Hardware goes a long way. So does media. Invest in Plextor or LITEON DVD/CD burner. AfterDawn has many topics on quality media. Search for both...

You said that DVD Decrypter did not work. For me that puts up a big red flag. It is near PERFECT with quality media and hardware. So my solution for you: get a good burner and use AfterDawn recommended media. If you want to keep your games a few years with no corruption, etcetera, you'll need both in the long run anyway.

Hmmm... true it can take a bit of testing before it works but I would've thought that after all the things you have tried that something would've worked by now. Make sure that when you put in your backups that it doesn't get caught on the back lip and that the white disc get completely connected to the spinner.

Well thanks to all the help i finally successfully burned a working DVD..Red Dead Revolver. Works 100% and even loaded my saved turn. I used DVD Decryptor and i stuck with the Memorex - Disc. I did reduce mt read/write speed to 1X. but saving the wasted disk was worth the extra 30 minutes, and to think i was about to give up. I can now say i love my flip top. I am going to go invest in a better DVD burner. Thankyou everyone!!!

Red Dead Revolver: That game any good?
And heck yeah, once you get rollin with the fliptop it's frickin awesome! Sweet dude

DVDD v3.2.2.0 and Memorex DVD+R is exactly what I've been using for about 3-4 months. Nice!

One more thing: Do your Swap Magic version 3 discs work good? I heard the bugs MAY be out of them by now.[I assume you have SMD 3 discs]

Yeah the games pretty tight, not my favorite but it was a good test since its only 2.7GB, a game like GTA Vice City is 4.1GB. I am now successfully burning at 2X using some SONY DVD-, they were about 2 bucks a pop so im glad they work good. I have also now burned
NFS-Underground, and SpyHunter2 with no apparent problems. Good Times!!!

O yeah my SM disc for DVDs is the 2.0 USA Edition and the 3.0 for for CD-R. Although im old school at heart, i still havnt tried any CD-R's. The DVD playback capability is just so freakin sweet.

I am glad you got it working rckstr! Burning at a slow speed does make a big difference especially on a non solder-chiped system.

Hi, I just ordered my ps2 flip top cover from consolesource.com.
I was wondering, what's the success rate of the flip top cover? Is it better than a mod chip? Also, what games cannot be backed up? I heard that Splinter Cell and Hitman 2 can't for some reason (from the earlier pages)
Oh, and does anyone have a site that lists all the ps2 backups and imports that are able to run with the flip top?
Thanks, all replies are greatly appreciated.

I was wondering if the Flip top cover supports DVD+R's because I cannot burn DVD-R's. I really hope they can. By the way, anyone know a good place to order them? Anyone tried http://www.citywidesolutions.com - ? (its in canada)

Or anywhere here in the U.S?

Thanks all!

If you have a version 5+ (and some version 4's) then you can use dvd+r. A good place to buy the fliptop is modchipkits.com

Just watch out. I burned Kill.Switch on a Sony DVD+R (purple cover) and it went bad after about ONE month! It worked perfectly at first... FUJI +Rs and Memorex +Rs have worked pretty well for me with DVDD.

I recommend PS2FlipTop.net: http://www.ps2fliptop.net/index.htm
Their site doesn't LOOK the best, but "don't judge a site by it's homepage." They overnighted my top and discs for FREE as a surprise to customers that week when I purchased. Great quality tops, too, still no problems.

yes, I agreed their does not look attractive http://www.ps2fliptop.net/index.htm They responded to email within hour on me, when I had issues they are very easy to deal with in exchange or refund. My recommended is they have two locations to ship from one is in West coast and 2nd one in Central region. So, just pay for ground shipping (the cheapest method) it will deliver within 3 business day. All my friends and I ordered about dozen times they all delivered in 2 -3 business days(paid with ground shipping cost)

I would recomend Using DVD-R because they are more compatible then + and PS2 wasn't really made to read + until V9 came out.
I have a Q about Software. My friend said he knows someone that is able to make working backups from backups. I thought that wasn't possible but he says the guys not Bullshitting him. He said he uses MYDVD or some program to that extent. I've never heard of it nor seen it so does anyone here use it at all? If so where can I get a copy and does making backups or backups work with that prog or any other that people my know of.

It's a 50% chance. Some version 4's read dvd+r and some don't. Try it and hope it works.

Hey everyone,
I run http://www.swapnslide.com. I have fliptop covers for $30. Shipping is INCLUDED with any purchase from my site. I have slide card/swap magic combo's for $24. I ship Same day or next (depending on what time the order is placed.) I've been to alot of other sites to compare prices and I think I have the best deals. Modchip.com for example wouldn't even link to me because my stuff is so much cheaper.

^I'm pretty sure it can.
What I really want to know is how reliable these things are. I've heard certain backups won't work on them.

Those would be the backups with the double boot check. However you can get to play with the cdloader.
