I still think Nguyen's method works. It sounds like it does too. The d2ckeys work with the game, and they have newer region free coding, so the older ones can't break the new protection. However, the original poster posted a disc swap method. If you remember, it was previously possible to play japanese gamecube games on the wii without any kind of modchip by swapping discs. They later fixed this with a patch, but I don't think they fixed the ability, they just made it so the timing is different and u cant eject the disc and put in a new one as fast as was required. However, perhaps the 1.9g disc basically reenables the feature of the disc swap, allowing it to work?

The big question that comes to MY mind is... Will the game even be able to be Ripped into a proper .iso ? Especially if LG drives aren't working...
I guess by the time the NTSC version hits we should hopefully be a little more prepared for all of these new quirks. It all just really blows though to tell you the truth I was really hoping to have the downloading going by tonight.

I saw a picture online of someone who installed their chip and had the switch sticking out one of the game cube memory card slots. It left that slot unuseable but how often do you use the second slot.
I'm willing to add a switch to play the game but I'd rather not. Hopefully there will be another wiikey update.
side note: whatever happeend to the wiikey website? Its been down for months. The team is still around at least, right?

I agree...I'm worried that they've ditched us. If their site was still around I wouldn't be worried but who knows. Perhaps someone else will pick up the project.

Quote: Here is the info
I'm writing it once, so copy and paste it where ever someone write about it.
Wiikey team is still alive, but they will no longer have a website, unless they decide to at a later date.
No website DOES NOT MEAN NO SUPPORT, so stop stressing out and emailing everyone about it. They will bring out update if they are needed on scene sites like wiinewz.com.
People want a website for comfort, and more updates? Updates for what?
The product does not need to be updated right now...and when it does need to be updated, it will.
1.9 will always be in BETA.
What is D2CKey? D2ckey is wiikey strapped to a diff board working differently. D2cey will soon be updateable
Why is it down?
Modchip are illegal now in HK, thats where it was hosted. All the downtime before was from DDOS attacks from other teams.
Ok cool?
done. finished.

Quote: WiiKey Website
In early January 2008, the official Wiikey website was taken offline, and has remained offline since then. This has led many to believe that the modchip was abandoned by the development team. It has been reported that the team stated they were forced to take the site offline as a result of multiple hackers targeting the site, and it became unmaintainable. Development on the WiiKey would supposedly continue, however.

Does the wiikey even support dual layered disks? According to the cycloWiz page it doesn't: http://www.cyclopswiz.com/
click on their comparison chart...

Early firmware versions of the wiikey didnt support DL media, but that support was added in the 1.9b update.

Can Someone please try Nguyen's method at getting Brawl to work with WIIKEY!? Nguyen has made previous posts on this forum, and he doesn't sound like a liar, so I think his method works.
Originally posted by LilNguyen: "Well guys,
I'm very happy to say that I have gotten the copy (real one from Japan), they hit store shelves about a day early and has just arrived with my really fast expresso shipping (cost me 72.89). I was pretty happy when I recieved it in the mail and quickly put it in my Wii, after about 30 seconds of waiting, I took the disc out. From there, I tried my own experience. I popped in the Configuration Disc, and turned my disc speed to 3X and still left region override on. I restarted the console and put in the old SMG update disc (1.9g) when it said "Put in Super Mario Galaxy." I put in SMG but then quickly swapped it with Brawl. I was supprised! I thought I was just fooling around to make it work, but it did! Too bad I won't be home for now. Work >.>
Reply,
if you need anything POST!"

We have no proof that it works, and no proof that it doesn't. Not only did the guy on Youtube only try one method, he also has a D2C Wii, which could affect the results. I've heard people say Brawl works on an NTSC-U Wii with Wiikey, but only for certain consoles. Everything's really mixed. Hopefully someone will confirm one side or the other.
And if it doesn't work, hopefully the online community will find a work around. I'm relying on that, as I'm in the "I bought Brawl and a Wiikey" boat (I knew there was risk of it not working initially).
Nguyen: it would be wicked if you showed us some proof, if you happen to stumble upon this.

I may be totally off-base here but when I read that cyclowiz page someone posted it mentioned something about dual layer disks.
"The laser power may have to be tuned before beeing able to read DVD+R DL media (as with DVD-RW media). Less than 50% of test Wii we have can read those discs without any tuning. There is a variable resistor on the optical pickup head itself, that needs to be lowered. In our tests, the original value was typically around 700-800 Ohm, and we had to lower it to around 500 Ohm, but this might be different on each drive."
This might have nothing to do with SSBB at all but I just thought I'd point it out. Maybe if someone has the game and a chipped wii they can try turning the resister down slightly and see if it makes a difference.
