Depending on which report you read it could go either way. There are claims of people using the WiiKey dumper that has produced working rips of it as a single layer, and some that have just read the raw data on the disk at close to 8gb. But at the same time those same people that claim to the 8gb size believe that the second layer to be almost nothing but padding.
I?m starting to bet my initial guess is true. That the Dual Layer disk is in fact nintendo?s new copy protection.

WiiNewz contacted the Wiikey Team in regards to compatibility issues with "Super Smash Brothers Brawl." Here are their exclusive comments...
It has just been made aware to us that SSB does not work with wiikey.
We are looking into it and are also working on a dual layer disc
dumper, so that any update hopefully will be compatible with a backup
of the game.

You will almost certenly need a DL DVD to burn it. I say almost because I know with PS2 games it was possable to 'shrink and flatten' the image by removing cutscenes and filler data and then reformatting it to a single layer. However this only worked on some games and was a totally different platform so I seriously doubt it'll work on this game.
True, but the PS2 was not as well designed of a console. Even the crappiest Wii game has cleaner code than a PS2 game. Not at any fault of the developer but the fault of Sony for making a POS development kit.

Heres the thing about the ripping though, if a person can play say vs mode or something from a single layer why not put that out there for now to get us started along with a big sign of what the problem is with the .iso. At least with that we could A: perhaps play a little bit even if its only (ha only) with the bazillion initial characters you get in the game and B: Might help people get a feel for any of the other protections on the Disk....
Might be a bit of a stretch but its just random musings.

Id be down for that but I can see from a responsible rippers thinking why that would possibly catastrophically bad. That puts a bad image out there that has all right right headers on it. When the fakes came out people were able to DL a very small chunk of it and read the header and know it was Mario Strikers Charged and whatever the other fake was. If it reads properly as Brawl no one could really tell if they had a correct ISO or not till someone DLed it. Possibly going through a ton of disks and many hours of downloading for nothing. I?m sure Nintendo would get a huge laugh out of it, but we wouldn?t lol.

Sounds like propaganda. =\
Honestly you can sniff that stuff out so easily, the idea of any asian community having a 14.4 modem or something just sounds nuts to me. But hey, whos to truly say right?

Thats probably a bad telephone interpretation of the guy I mentioned in an earlier post who is also from taiwan. He was very specific that he ripped pretty much the whole game but when he would get to certain parts he would get a disk read error. (he mentioned specificly running into an error when trying the story mode.)

Yeah I was thinking about that too honestly.... Still. The urge to play the game is so bad for me (which I should mention I havent been this anxious for a game since Ocarina of Time, so it literally feels like im a kid right now.) that I know if I go to my university and try to get a project done my mind will just not be dedicated to that right now.
It's bad I can't believe its so bad honestly.

I?m really the same way. (Though I?m at my office with that feeling.) But its nice to feel that way. That?s why I think I am not fretting the delay much. Its fun to feel like a kid again really. When you get older and become a working stiff you don?t really get that feeling. If you want a game, you go and get it after work and sit down and play. With Smash I just can?t wait to get it. I know that I can?t just walk out and get it. I think its that feeling of having to wait till you get taken to get it kind of feeling. Also knowing all of the people that will get together and play. Some of which I haven?t seen in ages all because of something as stupid as a game. For me this is a really big deal. Kind of like the gathering of pirates in the third PotC flick.

I agree thats probably what im not anxious to get going, a bunch of friends over who don't usually hang out as often but will just for this game. We're all getting busier now so its not as easy to get a group of these older friends together to head to the bar, some of them have kids. But theres no denighing how pumped we all are about the idea of playing this game a month before it even comes out. :P

I also agree with that feeling. I bought my wii over a year ago and have had a TON of fun playing zelda, metroid prime 3, wario ware, mario galaxy, no more heroes... even rehashed old games like resident evil 4 and some old gamecube gems like pikmin and lost kingdoms have found new life on my wii.
But this is THE game that I bought the console for. Playing melee together with my friends are some of the best memories of high school I have. I dont live near any of my old high school friends anymore but when we talk we still refrence things from that game (oh, I guess that land mine was still there!) I'm really looking forward to playing the game with them again, online this time.

We need to inact a rule, no more videos of Brawl working on various chips unless.
a) Its one proving they have a burn of Brawl
b) Its Brawl working on a standard WiiKey
c) It?s a Burn Of Brawl working on a WiiKey.

some guy in irc. But anyway, I think its great to finally know officially that Wiikey team is still supporting us, they are making a brawl patch, AND they are making a Dual Layer Dumper so that people can rip Brawl.

Guys FFS stop asking people to dump it, they physically can't. The LG drives don't work and neither does the Wii backup with the 1.3 config disc, but as stated before the WiiKey team are working on a new update and a DUAL LAYER DISC DUMPER!
