Damn, I tried freeing up CPU power by eliminating a bunch of programs. Then I ran defragmenter on all drives and ripped the movie again with DVDdecrypter. It didn't change the result, but the strange thing is that CCE worked when I accidentialy unmarked the audio track of the movie in Rebuilder ??
Btw, when it worked, the files I got in video_ts catalog were only 1,8gb of size. I found this a bit strange since the audio track is only 700mb, so since I forgot checking this in builder it should be about 3,5gb after processing. Right?
Dunno whats going on here..
I'll try finding an older ver. of CCE Basic, as you also suggested, and make further attempts until I get it right ;)

At least your looking, and the important thing is that you've overcome a hurdle. The final file size shoulc be 4.3 gigs.
Let us know how it all works out.

Seems the ver. of Basic I used is not to recommend. The results I finally got looked gorgeous! Nearly a perfect duplicate of the orginal downscaled from 6,9GB. It was impossible to notice pixelation issues even on close observation, wohooo! Talk about CCE power.
But I ran into some trouble with Alien Directors Cut/Theatrical release. Since this is an interleaved movie, I tried using decrypters multi angle processing feature. I kept angle 1. It didn't work, CCE still gave me the warning message. Should I ignore it and let CCE go to work, despite the warning, or is there another program/tool option for multiangle discs?

Glad to hear about your success, welcome to the club.
Since this is an interleaved movie, I tried using decrypters multi angle processing
I ran into the same problem with the movie DareDevil, it was an interleaved multi angled movie as well. I over came the problem by editing the film with DVDremake.
Go to this thread and you'll learn a little more about dealing with those difficult movies.

Thanks for the thread :)
Remake looks like a smooth editing tool. Reminded me of Adobe ImageReady editing..when you try to figure out motions and actionfunctions to your web designs etc.

Just wanted to keep you on track with the rest of us. You'd requested my home theatre specs the other day because you were currious as to how I judged quality. I judge it mostly on my computer not going into individual specs I will simplify. I use a Viewsonic P225f 22 inch screen and I have a HIS excalibur IceQ ATI 9800 pro card. At 1600 by 1200 my refresh rate is 85 Hz. After I've finished encoding a movie I play it back on my computer and then I increase the vieo size until it becomes pixilated. I can then use that to determine what size of screen will reveal its flaws. If it passes then I burn it.

rj-x,
try using CCE version 2.67 instead of 2.69. I know it sounds crazy, but I could absloutely not get RB/CCE to work properly, especially with DVDRemake until I changed. Since I changed I have only had 1 coaster, and that was my fault in Remake with The Butterfly Effect which has that infinifilm feature with the widescreen version on a flipper disc.
There is an address in this thread I believe to download it.(or one of the RB/CCE/Remake threads)
PS-couldn't bring up your screenshot, dead link?
GO VOLS !

I think it tagged a [/url] to the end, try removing that or copy/paste the url.
other than that, im a newb n stuff so not sure what a flipper disc is, and all that, but am trying something i saw on a doom9 post about the decodefix file thing there being an old ver and causing the #004. So we'll see, if that's not it, i'll downgrade and try.
Otherwise I may just purchase instantcopy as it seems you guys seem to really like it (see i been reading a bunch of the other forums ;) )
I think if i understood the process a bit more and what files are doing what and what stages are doing what, would help. I just figured i'd try a guide before learning exactly what every step is doing. and which files are for what.
also i find funny, is being a unix sysadmin, i consider myself pretty technically sound, then jump into something new like dvd downsampling/encoding and it's like this whole new world of info i have no idea about ;)
you guys seem extremely friendly though, so thanx for that in advance.

rj-x, I am a huge fan of IC 8, it is a little slower at 1 1/2 to 2 hours(still way faster than RB/CCE), but it's quality is awesome. It also works real well with DVDRemake especially since I don't care for IC 8's re-authoring(i seem to get jerkiness with it in some edits). It is also very reasonalble at 25.00.
That being said, you owe it to yourself to get RB/CCE up and running. On a 3 to 4 hour movie, I haven't seen anything touch it, except dual layer. LOL The author of the guide is in this forum and between him and the rest of us you should be up and running in no time.
It's good to have both, IC 8 for 2 1/2 or less and RB/CCE for 3 hours and more. They actually compliment each other.
One last note, The new Shrink is gonna be very impressive using the new 2 pass deep analysis mode, I think you will be very surprised and pleased. So, that's another option.
I think that's it except for: Welcome to AD and it's nice to see someone read the posts before they just jump in asking questions willy nilly. You are a rare breed!
Of note: a flipper is a disc that has both sides of the disc with video on it. Usually a different screen format, ie. fullscreen (4:3) on one and widescreen(16:9) on the other, or main movie on one and extras on the other, etc.
Good luck!!

oooh yes, will be interesting to see the new shrink, it's what i been using up till now but noticed on large encodes it gets a bit pixelated, so wanted to try something better.
I pretty much have this machine dedicated for backing up dvd/cd media and edit'ing. It was built with this stuff in mind (2 procs etc)
as for instantcopy, im trial'ing it and it's bitching about css protection? hrmmm i mean i own the dvd, wondering how i get around this? would i have to use decrypter then go from hard disk to image? blah an extra step ;)... shrink is nice cuz i can pop a disk in and walk away and come back to it done...
and yeah i still wanna get it working with CCE, i may try to duplicate the setup on this machine and see if i can get it working (i have a few machines to try it out on)
You think I should start a new thread w/ my prob to attract attention? or should I just keep at it here? don't wanna cause too much ruckus, but would really like to figure out where im going wrong.
Thanks man!

Before you stop trying go ahead and use 2.67 with rebuilder and start the process from scratch. Don't reauthor with any programs yet. Just try to get rebuilder working. You can get to version 2.67 from the CCE basic page.

Ok now for trying instantcopy 8... is it true they havent came out with anything since december last year? I went to check the update and that was the last update.
Are you using
DVDDecrypt -> dvdremake -> instantcopy
and are you using instantcopy to burn? or saving as image and burning w/ something else?
just curious of some suggestions for best quality, time isnt much of a factor since this is a dedicated machine.
and yes i still want to get CCE/Rebuilder to work ;)

@rj-x Are you using DVD Remake before DVD-RB. If so I think somebody on Doom9 was able to solve his problems by opening the output from Remake with DVD Shrink and then saving with no compression, using Shrink's output for DVD-RB's source. For some reason DVD-RB didn't have problems with the DVD after that.

Im not using remake at all yet, wanted to do a raw full movie successfully before I started playing.
I've taken most of the normal suggestions into play like increasing page file etc. Also loaded the AVS files in avisynth after they were dvddecrypt'ed and all seem to play fine.
so I'm really stumped..

I just looked at your screen shot.
To get this far your setup would need to be correct.
That leaves the source file that was ripped and CCE.
I am using Anydvd to rip on the fly with rebuilder if I choose to skip reauthoring. Get the demo if you don't have it so we can be on the same page.
I downloaded the 2.67 CCE basic from the CCE basic website. You have to put in your serial to download but the install is easy. You will need to redirect the rebuilder window to the 2.67 folder.
This doesn't cost anything and matches what I am doing so if anything is different we can find it.
Since all 3 of my machines are Athlon duallies we should be able to pin everything down.
I use shrink to rip most of the time. DVDdecrypter should work fine but it doesn't match what I am doing at this time.

Ok not to be naive, but what is the process of using anydvd? Before I go grab it I just want to know exactly what I'll be using it for? replacement for DVD Decrypter?
Thanks In advance, and im getting a 2.6.7 version of basic as well

AnyDVD allows your transcoder/encoder to ignore copyguards that prevent many applications from being able to copy (on the fly) directly. It isn't always faster, it isn't better than DVD Decrypter, and it costs $40. You decide I own it and so do several others here at AD, but that's not an endorsement. Its a matter of choice.

gotcha so using it, it seems I can just copy the files on the dvd to the HD and it will auto-decrypt on the way there?
