I could not find similar error, reported by anyone else. I even printed the guide just to be sure that I was following it properly.
I guess I will have to try another movie....then see if I get the same error.

I've received the same error before, I don't remember the exact movie though. It was due to incomplete copy protection removal or corruption of the files during removal (it seems the same issue to me). Review the methods that worked in this thread for successful backup of the movie. I think I may have mentioned War. I don't remember if I used AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter or DVDFab HD Decrypter to rip that one. That was before some of the latest updates. Check it for compliance with the Quick Analysis in DVD Shrink. If it doesn't open, then process with FixVTS. I did a Full DVD backup of the movie; so I know it's doable. Make sure you're using the latest version of DVDFab HD Decrypter or AnyDVD when doing the copy.

ZoSoIV & Pacman,
Thanks to you & all the posts here I did manage to backup the movie. Finally!!!
I do have the latest DVDFab Decrypter 4 but I guess I should have paid more attention to some ones post/guide about turning autorun off. I tried that, reboot, then followed bbmayo's guide step by step, just like the last time. It worked yippee....
Now just a question...I would like to have a more traditional menu etc, for now the first 17 seconds of the movie are just a blank screen then the lionsgate logo comes on and the movie begins....Do I have to backup the full disc or can I just eliminate the extras, while keping the title menu same?
Once again thank you guys.

you should be able to keep the meun and main title by highlighting both, then check and uncheck the audio you want

The short answer, yes. Unless the picture quality is poor, I wouldn't worry about it. Have you tried clicking Disc on your remote (to bring up the Play menu) or next icon to zip past the blank area? Usually when I do a copy, I let the software remove the PUOs that prevent jumping forward on the retail disc.

Without having to reauthor the movie? Will give it try...I just thought about this, I should have tried to pick the beginning and end as mentioned in a post earlier.
Thanks for your suggestion.
Has anyone of the 'old-hands' tried dvd flick?
I saw it in one of the threads and was curious....
Take care guys gotta go see my newly backed-up 'WAR'

He wanted to delete the extras, not select audio for the menus and movie.
crz4mov
The way to edit in Full Disc is highlight the video files not wanted (Extras) and select Still Image in the compression settings under Video. That inserts a low content still image to replace the much larger Extras files. That way you can use Shrink for movie and menus only. As you may know, editing with Re-author leaves you with a nonfunctioning menu.
Here's a picture of the process. It saves about 1600MB toward lessening the compression in War.

Clicking the AD link gives a good description:
Quote: DVD Flick uses several external program to convert and encode various PC video formats to a DVD.
A converter, where programs like Shrink, Recode, and others transcode. It has the ability to encode, but it's not as friendly as a program like Shrink, which is specific for that purpose.
I checked dvd flick out once. It didn't rate keeping with all the software I already have. For AVI I prefer ConvertXtoDVD or Nerovision. Shrink is better if all you want to do is transcode. I prefer encoding with RB.

Thanks to the forum for your reponses. I got email notices, but did not see the current threads until I was hit "reply" to advise. I made sure to check the spam box first before whining:). Got a couple of more questions:(1). I have a legal FAB PLATINUM 3.0.4.0. bundled in my software, from 2 years ago, licensing belonging to the vendor under a his/her screenname. I got a request for a "crash analysis" report for Fengtao, with "Rush 3". I cancelled the "report" because I had a concern for the licensee and I did not want any unnecssary [personal] attention. I have not had a need to attempt updating FAB3 as I have had the use of DVDDC/Shrink/Nero and more recently RI4M using IMGBurn instead of Nero. Should I just leave FAB3 alone and go with the [current] software available{the free Beta or paid version? (2)For wise and effective use of money, between Anydvd and DVDFAB PLAT, which might be the better way to go and is there a way for someone, a RI4M user, to legally get either software. Otherwise it looks as if I may have to get the "free" Fab and mail him copies of the guides. (3) Is there some reason why RI4M will work, for me, on "WAR" and "3:10.." while it seems that it doesnt for other users?Being digitally deficient, I make a point to read all the threads, first(I feel a tendancy of Info overload} and I may be, at times, asking the same questions, but bear with me 'cause sooner or later it will finally stick. Thanks again to all. Now I have to get ready to take the wife out.

both anydvd and dvfab platinum are great right now its less expensive to own dvdfab platinum than anydvd since they switched to the euro. dvdfab decrypter does the exact same thing as the platinum version other than its not a one click and doesn't have some of the features like converting video to I-Pod and such.
ripit4me still works if you know how to use it right (removing the < > as of late on most titles) does the trick.I think at this point its just alot easier to use dvdfab decrypter, fixvts, dvd shrink and imgburn than to mess with ripit4me. bottom line theres several options on backing up your dvds freeware and pay programs you should get to know both

You forgot to mention the 40% hike in the price. I find that more important than the currency change. ;)

I'm not saying be a pirate, but if you're looking at legal programs, stop doing DVD backups. LOL Many of us find current laws dealing with the situation ambiguous or just downright wrong; so feel we have the right to back up DVDs that we've purchased. That said, go with the DVDFab HD Decrypter if you're worried about trying to update the old copy of Platinum you're using. That goes double if you want the best all in one program available. It doesn't cost all that much, so you could get a copy of your own. Seems Slysoft has been slow the last while in getting the needed updates out while DVDIdle has been getting the job done faster. DVDFab has also been doing most of the compliance processing internally so FixVTS hasn't been needed as often.
Don't throw the RI4M away yet. There's still only just a few movies it can't do on its own. As for the brackets, it processes those on its own when using the 1-Click mode. However, there are a couple of releases it can't start to open, 1-Click or Wizard. If it can't open, it simply can't process the files.

You can choose freeware or indulge in some of the retail programs. If you want free, DVDFab HD Decrypter to clean up the decryption and copy protection, DVD Shrink to transcode (shrink to DVD5), and ImgBurn to burn the output. You're not going to do a lot better with the retail apps. Some may have an easier interface and be faster, but the end product won't be noticably better, if you use the software correctly. That's for transcoders. Encoders are better, especially for high compression copies.
i use dvd shrink and whatnot, but when i load it in shrink it says too large for dvd, is there some way to make it compress it more? when i slide the little bar, it gets bigger, not smaller. :(
-sorry for bein a noob ha.

As I noted in my previous post, the problem most often occurs when you haven't removed all the copy protection or the files have become damaged and noncompliant during the copy protection removal process. As ZoSoIV pointed out once again, once you get the files decrypted, you may need to use FixVTS to process the files for structural compliance. I don't think it can be stated much more plainly than that. Once you have the copy protection removed and the files processed for structural compliance (we call that "cleaned" files), the trancoding software should work properly and the rest of the process should be easy. As has been stated more times than I want to count, getting a clean source is the most important part of doing a copy.

I have seen mention of the brackets. Not being as astute, as I should be, where would I see them during the process and do you have a screen shot that I might be able to copy, print and mail to my fellow offine user.
Rest assure, I'm not letting go of RI4M, yet. For the price, I am not an unhappy camper.

You see it anywhere the title shows up, from My Computer to your backup software. There's not many releases using brackets on the title, but anyone doing backups needs to be aware of it.
