I need some help. I'm trying to get my saved games transferred from my memory card to my flash drive. I have a Memorex usb flash drive and it does show up in the Memory Manager.

The problem I have is that it says "unknown error" whenever I try to copy the files. I tried using Windows to format the flash drive. It didn't work. I then tried the HP USB Format Utility and formatted again in FAT but it still did not work. I get the same error. Somehow, it says that I don't have any free space on it. It says free space = 0/4194303Kb. I can't get it to show any free space or change the size considering it is a 256mb flash drive. I've tried changing the allocation unit size also and that didn't do anything for me.

Even when I unplug it, plug it back in, wait for the blue light to stop blinking, and then check the device, it does the same thing. I have no idea what to do at this point. Does anyone have a solution? I've already tried what was mentioned earlier in this thread. Thanks for all your help!

your usb card might not be compatible, the PS2 all versions are knowen to be fickle with usb cards,I got a nice OCZ 1GB and it works on my V1-V9 PS2's.

I don't know if I want to go return it for another one or not. I was positive that it would work because it is a Memorex flash drive and Memorex drives are on the compatibility list. Maybe not all Memorex drives are supported? I don't know if I'm going to try another one or not but if I do, I'll try a Lexar drive since they seem to be popular. It is still going to be cheaper than buying 8mb memory cards all the time. Keep the suggestions coming!

I don't know what to do now. I tried another usb flash drive, the PNY Attache. That didn't work either. It gave me the same unknown error and it says 0/4194303Kb free space. I'm beginning to think that no flash drives will work with my slim PS2. By the way, it is version 15. I thought around version 12 they put something on it that when codebreaker booted up, it would disable all usb flash drives from working. I don't know if this is true but I'm using AR Max Evo. I also tried an old Sandisk Micro flash drive because a couple people posted earlier that it works.

All of the flash drives I've tried are on the compatibility list:

TOP 5 Flash Pens
1. Lexar Media (JumpDrives/JumpDrive-Secure/JumpDrive-Sport)*
2. Memorex (Travel Drives)
3. PNY Technologies (PNY Attache)
4. Imation (very CHEAP! but DO work!)
5. External Hardrives (Maxtor, Seagate, Western Ditigal)
Honorable Mention "Apple IPOD"

* I personally had an issue with Lexar Media Lightning, and found out I was using v7.1, but tother then that it works on all other versions!

STAY AWAY FROM DRIVEs
SanCruzier Mini
SanCruzier Micro (only 128MB is confirmed working)

Am I doing something wrong or will it not work with my slim PS2? I really don't want to pay $25 for a 8mb memory card that is overpriced. Thoughts?

Okay, I've got a solution that is working for me so far. Use uLaunchELF instead to copy your game data to the usb flash drive. I have the newest version of the slim PS2 and it works fine for me. I'm so excited now because I can use my flash drive finally. I was about to give up on it too. There are many tutorials on uLaunchELF so do a search, try it, and enjoy the extra storage. I hope this helps anyone that has the same problem that I did. Thanks again for everyone's help!

How do you format pen drive to fat 32 to use in ps2
I have 2 pen drives that actually work. One for AR max & Codebreakers
which CB is a much better site for downloading codes & saves
AR MAX At pc saved games show up but not when you move them from Pen
to memory card.

Hey pcola001, after inserting your USB pen drive, right-click the device in My Computer and select Format... From there you can select FAT32 for the file system among other options. When you're ready to format, click Start and OK.

Adding to the list is the PSP. The psp works as "flash drive" for saving and moving game saves. I have confirmed that the FAT Sony 4GB and FATSony 32mb sony pro duo works, but you may have to reset the usb connection a couple of time due to read error [space left] Also Sandisk Cruzer Micro 1 GB doesn't work.

I just recently bought a Max Drive (basically AR Max without the cheating/hacking options). I also have a slim PS2.

When I load the minidisc that comes with it in my PS2, it will load, but then it will freeze on "Loading Graphics" every time.

The minidisc doesn't look scratched.

I've tried it in my cousin's older PS2, and it worked.

I read in a few other places that it doesn't work with a slim PS2, but I've also heard the contrary (most of this topic's posts tend to indicate the contrary as well).

Suggestions?

Id like to know how you move stuff from an USB pen to a memory card. Ive copied PS2GEN-1.2.elf to USB pen but i cant see the files when i look on the PS2 using AR MAX... (so in other words if i cant see the files i cant copy them to the memory card). I have a moded ps2...

Would be cool to run PS2GEN1-2 from the memory card or USB pen. Tried burn it to a DVD but couldnt play the DVD for unknown reasons...

I found about this in a blog entry (http://slametps.multiply.com/journal/item/22/CONSOLE_BackupRestore_Saves_Games_PS2_MC_USB). Unfortunately, it is in Indonesian.

So, I re-quote the steps in English:

HOW TO BACKUP:
1) turn on PS2 console
2) insert CD with ARMax
3) plug USB Flash Disk to USB port in PS2 console
4) press Reset button or browse disc to load ARMax
5) go to disk/card setting
6) if there is a blue icon appears means your USB Flash Disk has detected and ready for further process
7) select MC (not USB Flash Disk)
8) from games saves list, select which ones to back-up
9) press navigation button to the right, select Copy and select destination media USB Flash Disk (you can see the icon)
10) A message about Reading & Writing while copying in progress. If succeed, no message will be displayed.
11) repeat step 8 for other games saves
NOTE: the game save will be stored as a compressed file with .max extension, has prefix some random number followed by the game name.

HOW TO RESTORE:
1) 6) Do steps 1-6 on above backup process
7) select USB Flash Disk (of course, you have copied .max file to its root folder)
8) select games saves to restore from the list
9) press navigation button to the right, select Uncrush and select destination media MC (you can see the icon)
10) A message about Reading & Writing while UNCRUSH in progress. If succeed, no message will be displayed.
11) repeat step 8 for other games saves
NOTE: You can check if the restore process result by selecting MC and see its game save list. If you see the game save in the list, the restore is OK.

Hope this help you.

regards,

comm

CODEBREAKER v10 update

I don't know if this will help. However, with the craze of digital photography, some of you may have what you need.

I tried the Sandisk Cruzer 128MB and it didn't work. I made sure of the proper format, etc... After 8hrs of trying to figure it out (2:45AM EST), my frustrations lead me to try other USB devices that I have around my house for transferring digital photography files. One of those items is a Lexar Card reader with a Sandisk Extreme 3 8GB CompactFlash Card.

...It worked.

I also have tried the Sandisk 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB cards with the card reader. The all work great.

I tried a Western Digital 320 GB External Hard Drive that would work, but it would corrupt the data INSTANTLY. Codebreaker would read the files as being around 4GB

Just thought I would throw this out there, as an option, for those whom are trying to transfer codebreaker save game files from computer to memory card.

Does anyone happen to have the elf of Max Memory Manager version 3.36 (comes with the latest AR MAX CD)? I need to format my 64MB Max Memory card but apparently older versions of the Manager can not deal with it properly.
Thanks in advance.

Well the thing is you cant see anything but savegames in AR MAX. The question i had was *if* you somehow could launch an application from either the USB pen drive or the MC. But since i dont know how to copy DATA (not savegames) from USB Pen to MC it makes everything quite difficult. Even if i figured out how to do it, how would i run the application from the memory card...

PGEN1-2 is the Genesis PS2 emulator you see, not a savegame^^

The crap didnt work on my DVD so not gonna waste more DVD's trying to get it to work. Id rather just try to launch the application (.elf) from the PS2 to see if it even works. But the question is how the heck...
