hey everyone, I had a problem, and no one solved it...Know why??? cause the only solution is to buy AR max and use any flash drive up to a 512 mb and format it in FAT...Now yes, there is a way w/ Clone cd/dvd to burn the AR Max software,... but burning it makes it unbootable (just like trying to burn a swap magic disc)...I've tried, so I know...So here's the solution...purchase the AR Max for 30 bucks (@ Circuit City/Best Buy) then use your own flash pen (Up to 512MB FAT formatted). So cough up the dough, you cheap a$$holes......

sandisk 256MB minis and macros do not work on the PS2,the macro 128 dose but it can be fickle to show up on older programs.
I have a 256MB macro.
you can get lexar 128MB off ebay for under 20.

well Markman29, if you are using a back-up of ar max, why don't you tell us how you did it, if you are indeed a genious yourself. People are always saying what they have or how they got something to work, but can never explain briefly how they made it work. To me that's just selfish or even down right stupid....way to go "Markman29".

I am thinkign soemthign along the lines of a good quailty mod chip or a ramdom one that works a desent copy of the AR and finaly a comaptable pen drive, these factors can add up to soemthing working, but I think it depends on at least the modchip and the PS2 version depending on what you ahve the results are what you get *L*
Markman29
Tell us this
PS2 ver
AR ver
Pen drive
Mod chip (flash updates if any)
DVD brand and the way you copied it (nero, alchol, ect, ect)
Altho I dotn think tis in the copy of the disc but the hardware itself.

PS2 version 5
I dont know what AR version it is but I downloaded it from http://rapidshare.de/files/13847051/Action_Replay_Max_Evo_Ntsc.ra... I dont know if this link still works but I found it on page 5 on this thread.
I used a SanDisk Micro 512MB. It was already formatted to FAT.
DMS4 Lite flashed with Toxic BIOS
I burned it with Nero 6 on to cheap media. Brand name is "KHypermedia". The only problem with that is that it doesnt always boot up, I found that it booted up 90% of the time when I turned the PS2 on and quickly opened the tray and put the disk in. If that doesnt work then leave the disk in and turn the PS2 completly off and turn it back on. It should work that way. But of course if you are using Maxells or other high quality media you shouldnt have that problem and the load times might be a little faster.
I hpoe this helps... Somehow.

ok MR. mARKMAN29, i TRIED THAT LINK BEFORE, BUT IT WOULDN'T BOOT 100% OF THE TIME BUT AS YOU SAID i USED A CHEAP CD-R. NOW I'LL TRY AGAIN WITH A MAXELL. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT IN ORDER TO BOOT A DISC (WHETHER IT BE CD 0R DVD) ON A PS2 YOU NEEDED A "REAL" PS2 DISC, A SWAP MAGIC DISC, AAR MAX, CODEBREAKER, ETC., ETC. THAT'S WHY I INITIALLY HAD TROUBLE THE FIRST TIME. SO WHEN I WOULD DO THAT, THE RED SCREEN WOULD POP UP...SO WHAT THE HEY...I'LL GIVE IT A TRY AGAIN THANX MARKMAN29!!!

intresting...I am thinking some Booting cheat CD's/DVD's have a specail boot range on the disk that cant boot quite right when copied, altho you got it working,so try this use the best 1:1 copying method you can find and use on your comp, make sure the CD/DVD is nice and clean I use windex *L*
then run it thru its pace's.
If it dose not want to work its off jsut enough not to work *L*

I copy the post of chileu and tweak some details
This talks about how to use a flashdrive
to backup memory card of PS2. Well I have tried it and it works.
Something very important that I have noticed was that many people seemed to be using the wrong version of AR.
You are supposed to use ACTION REPLAY MAX EVO EDITION LOADER CD if it doesn't say EVO then it is probably not going to work.
Here is what I did:
Preparation:
first you must burn the image of the Action_Replay_Max_Evo_Ntsc.rar(unzip it first ofcourse) to a blank cd(700mb)
using Alcohol 120 or Nero (I used Alcohol 120% because it has an option for playstation2 disk)
1) I am not sure if there is a limit on how big the flashdrive has to be,
so I went with what a lot of people said and I bought a flashdrive 128Mb
(making sure that it is USB 1.1 backwards compatible) and format it into FAT.
Please be noted to NOT use FAT32 they ARE different. I have noticed that a lot
of people don't read carefully enough and miss the main point.
at first i had the problem because when copying a file the AR doesn't recognize the fle or having
"unknown error" when it gets to the writing portion; but after using the HP USB formatter SP27213.exe suggested
previously with the corresponding indication mentioned i got my "flashdrive" working.
2) I also downloaded PS2 save builder if you want to download save data from the internet.
3) Put the flashdrive in any USB slot on the PS2 and Load the CD (AR max evo)
4) After that it should be pretty straight forward. Go to the memory card manager,
which is the second icon counting from left to right. Once you enter you should be
able to see your memory card and the flashdrive. Click on any of them and do what
you want to do :)
One thing I should note is that when you download a save data from the internet you
have to make sure that the file end with ****.MAX. If not use the PS2 save builder and
save it as a "max" file type. Now you can go ahead and copy the file from your flashdrive to your memory card.
NOW, do not get too hasty because we aren't done YET. after you succesfuly copy the file to your memory card you need
to uncorrupt the data. There is an option in AR that allows you to uncorrupt the data.
I am guessing that what they mean with uncorrupt is to uncompress it to the PS2 memory card file type.
Once uncorrupted you can go ahead and delete the corrupted data, becuase you don't need it anymore :)
I read that it is not recommended to delete the files using the AR.
So if you want you can restart and delete the corrupted data file the original way.
DOWNLOAD the file mention above from this thread pages 5,6, and 7 have those specific files
Well, I hope that this will help a few people who are confused on how to do this trick.
I also want to mention that I did this on my slim PS2, cheers :)

i dont trust ARMAX to handle my gamesaves cause it doesnt always work properly. if all you want is to safely transfer gamesaves between your memory card and your flash drive then get ulaunch. its alot quicker and safer.

is there any way to, say, partition my usb flash drive into 2 drives? I have a 1 gigger that max drive/action replay max sees, but wont copy things to or from without error messages. My hopes is that if i partition a 16 meg space, it'd work.
