@Wombat45, Chipflip, Kenbot, ozz_yetti

I have the Wiikey SD adapter and can confirm that it works with backing-up single layer discs. There is a discussion and guide on this thread:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/620574

Keep in mind that the dump utility is on the Wiikey Config disc 1.2 NOT on 1.3. They have all the other files you need on both discs but no dumper on 1.2. It took me a few minutes of reading the thread and I was in business. I don't know if this works with the USB Gecko as I only have the SD adapter as I said. Good luck!

No problem! I'm not at home right now but it should be really easy to do. I'll try to give you more specifics later when I'm home. I used the ".bat" files instead of the cmd line prompts and it was a piece of cake. To navigate through the config discs on the Wii you can use a Gamecube controller or the "reset" button on the Wii itself. One short press should scroll you through the discs menu, if you press and hold the button it will select the highlighted action. The disc will DL in chunks. If you are using a 2GB card you will have to go back to the computer 3 times to get the full 4.37 GB.

Does this happen once you are in the config disc menu? Which config disc are you using? If you are using the 1.2 disc they may not have implemented the "reset button select" function. The 1.3 disc has the Wii dumper utility on it but not the needed PC files, but it has "reset" button functionality. You can use the 1.3 config disc in the Wii to rip the game then you use the dumper utility on the PC (from the 1.2 cfg disc) to get it from the SD card.

Use the "Padded" versions unless you "pad" them yourself. Padded just means that someone took the original file and upsized it to gamecube sized discs so the Wii can read it easier. For example, original file size 22,567 MB, run that through some program and get 1.35 GB sized disc. Just download the file and unpack, burn the iso to a DVD c imgburn and you should be good to go.

Everything in this thread says it wont work (and i have read thoroughly!!) but it seems to recognise its a Wii disc at first

It is definitley a burner and its definitely named as above....anyone had similar?????

Perhaps it's the firmware. Did you check the drive info with something like Nero info tool or is the above info from the properties screen? If you take a look at this thread:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/563020

see thee second post, it does not list 8164b_OD08 as working. I didn't read the rest of the thread to check if there were updates to the list.

Google 8164b Firmware and you can find links to Dangerous Brothers 8164b_06 firmware. You should be pretty comfortable flashing your firmware and have a good idea of what you're doing or you could BRICK your drive.

Sorry for the late reply. I don't have a good reason for this. I can only suggest reformat of the SD card and re-try, if you haven't sorted it out already.

FYI for those of you wanting to buy a LG or Sony drive to backup the wii ISO's. It's easy and free to do so via your wireless internet. I tried it last night and it worked like a charm. It took 2.5 hours to backup a full 4GB game via my Wii, wireless router and PC. Only issue is the package for the HTTP server is incorrect. You place it in your apps folder but eliminate the extra level and source code directory. Otherwise the HTTP server will not show up in your homebrew channel:

http://www.lupiloop.com/index.php?cat=2&full=1&id=6

Only issue I had was firewall and IE related. They are right it's better to use firefox and your firewall will probably give you problems. So either disable it temporarily or creat an exception for it. If you don't know what I'm talking about and don't understand the backup package instructions don't ask. If you do understand and are having small issues I'll be happy to help. Enjoy.

I seem to be having a problem with the connection. I can bring it up on Firefox and when I press the "Wii SL ISO" link, it just sits there trying to load, while on the Wii, it says connection finished.

Edit: I got it working, but it's transferring at a blazing 60 Kb/s...

I achieved 500kbs and it only took 2.5hrs for a 4.5G game (my original wii sports disk). Sounds like your network is not setup correctly or your Wii is too far away. BTW your welcome.
