First, I would like to apologize if this has been answered somewhere, I tried to search for my answer but didn't know how to form the question.

Now, I recently got my hands on a PSP 1001 and decided to make a pandora battery but, after reading through some tutorials, I noticed that I need a second PSP which runs CFW to make it happen but the problem is there is no one nearby who owns a PSP and I wanted to leave hardmodding as a last resort so I came to an idea: What if I installed CFW via ChickHEN and used that to make a pandora?

I tried searching for an example of this but I had no luck so far and so I began to wonder if it was even possible.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you use ChickHEN you can then use Hellcats Recovery Flasher to go to Firmware 5.00 M33-6, then you can make the pandora.

Thanks.
Also, while I'm here, I was wondering, does CFW have to be installed in order of how it was released or can I just jump to the latest version?
The way I see it, some versions require you to have a certain version before the update while some can simply be installed without worry.
While I could simply try it out, I'm worried if there is a risk in "jumping over" some updates.

Thanks again.

Not that this makes any sense. Why would you want to make a pandora if you are already on CFW? If you are on CFW your PSP is already modded, so the only reason to have a pandora around would be if you manage to somehow brick your PSP. Also I wouldn't turn an original battery into a pandora one, as a pandora battery can't power your system anymore, if you want a pandora get it from www.dealextreme.com, they are around 5 US$ shipped.
To answer your second question, with chickhen you can go directly to 5.00 M33.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Ah, now that I didn't know; thanks for the info.
Although it does kinda confuse me, since in the old days, pandora was the only way to hack a PSP; I guess everyone had a spare battery.

Anyways, thanks for your help.

Sorry to correct you, but Pandora was not the only way to hack a PSP back in the "old days". When it all started with firmware 1.00 and 1.50 (both were Japan only as far as I know, US had 1.52 on US release day) you didn't have to hack the PSP at all, because these firmwares supported unsigned code aka homebrew. That feature was removed in official firmware 1.52 (my first PSP had firmware 1.53 and was a Hong Kong import, European PSPs had 2.00 on European release day). Later on you needed to downgrade (MPH Downgrader, anyone?) and use a program called DevHook to emulate higher firmware versions in order to play ISO games. There were many exploits found, some in savegames (GTA, Lumines), some in the official firmwares themselves, I especially liked the 2.71 downgrader, there was an AIO package that even came with a video tutorial. The first custom firmware as far as I remember was 2.71 HEN, but at that time I still prefered DevHook, my personal reason to switch to CFW was the PS1 emulator in firmware 3.00, this didn't work when emulating the firmware with DevHook (as far as I remember). The Pandora Battery exploit was found around the time when the PSP 2000 was released, so actually pretty late. I actually had to check this, but the last downgrader without Pandora Battery that was released was for firmware 3.50. Then for a relatively short period (which I entirely missed due not having a PSP for about a year) until the release of firmware 5.03 the Pandora Battery was the only way to downgrade or hack your PSP.

I see, so that's how it went; nice history leeson.
I guess I was under the impression pandora was the only way since everyone I knew used it to downgrade the firmware.

Yeah, I can totaly relate to the psx emulation, I have a whole stack of old psx games that can no longer be played and using an emu for PC just doesn't feel right.

Oh and, I was wondering, I read somewhere that CFW now allows you to play online (with original games); is this true or must I install offical firmware in order to play certain games with other people?
Sorry for the trouble.

There is a homebrew app that allows you to go online, the name is PSNLover, normally Sony requires the latest firmware to go online but PSNLover bypasses that.
