Alright so i love video games, so my brother modded my psp by doin the whole pandora battery thing. This was a LONG time ago as my psp firmware is still at 5.00 m33-4. Dissidia duodecim comes out in less than a week. someone whos reading this may already know my problem. So what i'm asking is could someone please give me instructions on how to get my psp custom firmware from 5.00 m33-4 to something above 6.3? I'm still quite new at this stuff. The PSP is the earliest version (1001)

You don't need chickHEN, you are already on custom firmware. For the UPDATE folder: simply create one.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

"2a) Assuming you have 5.03 official firmware already installed you must now load ChickHEN. Go into the ChickHEN folder of the file you just downloaded. Copy h.bin to the root (ms0:/) of your PSP."
if i dont need chickHEN then what folder and download is the instructions talking about?

ok nevermind my last post, because i got to 5.50 gen d3. i tried running the duodecim demo, and it starts for like a second and then goes back to home screen and says "the game could not be started", do i have more steps to go with CFW? or is it not working for another reason?

The instruction is totally no use for you. You are already on custom firmware, you only need chickHEN if you are on official firmware and want to get on custom firmware.

You need the Prometheus-4 addon.

Where did you get the demo?
Nevermind, seems I lack sleep. When in the XMB (the PSP's Main Menue) press the select button, in the menue that opens then go to UMD ISO MODE and set the driver to another one, instead of normal. This way you activate the NO UMD mode.

i got the demo off of PSN. could that be the problem? because i tried the normal driver, the m33, the sony NP9660, and the OE isofs. all of them give me "the game could not be started message", except for the OE isofs one, that one just turns the PSP off.

Original PSN stuff and custom firmware don't mix that good. One last thing you could try:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/2056
You also need
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/2057
for it to work.
It has dual boot, when booting up the PSP normally you go to custom firmware, but when pressing the home button while booting up you go to official firmware, kinda cool actually.
The direct update won't work though, 5.50 GEN has a faked version.txt making the PSP think it's on firmware 9.99, when in the XMB press select again, set USB Device to Flash 0, connect the PSP with the computer using an USB cable, select the folders VSH, then ETC and there the version.txt document.
It should look like this:
release:999:
build:2740,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6
system:46876@release_999,0x05000010:
vsh:p6264@release_999,v46652@release_500,20081010:
target:1:WorldWide
Set release:999: to release:550: and the update works. Don't forget to set the USB Device back to its original value when you're done, otherwise you can't access your memory stick anymore via computer.
