I am absolutely new in the world of PSP, brought one from my friend today. I was going through some threads in the forum from which I got an idea that I need to install a custom firmware to take the most out of my PSP. Problem is how do I know which version of PSP do I own and which firmware should I install.
When I opened the battery compartment, it showed PSP 2006 and when I went under system information under settings, it shows system software version 3.72.
This is all that I know about this PSP. Please help me from scratch as to which firmware should I install, from where can I get that firmware and how to install the firmware. Moreover, is it possible to use my PSP as a video player? If yes, how can I do that?
Hi, sorry about the lateness, Your PSP (the 2006) means that it is the Slim and Lite Model, the models in order of release are as followed
PSP-1XXX
PSP-2XXX
PSP-3XXX
PSP-N1XXX
PSP-E1XXX
The 2000 is defiantly the best series.
As for the system version, newer is better (now) because all PSPs can be hacked to play backup (ISO) games, If you just want a 'Vanilla' (Official Firmware) PSP, then goto the playstation website and download the latest firmware, all information is available the
If you want a CFW (Custom Firmware) to play homebrew, game backups and other unsigned code, then look here to get started.
As for the video player, the PSP can easily be used as a Video Player, however, all movies must be encoded as MP4 videos, and stored on the PSP's Memory Card. Visit HERE for more information.
