New PSP casing, directionals borked

As per the topic, I bought a new casing for my PSP 1000 and got it setup, however it seems something is wrong with the analog/dpad. When in the system menus it works fine, but as soon as I boot a game like Persona 3 FES, the cursor goes straight to the upper left. I can use the d-pad to move it back, but it goes right back that way as soon as I let it go. Even removing the analog stick entirely hasn't fixed the issue. Does anyone have a clue what might cause this? Have disassembled and reassembled twice with similar results.

The analog is the Joystick and to fix it, take the face plate off and the look at the analog area. There is a jelly thing CAREFULLY remove it and then using a slightly damp cloth attempt to clean the yellow cube-shaped receptors. The D-pad is the arrow cleans to fix, just loosen the screws. =D I had both problems before so I have some experience.
