I haven't played with that style of docking station but you'd think it would work just fine, however I do know that some have had problems with those. So like Sams says, proceed with caution. I'm thinking of going to a 5.25in six-hot swappable 2.5in hdd bay and a two-3.5in hdd hot swap bay.

I have said this before, however, I use 2 2TB USB 3.0 docking stations to backup my movies, which I burn to, and then copy the movies to a backup drive that is also USB 3.0. The speed starts at over 90 MBps, and then filters down to about 50-60MBps.

I also backup my entire system on one of these docking stations, which normally take about 20-25 minutes. The data that is backed up currently is 86GB, however when I get rid of all the crap it gets down to about 40-50GB.

My current Thermaltake(USB 2.0/eSATA) dock, has served me well for quite some time. I'm not sure if the eSATA cable is bad, or the PCB/chip. I'm betting people are either rough with them, or... the 3.0 issues initially, were due to bad drivers. I've read a bit on that. It's not uncommon for bad Sata cables. So I'm really curious about that. As well as the ports on my mobo.

I think I will proceed. With caution ;)

Kevin,

I saw your post on the BD-Rebuilder thread. Have you tried to backup the Red 2 movie? BD-RB complains about the target being too small in full movie backup but will backup the Movie Only to either DVD9 or BD25, the source is 48GB but the actual movie is 22GB uncompressed. I tried it with DVDFab and it gets 54% through and then bombs. This brings up another question since I haven't played with Fab lately, have you made a Fab mountable ISO? Can you setup a virtual player with Fab now and have your complete library to select from on a hdd??

No on all counts LOL! Though I've been meaning to pick up Red 2. Liked the first one.

That one may be one of those discs, with multiple playlists. That can cause a multitude of problems. Especially a proper backup.

That's exactly what the problem is! It has at least 20 playlists.

I haven't watched Red 2 yet but like you I liked the original so I'm hoping that 2 will be good too.

Good call Kev! ;D

Well, I did it :S I bought the Syba dual 3.0 Dock. As well as a 4Tb WD40EZRX. I eagerly await it joining the ranks ;) It's going in the Dock first, for [Shoots(edited)] and giggles.

'For Ss and Gs' seems to be a suitable safe substitute. That is of course, if people get the reference. I did :)

Best of luck, I look forward to hearing the outcome.

Or perhaps now :D

I got my 4Tb Hard drive(WD40EZRX) and dock, only a short while ago. But, 3.63TB as the computer reports ;) Naturally. I call her, Zolena. For now anyhow. I wanted it to have the path Z:\, in honor of my first 1TB drive. Z is difficult to choose for :S

So it would seem, that the Syba dock(SYBA CL-ENC50038), does indeed support beyond 3TB. I figured it would. But, some manufacturers have their proprietary firmware, proprietary software, etc, etc. BUT! It works :D Which means I can transfer some data to it, and tuck her away for safe keeping. Now, if they could just release a petabyte drive!!! Two of those, and I'd be set for a VERY Long time :p

I'll run some tests, when the long format completes. Yes, the long format... :S

The dock is supposed to simultaneously support two drives. I'll test that too. But I don't have the hardware to saturate USB 3.0 :p

I remember saying in May 1999 '13GB will be loads, that'll do fine'.
I surpassed the 13TB mark in January 2011 (when upgrading from 12 to 16TB), so 11 1/2 years ish, for a factor of 1000.

Yeah, technology advances, thereby requiring even more storage space. 4k content will certainly take up space. Heck, even blu-ray is a storage pig!

I remember in 1985 saying 5MB drive would be all I'd ever need and the disc, which was removable, was the size of a very large pizza and about 3 inches thick. Of course back then the 1K memory limit was still a factor. ;D

I suspect I'll see the day, when petabyte and more exists. Brontobyte? Probably not LOL!
Geopbyte? Probably not even 4 generations from now :p

If an alien race helps us out! Or, we stumble on some new remarkable storage technology. I suppose flash technology is pretty impressive. I'll have to calculate how large PHYSICALLY, a petabyte drive would be, based on current flash technology.

Or, more likely, Petabyte, Exabyte, Zettabyte and Yottabyte :)

Roughly 10hrs to "long format". I wasn't around for the completion, but judging by the meter, and how it looked at 8.5 hrs, I'm willing to bet it was between 9 and 10 hrs. I'll begin some large transfers tomorrow. As well as a quick benchmark.

Is that some kind of star wars crack, DDP?
