Anything is worth the effort if you want it bad enough. Nothing gives more pride and satisfaction than doing something yourself.

I suppose I could alter the case. I'll have to think about that one LOL! I definitely agree, about pride and satisfaction in making something yourself. I jarred some Jalapenos yesterday, and they're friggin incredible! Best Jalapenos I've had in a long time :D

Hey Steve, how about I mail it to you, and you can have an eye sore staring at you :p

What does it have for guts and does it have a PCI-E slot? I'm almost tempted to buy it myself.

A late model Pentium 4 or early Core 2 Duo is what I'm guessing is in that machine. I am quite familiar with them as my Vocational School had a large fleet of them. E6750s with 4GB and an 8400GS for GPU acceleration made them quite versatile and robust for their intended usage. Good enough at least to run the CAD and programming software required for courses. Not too demanding, but the extra grunt they get from not using the bare minimum of components goes a long way.

Been looking for a proper legacy games machine for quite a while. I would be putting a GeForce 7000 in it. A large number of older games have shaders that require a Dx9-only card. Would really like to play them with proper graphics again.

The cases on those particular machines are quite nice looking as well.

Actually sounds interesting. Keep me posted. Finding a low profile card shouldn't be too hard.

Something along these lines would be ideal. The rest of the components would be fine for my purposes. I see it's one of the later models with SATA, which is perfect as I have a low-hours 320GB SATA drive sitting around for just such a purpose :D

He can go right ahead and say what he wants. I love small, time consuming projects. Heck the guts in that PC might be what I want already.

We think alike :) I have it plugged in now. Uninstalled the damned Norton suite. Almost running like new now. Go figure! LOL! I really don't know why people are attracted to that garbage!

That's a surprise Kev, I know they were hogs for several years, the last year they got rated number one by Maximum PC, which they did rate them at the bottom for years because they were a resource hog, the last year they changed big time, I was still skeptical, a friend of mine that owns a PC repair shop talked me into getting it it's free if your with Comcast and I am, I unloaded AVG and to my surprise what a difference, actually AVG slowed me down, experienced no slow down speed with anything running Norton, by chance were you running an older version?

Older OS! Older CPU! I'm sorry, but Norton will never boast a version, that runs smoothly on an older PC :p Congrats to them, for making a product for newer computers, and people that need it, for comfort. Myself, I haven't run an antivirus in nearly two years. I recognize the tell-tale signs of them now. And only run Malwarebytes, should I need to. Otherwise, I never have it installed.

Adblock plus, keeps most of the unwanted material away, and the browser itself, warns of nasty sites. Which is rare to encounter, since I'm a person of simple needs :p Youtube, facebook... pretty simple stuff really.

After more than 10 years of appalling resource usage and reliability impairments, it'll take more than one substantially improved version to restore my trust in Norton. A lot more.

I have a legacy XP machine for old stuff like that with the E4300 and X1900XT - shame the motherboard only really supports 2GB of RAM these days, but that's not too much an issue.

Norton Security. Insane resource hog and very intrusive. Also, tons of false positives.

I have no issues running an older PC if it does the job. The X1900XT would be great for my needs, but find one at a reasonable price now...

Haven't run an AV in quite some time. Malwarebytes for the odd issue. Over a year on this format.

Jeff, You'll find this report from CPU-Z valuable.

I won't be able to sell it for a few weeks yet. My aunt (original Owner), is coming up in less than two weeks, and we'll determine all the data she wants to keep.

On another note, my new external dual-dock is working wonderfully :) I had two drives connected to it yesterday. A WD 160Gb drive, and my 4Tb. No problems to mention :D Transfer speeds are comparable to other Drives in the class. Fact is, it keeps up with my WD1001FALS.

Now I'm playing with this.
Passmark performance test, is not showing the correct speeds. No doubt a communication error. It showed speeds so slow, one would believe the SD were failing. But a transfer, revealed write speeds over 23MB/s. Which is more than twice what I was getting on another 2.0 reader. Yay! Loving it! Needed a good reader, for transferring Nintendo Wii data. And this one supports SDXC :D

I suspect Passmark performance test has outlived its usefulness.

Will wonders never cease!? Now a lady friend gave me an HP Pavilion m9500t. It has a core 2 quad in it :D I was quite curious of those, when they first came out! The hard drive is exhibiting boot issues. That's all! I pulled it, and am able to extract all the data.

Darn! She's an indian giver :(

Norton isn't my favorite Fred but you are absolutely correct that it isn't the over-head hog it use to be for the personal users and I can see why you like it. My dad uses it now he switched from McCrappy because they have gotten worst actually. He has a friend that thinks Norton is the only way to go so that is why he has switched over. Since he uses it I still get to play with it as he needs help from time-to-time.

Just a heads up though, you can't put much weight on ratings derived, especially by magazines, online as they are typically biased, even more then benchmarks for computer gear. Who ever is paying for advertising is going to get the highest rating. If you look online you'll see several magazines all with their own favorite or best package and they won't all be the same provider.

When Jeff makes those absolute statements I can't hold back from letting one fly on occasion. It's all fun though. ;D

Got my new 230mm fans in. Very nice LEDs and noise/vibration are fine. Not much more than previously. Noticeably better airflow. Just have to wait for the 2 x 140mms to arrive :) The frames are a bit weird as they don't match the default screw holes, but I was able to pull the front fascia off the case and find a wider set of holes that fit. Quality of build, packaging, looks, and performance are otherwise quite satisfactory.

Omega, that looks just fine to me. Let me know when you are willing to let it go and maybe we can work out a fair deal :)

Movies, I have no problems with you. Jest all you want, I won't be offended(though I might get riled up once in a while). I like to think we're all friends here :)
