The recordnow code points to power on/reset or bus device reset occuring.

Check for PC going into standby modes or power saving options such as hard drive/video and screensavers etc.......

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............

I am sending in my update from my last comment. I downloaded the version of Nero .25. That seemed to fix the scsi problem that was called out when then burner is installed in the computer case, and disconnected the USB external case to make everything work properly.
Next I switched the Pioneer to the usb external case and the scsi errors returned. Lastly, I moved the cdrom burner back into the computer case, added a second IDE hard drive to the usb external case, and everything works gret.
I suspect the USB case does not have the latest upgrade or something. It could be that some software products like the USB device and some do not. I only used Nero and have not tried to use Roxio or anything else with the burner in the external case.
I just wanted to ask ccampbell if Nero has tested their software with different external USB cases? If, so, is there a list of the ones that were used?

thanks. ill look into this. maybe im get problems with nero for thr same reason.

EDIT: i looked into it. everytime i burn, i have my ac power hooked up. i checked my power settings and i had nothing shut off or standby while the ac is plugged in. so i guess that rules this out. : )

Hi Chynk,

Could you upgrade to our latest Nero 6.3.1.25?

I want to make sure your not seeing an issue reported by others that caused this type of error message.

And make sure you do a Simulation write first, as I want to see if it passes Simulation but fails an actual write attempt.

And is that the latest firmware on your model recorder?

The reason I bring this up, is that I do no like seeing the below entry in the Nero Log file where it seems to indicate that it had trouble detecting the media as be useable.

Hmm, I think to stop this being confusing, you should stick with one type of burning software unitl you get the main issue sorted....

From what I have read, your burner is relatively new and also USB 2.0, my opinion is that this where your problem may lie and not in either of the software.

I would definately check that your ports are capable of delivering the required current for your burner, and that you are not using a shared port.
Are you using any other USB devices whilst attempting to burn?

Also check your BIOS settings regarding power management and standby settings, usually windows will override these but there maybe something in there that is having an affect....

@baabaa

during the summer, i was using my friends burner (exact same model) n all i had to do was plug it in. i used NERO6 n it was perfect.

after i upgraded to SP2 when i got back to school, the problems began.

so im pretty sure my usb ports are compatible with this burner.

@ccampbell

the latest firmware on my burner is A110. i d/led the firmware upgrade n upgraded it awhile ago. once i get back home, ill update my Nero n try to burn another dvd with a simulation first.

A little history helps alot, cheers.....that rules a posible power issue to the ports.....

Well, to be honest if it worked OK before SP2, then I would uninstall SP2 and see if it goes back to how it was, then update Nero to the latest version and retry it, then if everything is sitting good, install SP2........

I do know that microsoft published a list of software that had issues with SP2 but I don't think Nero (ahead) was on there......ccampbell will be able to direct you there.

Well, at least we know that it occurs with Simulation as well, so this does make me lean towards issue with the USB bus, and what BaaBaa says is right. At this point we need to see if SP2 is an issue. This is the first I've heard of issues with the USB Bus, SP2, and Nero, but SP2 has been causing different problems for every user. Which makes it very frustrating to resolve.

Uninstall SP2 and see if this does in fact resolve the issue, and let me know your results.

Craig

This is for ccampbell, I am still having problems directly related to the usb connected Pioneer with Nero.
I do not have service pack 2 installed and I still get the scsi errors like everyone else. I saw an earlier post about updating the usb chip and want to know if that can be done on an external usb case?

Hi Kimsmith,

No, with an external case its the USB Bride board contained in the chassis that is the issue. You can only upgrade the drivers for your USB Controller on your computer.

Can you send me an Email at techsupport4@nero.com? I would like you try an older WNASPI driver of ours, that we use to address issues with the old HP8200 USB recorder. This WNASPI driver resolved issues we have with the USB Bridge board contained in that model drive. It's a long shot, but can't hurt to try.

hi:
i had the "scsi abort" problem with my burner (nec 2510a). i have read your forum with interest as i too have been trying to solve this issue. every time i tried to burn a dvd-r with Nero i got the dreaded scsi abort.

i have contacted support for the burner (the burner is nec, the company is mad dog multimedia), and i wrote Nero also. none of the fixes offered by either source have worked.

from your forum, i tried craig's suggestion of changing the name of nero's aspi. the problem with that is the Nero does not recognize the dvd. i have updated to the latest Nero software. from mdmm, i updated the firmware for the burner.

now, i have had success burning dvds to dvd+r. i am not sure exactly if i understand the difference between the two formats. i know burning to dvd+r is not the greatest solution, especially when you've bought a slew of dvd-r disc, but it is an alternative you can try.

meanwhile, i'll keep reading. your posts are very informative.

@ccampbell

i just uninstalled SP2 from my add/remove list and restarted.

i ran a simulation at 4X n everything went fine... because i did not want to burn my DVD-R at 4X, i canceled it n tried to burn it again at 2X, this time unchecking the simulation box.

SCSI COMMAND ABORTED AGAIN!!!!!!

heres the damned log:

just SUCCESSFULLY burned an image onto a memorex dvd-rw at 2X.

heres the link (http://www.angelfire.com/hiphop3/chynkrecordz/log.txt)

didnt wanna post it cuz i post so many!!! other users must be gettin annoyed :(

----------------------------

BTW, i dont know if this has any significance (probably does) but when i try to run the nero cd-dvd speed test, it only works when i inserted a dvd-rw. when i try it with a dvd-r, it gives me the error msg: ERROR - PARAMETER VALUE INVALID (052602)

------------------------------

i was double checking my USB drivers n this is wat i found:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329632
i visited this site n it says the most up-to-date drivers for sp1 is 5.1.2600.1106.

when i go to my device manager, i double click on "nec pci to usb open host controller" (i have 2) and everything checks out. however, when i double click on "standard enhanced pci to usb host controller", its version 5.1.2600.0

could this be the problem? how do i update it? i tried the microsoft method n couldnt get it to work

Hi Chynk,

For USB Recorders, I have Plextor, Memorex, Lite-ON, and Pioneer here in the lab. All work fine with Nero 6.3.1.25 on various systems and operating systems that I have tested on. Regardless of the media used.

When you say it fails with CD-Speed testing DVD-R media, what test exactly are you running? Did you use the Create Data Disc option with DVD-R media?

Poor cabling could cause the power Reset issue, and possible problems with the Nero software, but thats a long shot. As for drivers for your USB controller, that is always a possibility. If this were my system, based on what you've done so far to resolve the issue, I would next test to see if the USB controller is the issue. The Good thing about stores like 'Fry's Electronics' is that you can purchase hardware like a USB add-on Controller, test to see if it resolves your issue, and if not return the product in 15 days. :-)

And Jphilipgr,

You should upgrade your Nero software to the latest Nero 6.3.1.25 and make sure you have the latest firmware for your recorder and see if this resolves your issue first.

Craig

start/programs/nero/nero toolkit/nero cd-dvd speed

i just inserted a dvd-r into my iomega external drive and click start. i notice that under "run test", all are selected so i assume it runs the tests in sequential order. hence, the transfer rate test would be first.

when i burn a dvd-r, ive tried using the create data disc and burn image options... both dont work. however, when i use a dvd-rw, they both work.

for my usb controller, you would recommend me buying the usb controller test? wat exactly is that?

i run a 60gb external hdd from my laptop which i know is usb2. ive never had issues with transfering data back n forth using all 3 of my usb2 ports on my laptop. again, ive used this exact same laptop to burn dvds with the exact same model burner. im seriously lost n gettin frustrated at my burner.

Craig, is there another way we can communicate on this issue? my hdd only has 4.7gb free n im leaving that so i can backup the rest of my data!!! im in need of this to work! sorry if im bitchin, just frustrated : (

HI Chynk,

You can contact me directly at techsupport4@nero.com

The test with a new USB2 controller means you would need to go to a store, preferably one like Fry's Electronics that allow returns if it does not address your issue, and purchase a USB2 PCMCIA controller that you can add to your Laptop. Just to see if the issue is Controller related. This does not mean the controller is the issue, just that it could be, even though other operations are not affected.

My problem is that I am not able to duplicate this issue with any of our USB Recorders in our lab. I've tested laptops and desktop computers. And I do not see any obvious issues with your system or the drivers on your system.

Regards,

Craig

I dont know if it helps anybody but I had all the same problems and it wasn't remedied until I reformatted and downloaded the older version of shrink 3.17 and reloading my Nero OEM and everything works perfect. I have yet to reinstall the new veresion of shrink because it caused problems last time and everything works fine now. Good luck!!!

Hello,

I use a Pioneer DVR107D in a Loadstar USB2 case and have the exact same problems with the SCSI aborted command. I tried the drive both on my PC and my laptop (WinXP SP1/SP2) with Nero and I get the same error message. The Laptop uses a PCMCIA USB2 card, my PC has USB2 onboard, so that should rule out any hardware USB2 issues regarding the PC. I use the latest Nero version and have the latest firmware for my burner too (1.20) Here is my error log:

what are they smoking in Redmond?

my external pioneer 107d also had the same scsi abort
error failure message problem

my generic USB2 card has the VIA VT6202 chip
and was immediately recognized by the XP SP1
and given
USB Mass Storage Device
Via USB Enhanced Host Controller

all with Microsoft drivers

after installing the drivers from the update/upscale
i now have
the same USB Mass Storage Device
USB 2.0 Root Hub Device
Via USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller
