@baltekmi,
Try running everything at stock settings and run your benches again and see what the results are.

@baltekmi,
Have you got hyperthreading enabled?
Have you got the chipset drivers installed?

Thanks crowy. I got so many questions in my mind after reading the Abit manual that I just forgot about that. If you have XP Pro, sp2 and above XP usually does a good job with it's own drivers. That wouldn't account for the high lack of MIPS. Not at that clock speed. Something is seriously gumming up the works and I think it's the memory controller creating a bottleneck between the CPU and the memory controller. I would use the drivers that come with the motherboard and check for updates. they were the first thing I installed the first time I booted it up. I didn't even have to re-install XP. It just booted up giving me some hardware messages and a few missing file windows but as soon as I got all the drivers installed, it's worked perfect ever since. Between all of us here, we will get baltekmi's computer running right!

@Baltekmi,
Did you install windows with APIC mode disabled? If so,even if you have enabled HT it wont be enabled.Have a look in your bios and see if it is enabled.
To make sure that it's on,hit ctrl-alt-del then click on performance. How many cpu bar graph screens do you see?

@Baltekmi,
OS Select for DRAM > 64 Mbyte is not applicable so should be disabled.
OS2 is another operating system(by IBM I think) and needs to be enabled if running OS2 and you have more than 64mb ram.
Thats APIC not APCI (2 entirely different things).

Can't be that, as a 3.4/800 Prescott would be cheaper at $269!

Strictly speaking, the 3.0/800 Prescott is probably the best overclocker of the Prescotts. The 2.8/533 can't even help itself very much. The 2.8/800 runs hot! I've had my 3.0/800 pushed as high as 3.70 and everything ran well until I burned a DVD. Disk i/o errors. Had to back it down to 3.68 where everything worked fine. Loosened the memory timings just a bit and it now runs at 3.70 and does everything. I'm gonna cunduct some experiments with the memory speed in a month or two and then see if I can get it up to 3.75. That would be so cool, a 25% OC on a Prescott!! On AIR!!!

I noticed you've gotten a very nice oc with that 3.0 Prescott.May I ask what mother board you are using? I'm going to be ordering a new board for mine (total reconstruction) and would be interested in some suggestions.

An Asus P4P800-SE. I wish I could take credit for being so smart but it was an Impuse buy that turned out to be a very good buy. A little old tech but with a good AGP 8x video card like the X850-XT it would be a pretty good machine for a couple of years yet!

I hear a lot about being limited in headroom with both the 3.2 and 3.4s, both Northwood and Prescotts. They seem to like to go 3.4 or so with the 3.2 and about 3.6 or so with the 3.4. The 2.8s are both bad news. The 533 can't be pushed enough for the memory to get up to a decent speed and the 800 runs hot so the best CPU choice with this MB is the 3.0/800. Honestly I never thought I would see 10,000MIPS with a 3.0 Prescott but it benches out at 10652 with a nice fat 5732 MB/s Bandwidth. Temps with the Zalman 9500 of 47C Idle and 58C while running Prime95 or encoding. I plan to swap a little bit of that bandwidth and memory speed to get everything working smoother. I have a few ideas I want to try. I'm looking for about a 25% OC without getting scarey with the voltage. I'm at 1.325v right now with the memory at 490MHz. I want to slow down the memory and run a little tighter memory settings. As long as the memory speed doesn't drop below 400 it should work very well. I have a couple of other tricks I want to try as well! Stay Tuned!!!!!

@crowy and aabbccdd,
I guess you both misunderstood my question.I am looking to replace my Intel system's motherboard(Intel Prescott 3.0 with h/t).I am perfectly happy with my AMD setup(in sig.) and seek no further upgrades at this time,but thank you both for the suggestions.

theonejrs,
Thank you too! That just so happens to be the board I had in mind,I have found it at two seperate locations for under a $100.00.
I will also be replacing the case with this one>http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811119075 as my other computer started it's life as a Dell dimension 3000.The only remaining original parts to date are the case,m/b and processor.

Hmm, Dell Dimension cases stay cases for Dell Dimensions, not exactly designed with upgrades in mind. Had it not been for the poor airflow, I could have shoved all sorts into my old Time case. Mind you, time had a contract with inWin, so maybe that's why. A top 6/10 generation card is a good buy on either platform.

Hiya Sam,The old Dell m/b will stay in it's case waiting for some lonesome stray socket 478 cpu to find it.I might have a Northwood 2.4 coming soon that can reside there.(Another project for another day.)
