try this double click on the norton firewall on the right buttom side of your pc, it will open the norton windows.
on the right side on top you will see an "Option", right click on it and choose the Personal Firewall.
it will open Norton Personal Firewall Option, click on
Firewall, click on the Add and put this number 6881, and 6999, then click ok, this will help alot.

You could try www.torrentsearch.us
I've used it in the past, but I'm not sure just how thorough a search it conducts.
Hope you find what you're looking for mate.

Alright- I'm brand new to the bittorrent game.
I heard of it because there was a television show on that's brand new and won't be rerunning for a while that I missed multiple episodes. I first tried downloading off of bearshare, limewire, imesh, and many, many more including shareaza. All of them failed because they either didn't have any files or, the files didn't have enough users to download. So I tried bittorent and they download, but after that I can't play them.
I saw this question before, but the advice about codecs etc. simply confused me. All of my players (wmp, DivX 2.5, real one, iTunes, quicktime)say that it doesn't have the software to play that type of file. I downloaded from suprnova and it said that they were AVI files. So I got that system (GSpot) to check and it said it wasn't a legitimate AVI, but this was before it finished downloading.
So, after it finishes downloading will it simply play in any of my players? is there something special I need?
Mostly, I'm a beginner and not amazing with the computer lingo. I could use some help. Thanks.

well sfox 425 sorry i couldnt JUMP faster for you but it sumtimes takes MORE then 2 hours 29mins for a reply
a couple of things anyway....
1. you cant play the file if it hasnt finished downloading ,unless you stop downloading and then use AVI preview or somthing, but it will be all over the place as it downloads different chunks at a time,
2. to make sure you have all the codecs get the "ACE MEGA codec PACK" it has pretty much everything you will need, and im 99.9% sure its free so do a search on google, and off you go..
hope i was of some help to you SIR..

Bit Torrent is not a very good p2p program. It download at a slow rate and if you turn off your computer you can not restart the download. If the user on ther other end of the line goes off line and no one is there to cont. the download it will stop and not beable to start again. It does have alot of user on the network and there are alot of site out there that will help you find downloads.
Try it and if you like it use it.

well actualy tampaman you can resume your downloads all you do is click on the original torrent again and point it to the same folder you were downloading it to in the first place and it will resume, but its obvious that if no 1 has the same file it will stop untill sum 1 with that file connects again,. then it will continue...

I have been reading some of these posts, and I am by no means a torrent genious. I have tried a billion things though over the last few weeks, experimenting and jacking stuff up until I finally got things to run smoothly. I have come across many problems that I am seeing people have, and these are some of the things that work for me.
Bit tornado--I started off using the "stock" bit torrent program from bit torrent.com. My uploads where way too high and downloads too slow. I tried net limiter, and it was no help. I finally tried new torrent programs, and bit tornado is working great. It has a setting that lets you select your connection speed, and sets the upload speed to maximize your download speed. I have been using the minimum settings allowed for my connection speed, which is cable/fast, and I hit 104 Kbs today. Much better than the 5-10KBs from the other programs. Another plus is the pause feature.
Also the problem connecting to tracker is fine. If you leave it alone, it will eventually pick up the download where it left off. For example I got the error at 22%. I left it alone and came back 6 hours later, clicked the error message away and my download had already started back up hours before and was at around 75%.
Also the ports are important. Especially if you have a router. Configuring your ports is different for every router from what I understand. I have a linksys and I had to go to the site to forward the ports. Do a google search for forwarding ports for your specific router and you should find something.
Oh and another note, the way that the bittorrents work is while you are downloading a file, other people are uploading that same file from you also. To ensure that there are enough sources going around, most torrents have some type of restricter that makes your download speed directly proportional to your upload speed. So if you put your upload to 1kbs, you will probably have a slow download speed. It seems that the rule of thumb is to set your upload speed to 80% of what it makes and your download speed will peak at it's max. Like I said earlier, bit tornado does the math for you, so just experiment a little with your upload speed to maximize your download speed.
Hopefully this helps some people.

Actually I do have one problem, I saw it mentioned earlier in the post, but it was back in 2003. Now that I am getting good download speed, it seems that once I break 100KBs, my download stops because my internet connection shuts down for a second or two. The internet gets up and running again on it's own, but the torrent is no longer connected. Has anything come out that will automatically reconnect you to the torrent if the connection fails briefly?
