Hey born2ride
Recode just like Shrink in alot of ways - same developer or at least he used to work for Nero.
I think you'll like esp if you're already ripping 1st w/ DVDFab.

One diff is by default Nero unchecks all the foreign audios and sub titles unlike Shrink.

Hey farfy
Click has Sony's ARccOS protection on it so Shrink can't handle it alone.
But it can definitely be backed up.

Are you using AnyDVD - latest version 6.1.0.0 running in the background w/ Shrink? Will handle this one.

Or tried to rip 1st w/ DVDFab Decrypter? Latest version of that is 3.0.5.0.

Happy New Year!

I just d-loaded the Nero trial 7.5.0.9.A... Do you think that it's ok to try to back up that now??? And Thanks a bushel Binkie7. So glad i have you now!!!!!

You can try opening those files in Nero's recode and see if it will handle them.
Recode won't do copy protected movies unless they're ripped 1st w/ something like DVDFab or you have AnyDVD running in the background.

Using the latest DVDFab - 3.0.5.0? If not then update to that one.
If you are then add VobBlanker (free) to the mix.
Here's a guide using DVDFab/vobblanker and Shrink.

Nothing to dl on ARccOS - that's just what the copy protection for Sony is called. DVDFab breaks it.

Oh and no problem on the help!

Hi, I have recently changed computers and I now have Nero7. Which I love the recode on. But I'm having a problem. I have one dvd that I have backed up but something happened to my origanal so I want to back it up again. When I try to copy the backup it runs fine till it starts burning onto a new disc. it begins then an error pops up and my blank media is ruined. I've tried to copy-copy & ripping it with dvdfab to my hard drive and then burning it and I get the same issue. If you can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the error:

Hey flywilley

Here's some suggestions:
Nero Version: 7.2.3.2
Probably not the cause of the burn failures but update Nero to the latest 7.7.5.1 - a few fixes since the version you're using. link

Physical memory : 255MB
Free physical memory: 35MB
Memory in use : 86 %

A lot of memory in use and adding at least another 256mb would be good too. In the mean time close any unneeded programs and no multitasking when burning.

Recorder: <LITE-ON DVDRW LH-18A1P> Version: GL0B
Doesn't look like a firmware issue but best to keep it up to date. The latest is GLOF - link.

DVD-Copy on the fly
Turn this option off - does the copying and burning in real time so any little glitch the this error from the log - Error reading data
& the burn fails. Let Nero save it temporarily to the hard drive then it will start the burn.

Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC.MAG
Not the best and may be the main cause of the burn failing. Better to use would be Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

Burn process failed at 16x
Take the burn speed down to 8x.

File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS':
Still failing after the suggestions above then uninstall Roxio & run the zap tool. Roxio and Nero don't always play well together.

Give those a go and let us know!

No worries flywilley - should have given a little guide on the firmware update.

To turn off copy on the fly - in express it's called quick copy. Uncheck that box.
If you were using burning rom in the copy options tab it's called 'on the fly'.

Oops posted right when you were posting :)

Glad they did the trick - thinking it was probably of combo of turning off burning on the fly and switching the media.

Happy Burning!

Hi, I've read through lotsa posts and this one was really clear and I thought I'd got it, but no, I'm still at square two (which for the purposes of this post is really square one). I downloaded 6 episodes of Lost series 3 through Bitcomet and was really chuffed. These are AVI files and I saved them to my documents. Following your instructions, I opened Nero Recode which we got with our new external DVD recorder and got as far as Import. I got an error report saying that Nero Recode encountered an error and cannot continue: it failed to open the file. I tried Nero Showtime to see if the files actually downloaded and I get the error message: Due to patent license restrictions MPEG-4 decoding is not available, with a link to upgrade. So we upgraded to Nero 6.06 and get the same messages. So I re-read your posts here and downloaded DVDshrink. It says 'Failed to open file. The system cannot find the file specified'. What have I done wrong? I'm tearing my hair out here. My computer is so slow, it takes about 2-3 minutes to open each new thread, and when I posted a question on Bit Comet I got told off. (Albeit two days later because Yahoo wouldn't open the forums for two days after I'd asked the question - perhaps it knew I was going to be upset).

Hi kevanfee
Recode will do AVI files but only recode digital to convert to mpeg4 to like put on your iPod.

I think want you need is Nero Vision - that will convert the avi's to a dvd compliant video.
Here's a guide.
It's for Nero 7 bt Nero 6 is very similar.

What version of Nero 6 do you have? Open SmartStart look in the bottom right hand corner you'll see an icon w/ a flame on it. Click on it - product center. Your version # will be listed there.

Hi Binkie, thanks for replying. My version is 6.6.1.4 and I've tried Nero vision. I get the same problem; when I get to the point where I click Add Video Files and find them in My Docs, it says: Unable to Insert...blah blah. When I click on Nero Vision Express I get a message: Hardware acceleration is deactivated. Some capture devices may not work properly. You can activate hardware acceleration using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Well it took three days to find the tool, and then I couldn't work out what to do with it. I've tried all of Nero, Vision Express,Showtime, Recode, and I can't get off the starting block. Is it because I've saved it to the wrong place?

No saving it to a folder - any folder is fine actually.

Is the pc running slow cause it's an older pc? What are the specs - just need processor and ram & operating system.
Right click on my computer'>properties>general tab. The info will be listed there.

Which acceleration tool did you try? Have a link?

You should have directx 9.0c - the latest. You can get it straight from microsoft. Here's a link.

Try this free player and see if you can playback the avi's with it - VLC. Here's a link.

Let's see how that goes. If they play and Vision still gives you problems we can try some free programs that are okay.

Hi, Binkie, 'sme again! My computer is about to find out the significance of learning to fly without learning to land.
My computer: 224MB Ram AMD Athlon(tm)XP2000+,MHX,3DNow,~1.7GHz
(That means damned slow doesn't it?)
Acceleration Tool:-?dunno.
Downloaded DirectX, tried Nero Vision again and got the same message:- Hardware acceleration is deactivated. Some capture devices may not work properly. You can activate Hardware acceleration by using the DirectX diagnostic tool. {How?}
However; I did download VLC and it looks like they will play, so at least I haven't done anything wrong to the files. The one bright thing in my universe! Series 4 will be finished before I get to see 3 at this rate!
Thanks so much for taking the time with me, I'm sure that there's something I'm good at but it isn't this!

PS What is Via Raid? We had this appear on the computer when it came back from an upgrade, never found out what it was for, but I just had a look at the Nero info Tool and I spotted it on there.

Hey kevanfee
PC specs aren't that bad but I'd add another 256mb in memory. Will help some w/ the slowness.
Via Raid are the contollers your pc has for the hard drive and maybe the burners (optical drives).

Sorry I completely had a blonde moment on the hardware acceleration/directx thing.

Go to start>run and type in dxdiag. This will bring up the directx diagnostic tool. There's a series of test you can run there or in one of the tabs may display the error and the solution.

I think if you tried another program you might have the same problem.

Hopefully we'll get this resolved before series 4 :)

Oh and no problem on the help too.

Well I've spent the last two days fiddling, and I've downloaded DirectX 9 as you suggested and the 3D update and something else which I've forgotten now and I can go into the diagnostic tool and select display and what's there?
DirectDraw Acceleration: not available
Direct3D Acceleration : not available
AGP Texture Acceleration : not available.
So I guess I've discovered the root of my problem, not that any of the downloads have helped at all except to use up more memory.
I'm pretty disheartened now.

For the newer programs like Nero you need the latest DirectX for the video.
Go thru the tabs and see if any show a problem - will be listed under 'notes'. If all ok will see 'no problems found'.
You can go to the last tab 'more info' and try the troubleshoot under 'directx'. More of a search type thing.
For the ones that say not available - your graphics card looks like it doesn't support them.

Another thing to do is check and see if there is a driver update for your graphics card.
