Quote: David can you elaborate on the error you are getting? Anybody else tried the hdd unplug technic?
Imagine if it worked. We could swap without opening the case and voiding the guarantee !
Have you ever tried starting normal ps2 disc and directly after stating it eject it and put in backup, gives same error as remove hard disc methode. I think after your xmb freezes, the check if it is a real game gets undo, and when starting the game, the check repeats and gives the error (Sorry, cant explain it better with my english)
You can test it yourself too, by removing the harddisk you still have guarantee (you dont have to open your system).
I'm now testing how long it takes the laser+motor turn of, I'll post results soon here. After done that I'll put my system back toghether and not open it for a long time cause through my test I now think the swap switch is safe.

I just putted my system back togheter and when I started it, it gave a load noise like ''tak tak tak tak''. I buttom on back of ps3 of and restarted, again that noise. I removed the disc while the console was turned off and this time it started well. I putted in a disc, the bleu light started to flash like it always do but the game didn't suck in.
So I sucked it in with my switch. It started and worked well but when I pressed eject button, blu light flashing again but no game came out.
The laser is not broken it reads blu-ray and DVD good. The motor isnt broken too, but it works only with swap switch. Do you guys maybe know what is wrong, I dont want to use the swap switch everytime I want to swap disc.

David, probably you didn't put back the top case of the bd drive back correctly, so the gears aren't positioned as they should be hence why the tak-tak-tak noise.
Also, you NEED to disable the sensor for the swap to work.

The eject and put in system from my ps3 died :(.
When I press the eject button, there is no more ''tak tak'' noise.
I think some wires from the eject bottom to the eject motor melted or damaged. I dont want to rip off my system again before something ever worse happens. I can still play backups only cant use the original eject button to change original DVD/Blu-ray.

David, i had taken pics when i was doing the mod.
On this picture you can see the Eject sensor connector to the PS3.
It's yellow thing that's circled in pink.

The view shows from the bottom left of the BD drive
I would check this first, maybe it has gotten out a little or the connection isn't perfect.
Hope it helps.

Thanks for trying to help me but that cant be the problem. If I have my sensor switch turned on and try to put in a game, the sensor reconizes a disc and the blue-light on the front of the ps3 flashes, the only problem is that the motor dont suck the game in (and doesnt rotate). I think when the noise came (doesnt come anymore) something is broken that the electricity ment to go the the motor, doesnt gets there anymore. The 2 original wires on the motor are still in place. Maybe the wire is broken at the other site (cant see where it is) or some chip is fried when the noise came. I dont know what it costs to get a new motherboard from the blu-ray player (or however it's called) but I dont want to spent too much on it and I'm affraid too I cant install it.

David, i don't think the bd drive is damaged nor that anything is burnt.
I just think the white gears in the top of the bd drive that you have to remove to solder on the motor are out of place, just stuck in a bad way because when you put back the bd drive top, they didn't realign properly.
I would reopen the ps3 and check this out without any disc inside the console.

I hope nothing is broke or damaged.
But I can still load and unload discs using the swap switch, and if those white gears where in wrong position. Swap switch would also not be able to eject and load disc's. The error/damage has to be somewhere between the eject buttom and the motor (so probably at the circuit board from the player).

Can I please get a link of how it looks like so I know what to buy? So I should just walk to a store and ask for the "regular philips"?

Also happened to me. pspwiimod, do you maybe know if you can fix this for free by soldering a wire or something.
Its not that bad, but you always have to use swap switch to change disc.

I found here a solution for if a wii doesnt insert and eject discs anymore.
Maybe you can do the same by soldering over a chip that broke (bud wich chip is it)?

Ok, so advice for everyone attempting this mod:
TAKE YOUR TIME TO READ THE DAMN THREAD FULLY.
Everything is there with pictures and explanations.
There is 0 risks to break the ps3 if you are careful and do exactly what's said.
Just read everything especially around page 6-7. Don't you think your ps3 is worth spending an hour reading?
David, I still believe nothing has burnt in your ps3. Open the damn thing and check the sensor.
Of course I hope you have removed the original wires to the motor as explained pretty much everywhere in this thread?
Only the ones coming from the switch should be there.
I feel sorry for you guys with dead parts but really i don't have any idea how you got there.

I just opened my ps3 and the sensor and metal cover, all looks fine.
I didnt removed the original wires from on the motor (to have original functions). I only added 2 wires on the motor and made a switch on one sensor wire. I didnt always disabled the sensor when swapping disc, but if that should cause the my problem, I dont think it would happen when putting together the system. Maybe ChaosEnvy and pspwiimod (with same problem) can tell how they built the mod, maybe we just did something wrong.
I can switch original discs now by press the eject button (disc stops spinning) and then swap switch. And put other disc in and load it with swap switch. But I still dont have a switch so it is extra work for me to change a disc.
