BT69 it seems the Malaysian discs are not so great almost across the board. NOT nearly as bad as MIHK tho. rofl!!!! I've got a few MIHK that I'll send you if you like. They'll make great coasters!!! :D
Do you like Verb's?? cincyrob trades in ink cartridges at Office Max when they have the Verb media on sale!!! ;) I've read many times that MIT and MIS Verbs are the only way to go. The MII seem ok but all I have is MIT. Wish I could get me hands on some of the "ultra sexy MIJ Verbs" but dang creaky has the monopoly on those. Selfish little bugger he is....hehehe.

i'm only now starting to make a dent in my (unopened) stocks of my prized TYG02 Ultra sexies :) :)
Glad you mentioned it though as i've just checked, only have about 25 tubs of them left, so only approx 625 sexies left. They've lasted well, think i bought them in 2005 sometime. Looks like i should go checking for some new Verb TY, think i'll go for a mix of TYG03 and YUDEN000T03, and loads of them!
Might also get some more Maxell 16x +R which now turn out to be a mix of RICOHJPNR03 and CMC MAG M01, but i've had very good results with the M01, though i last bought 800 of the Maxell so i might have enough left; but then again, it's rude not to at a measly £12 for 100 :)

Good to see some sexies finally migrated over the pond; the new ones aren't too expensive, £10 for 50 whether it's TYG03 or YUDEN000T03. Still, it's painful to buy too many of them when the Maxell are so cheap; ah well, calculator switched on, and doing an inventory of current stocks

I'm Burning through a Spindle of 50 Mij Sony DVD-R's /taiyo yudens 16x 'ers so I'm happy with the results !!!!!!!!! I pretty much either Stick with either MIJ = Sony/Maxell/Fuji /Taiyo Yudens or Verabatims ,Sony's ,(Riteks,Ricohs =Officedepot-Maxell)-on the Made in taiwan stuff !!! The Made In Sinapore DVD+R DL's are Great but Too expensive for Anything But really special projects /Movies IMHO anyways ! well I hope Verbatim does'nt Completely switch over to the made in Indonesia plant if the quality isn't as good as Taiwan? well Thanx For the Info and Beware of tripplite ! As I am running 2 x Pioneer 215DBKs in my current rig - thought I would share my experience of them with you.
I only use Verbatim Taiyo Yudin 16x DVD-Rs and Aone 8x DL DVD+R's as they are cheap and reliable - the Verbatims are about 16quid for 100 and the Aone DLs are about 40p each.
So far I have not had a single failed burn and I have tried burning at every speed the drive can handle (except 10x DL) - the Verbatims are rated to 16x as stated but have burnt a full disc at 20x speed - between 3 and 4 minutes for the burn - it was done on a convertxtodvd conversion of 6 episodes of a 30 min (no adverts) sitcom and the playback so far has been perfect on 3 seperate DVD players. At 20x speed the noise is quite loud but not too annoyingly so, at 8x speed - which I use generaly for things Im planning on keeping the noise is comparable to most other DVD writers.
As for the DL discs - I have previously tried to burn the same discs in my Optiarc AD5170 and an older Sony drive I had - neither would write to them and would fail within 10secs and 5 mins of starting, with the 215 I have burnt them at 2.4x, 4x and 8x without a single issue (infact the 8x wrote quicker than it verified lol). In terms of noise its basically inaudible at all DL speeds - except at initial spin up and at the layer change when it makes the same amount of noise as copying at 20x on a single layer.
All in all for the price these are the best DVD writers I have ever owned, and as an added bonus they have a completely black bezel (ie none of that annoying grey/white writing a lot seem to have).
Highly recommended to anyone thinking of getting one.

Cheers, nice price, it's ages since i checked ebuyer for discs as most places are usually too expensive; they won't be Verbatim TY though, unless you have checked the MID codes

On svps website against these discs they have put this:-
Verbatim have entrusted the manufacture of the disc to the world renowned Taiyo Yuden factory. These discs carry Taiyo Yuden's 16x DVDINFO tag of TYG03. Couple that with Verbatim's high levels of packaging and quality control and you have what is probably one of the best quality DVDR discs in the world!
This is against the manufacturers code of 43548, Im ordering the same discs just in 100 spindles (43549) - so they should be TY's - they have just recently started labelling them as Advanced AZO discs???? Also so you know I have burnt in the region of a 1000 of these discs and have had less than 10 fails and they have been due to either system crashes or me being an idiot.
Also found these:-

If you sign up to AVforums they have a link to get free delivery from scan.

Don't get me wrong but they won't be Verb TY's (unless your MID codes say so and the packaging says Made in Japan :)
..but even 'normal' Verbs at £16 are extremely cheap so i think i'll buy up all their stocks instead of going to svp this time :)

Interesting, Ill admit Im not that upto speed on discs etc, but as Ive had nothing but good discs using these two codes I assumed SVP wasnt lying. Ive also just checked my two open 50 spindles and they have the correct stamper code to be TYG03's; GH000172 and GH000182 and an older one I just checked has GH000142 on it - which according to Wikipedia is Taiyo Yuden dye.
But you got me thinking and I checked the last 50 got I got and the last 100 both were sealed - the 50 was made in India and the 100 in Taiwan - from what Ive been reading lately most EU Verbatims are from Taiwan at the moment, but neither spindle have the GH000xxx stamp - instead they have ZD9014-DVR-J47C1 (50) and ZD9906-DVR-J4JF4 (100) on them.
All of the open discs I currently have are from ebuyer, so looks like they are getting quite a mixed bunch in - however all seem to work just as well.

With SVP, yes, you know what you're getting with them, as they are knowledgeable about MID codes etc, it's Ebuyer i was talking about when i said they won't be Verb TY (unless the site pages specifically say so)...
But cool, cheers for the heads up on the Ebuyer Verbs, that'll save me a fortune; but the question is should i leave any in stock for the rest of the British public hehe :) :)

Hello Everybody ! I haven't been on this site for awhile so maybe I am out of the loop on Memorex Media ? I was at another site and they were recommending Memorex to everyone and telling everybody to stay away from Sony. I know we can get into different types of DVD Burners and the media they like and all, thats not my question. My question is..... has anyone had a 100% burn rate with memorex lately and are the still made by CMC, because they are saying that it is Ritek media? If anyone has great success with memorex can you please tell me what DVD brand Burner you are using and if it is the cmc memorex media ? I know this is a old subject and I have limited amount of time to research all the forums and read every post. Thanks to all that take the time to answer my question. :) /unjust

unjust,
Not just another pretty face. ;) Good to see you!!! You know that cincyrob has been trying to "match" that 6 PIF you got once. I think they're about to admit him into county for a psych eval..... hehehe. :D
I've read that some Memorex are Ricoh or Ritek but I've only gotten the Ricoh printables under the Memorex brand. I haven't purchased any Memorex media in quite some time. Maybe some of the other people can answer more definitively on that. ;)
I don't know where you're located but you might try to get some Verbs, I'd go with MIT (16X DVD+R or DVD-R) and stir clear of the MII for now. I've heard the success rate for the MII is not as good as the MIT. good luck on that...

edit:
Thought that I would add this thread from the infamous CDF site. ;)
link to "best single layer media"
I trust some of the members posting in there. Arachne, cd pirate, and Franchsoy are some smart cookies and even negritude has some good input. Beware of the recommendation of CMC MAG E01 media.. I guess if you can get HP made it might be good but I've never confirmed that. I have some TDK made E01 media and it ain't so good. lol. If you find a burner that does anything near well with it you know you have a good burner....
hth......
