Thanks to all that answered this for me :) I thought I was in the twilight zone in that other forum ! I still have a bunch of verbs and sony ty's, but I gave some advice to stay clear of Memorex media and got reamed by everyone. ... o'well to each his own I guess ;) I am so glad to see all you guys are still on here !!!

cincyrob- It seems like the Media sales Go in Cycles atleast at the Brick and Mortar stores { BESTBUY, CIRCUITCITY ,OFFICEDEPOT ect...) they'll have Sony or Verbatim's For a couple of weeks ! then Memorex or Ocassionally TDK with Imation maybe a Distant 3rd choice But Mainly Memorex's for some reason ? maybe they get a Better deal on them I don't Know ? But they seem to get them over any other Crap Brand ??? I try to stick with The Fantastic 4 = Taiyo Yudens, Verabtims , Sony & Officdepot !! ( I know officedepot Should count as 2 Ritek & Ricoh But Being they're marketed under OD's Name I count them as one . I have a smattering of Other media in my Leaning Tower of DVD Fuji-MIJ ,Maxell Mij& MIT & maybe one odd Tub of Tdk 8X But mostly it's the barnds listed above ! I Have had good experiences with the 4 main brands I mentioned so Other than the Need for Specialty Media { Lightscribe ,DVD+R DL ect...}Which if needed would be verbatims ! I don't feel the need to experiment ! I say the best insurance is to Buy good medi & buy it on sale Regardless of whether it's Online or Local & Get free shipping if you can !!!! cheers !!!!!!!!!!!

creaks is a selfish little git he is. hehehe. j/k creaks. :) Gonna run DVD RB tonight on a movie or two and see what I get for times. If I remember right in your Quad thread you were running LOTR II for time comparison. I may try that too just for poo-poo's & ha-ha's. ;)
I've basically stopped buying media, only the occasional tub to check on something new or if the sale is to good to pass up. ;) Bought about 200 of the MCC 003 Digital Movie Discs from CompUSA before they closed. The most I paid was 30¢ per disc and as low as 20¢ per disc. NOT great deals but for quality media it made me happy. :D MIT of course.....

I don't use DVD's all that much these days for watching films, mainly for backups, as i just watch most AVI's or DVD's across the network thru my xbox, saves all that swapping of discs

greensman-Yeah I've slowed down a bit myself It's mainly because Bestbuy 's been Hawking Memorex About 3 weeks out of each month ! maybe that's an Exaggeration but not by much !! My two spindles of Sony are Supposed to deliver today !!! so waiting for That ! I tend to wait for Sales and pick up a spindle or two here and there !! Officedepots way Overdue for a BOGO sale on Media Imho anyways ! If only we can get there Before saugmon Clears the shelves LOL!!! Saugmon and Creaks are a bit alike!! lol. Buying up all the goodies and then not sharing!! Stingies!!
BT69 I didn't have that much luck with the Ritek or Ricoh media, just my personal experience with them really. NOT bad media just didn't like the inconsistent results. I know that creaky has had great luck with Ricoh stuff so it's just my crazy little setup. ;)

My Verbatim stash turned up, 8 of the new style 100-tubs. A few of the tubs are MII and some are MIT. I've started using some of the MII, i used to have perfect results with 8x MII a few years ago, used shedloads of them back then. The MII are MCC03 RG20, i guess the MIT are the same; none of them were MIJ boohoo, ah well, can't win 'em all :)

creaky I've seen some good results with the DVD-R discs at CDF. The MCC 03RG20 coded discs (MII & MIT) are burning very fast and with some good results as well. I know that you don't burn over 8x (IIRC) but these things are cranking out at 16x-20x with very little problems on a "clean" system. :D

ON another note I've purchased 2 "new" ASUS DRW-2014L1T ODD's and I"m having problems finding the possibility of a cross flash. I know the chip is a MediaTek MT-1899LE and some other drives share that chip as well but no info on or about cross flashing to a Samsung or Lite-On drive. Those 2 manufacturers use the MediaTek chip on many of their ODD's. :D
If you guys find any info about the ASUS drive in question please feel free to post here or PM with the news. I think it's a pretty good drive but I would like to use a more well known and proven f/w that allows bit-setting and other advantages of "modded" f/w. tia.......

you might wanna ask Russ about the ASUS odd. i know he has one and recomends them. he might know a little about them...
as far as the MII media goes myself im stearing clear as long as i can get the MIT's, and we know i will never find any of them as MIJ...dang you creaky..lol

Do you really believe that the EGG is gonna "swap" drives with ya?? I'm pretty sure they won't but they might give you a refund and let you spend that money as you see fit. :P What's wrong with that drive again?? Sorry but I've read so much about ODD's lately it's all running together. lol.

as far as burning nothing is wrong seems pretty typical litey.
but the trywhen it eject its like it is gonna fall out of the drive. real sloppy and loose.....damn im not gonna touch that there..lol

Oh that's bad!! I guess you need a bigger disc. hehehe. :P I doubt it'll fall apart. lol. If it burns ok then I'd not worry to much. ;) Did you d/l that CK special f/w for the LH-20A1S? If not you should at least try it, oh and use the one with all the goodies first!!! :D

patched eos-fbl-eoht should be the one with all the goodies in it. :) You should be able to d/l CK's new utility and set what you need with it as well. You know bit-settings and such...

Yeh been doing some reading and the 215 is a good burner fo sho. ;) I personally think that Pioneer and LG make the best burners. My experience of course but the product with my drives is consistently "better" than the other drives that I have. Of course I'm basing that on Nero Quality Scans. lol. BUT that's the only "scale" I have to use. :P

FYI... this is for the Lite-On DH-20A3P and cross flashing from a Sony AD-7190A or Sony DRU-190A
for rick and others wondering about this "transformation" :)
Go here for the "test" f/w XV66 for the Lite-On DH-20A3P (Sony AD-7190A)
Unfortunately the codeguys website is down so I can't provide links to their site. So I went ahead and signed up at a file sharing thingy. lol.
Eeprom utility ........ eeprom page at CDF
flash_utility 2.2.2 ........ CDF page for utility
settings utility 1.1.0 ......... settings utility page at CDF
smartburn 3.2.0 basically the old version of the settings utility... some people just like it better for some reason. lol.
First thing you wanna do is back up your EEPROM!! Assuming you've d/l these utilities you should be able to use them when prompted... ;)
Ok now that you've d/l the progies. lol.
Start the Eeprom utility, select "Back up your EEPROM", select a place where you won't forget you put it.
NOW go and find the f/w you downloaded. Make sure you get the correct f/w, again this could be "bad" if you don't. lol. Most times it will let you flash back (or use the correct f/w) but if NOT then there's the reason you saved your Eeprom. If that's the case just start up the Eeprom utility again and flash with the saved eeprom (f/w).
Once you've decided you have the "correct" f/w; XV66HT716WIN for the Lite-On DH-20A3P drive (and in rick's case the Sony AD-7190A) DOUBLE click the f/w flasher and make DANG sure you choose the right drive. READ before you proceed (which it will ask if you have the "correct" drive, well it should...lol)!! When you have the confidence that you've chosen the "right" drive, click UPDATE and it should install the XV66 f/w for you. Of course make sure the door is closed and NO discs are inside the drive.
It will let you know it's done. If there isn't a prompt for restarting your computer, DO IT NOW!!! When it comes back online (computer is up and going) you should be able to go to the device manager or even open IMGBURN or something similar and see your NEW Lite-On DH-20A3P drive, assuming you chose that f/w for that drive. lol.
GOOD LUCK making heads or tails of this.
Any questions please direct them, hmmmmmmmmmmm.... , here I guess. lol. And one of the fine peoples here will do there best to help you. :)

add: i did this sorta late at night so if anything seems out of sorts, lemme know by PM or here on the thread. I hope this helps some of the folks out with cross flashes on the Lite-On drive. BUT remember flashes like this void your warranty even if it's the next frimware. Well maybe they changed that but I don't think so.
