Burning a game for the slim ps2 is the same as any other ps2. get yourself the free software called DVD Decrypter (for DVD based games) and please read this thread as it will tell you step by step how to burn games. trust me. even reading a few pages should get you started. oh and if you don't have a modified ps2 then you're wasting your time..because well, read the title of the forum..

check out teammodders.com for modchip information. they'll even install one for you

What JDevil said 100 times over! And yeah, if you dont have any modifications, TM is by far the best place around to get your console chipped. Davbere, Evan and Sadalius will treat you real good :)

hey I know this will sound annoying after 146 pgs but this thread seems the msot related to my problem so here goes. Ive got a ps3 from japan and my ps2 is from europe. So japan - NTSC - europe - PAL. Now what i need is a way to play my ps2 games on the ps3. Now something like dvd region x would work or not? or any ideas i might try to make it work? ill try anything.

One other thing anyone know a site i can buy second hand NTSC ps2 games? or cheap new ones?

Well since you're on a forum for modding a ps2 i would have to say get your ps2 modded with a chip and you'll be able to play both PAL and NTSC games. as for ps3 well its still too soon for any add-on devices such as modchips and loader discs but expect them soon. is it possible to return your ps3 and trade for a PAL system. for games i would try half.com or ebay. maybe search the forum topics some more to find a topic similar. i could be wrong about the ps3 stuff because i don't own one yet..but i try to stay up to date with all the new information...hey stang maybe you would know better than i about this..

Im on the same boat as you JDevil. Like JDevil said, you are limited in terms of region compatibily with the ps3, there is nothing you can do about this until some sort of mod surfaces. Just my opinion, but since you already have a ps2, might as well just play your games on it, send it to ghost2fitters (I think thats what it is called) and get it modded, then play anything and everything on the ps2.

Also I am not sure how Sony has set up its firmware locks, especially with respect to backward compatibility. That is the only thing M$ has ever done right....making most 360 games region free(except NTSCJ).

In terms of cheap games, ebay is the only thing I can think of. Sorry I cant be of more help....very good question though. Looks like I need to research a bit more :/

as long as you did everything right you should'nt be getting that message..unless your ps2 isnt modified..if it's not then you're wasting your time..you cannot play copied games without some sort of modification. also are you using dvd-r's??? it doesnt really matter what brand because it will work..i use verbatim DVD-R because they will outlast other brands and i have 100% success rate with my burns. cheaper discs may skip. if you have modified your ps2 with either a chip or using a newly installed flip top with the swap magic discs then let me know what you're doing..start by telling me how you rip the discs to burning them..

Hello,
I too have been trying (without success) to load a copy of a PS2 game. The process of burning the game (Silent Hill 3) into a DVD+R using DVD Decrypter went swell. But now that I use a game shark it does not want to read it when i choose "start game with out cheats" it will on the other hand play original copies of games.

I have a PS2 slim (all three switches modded), Gameshark 2 v1.2, and memorex DVD+R as a copy. If you would like any more information please tell me.

Please help.

Memorex DVD+R

sh!t brand with a media type that many ps2's dont like. Bit set to dvd-rom if you can, might have better compatibility....but in the end you are still using the worst disks possible in terms of the ps2. Work fine with dvd players, ps2 not so much.

so what you are saying is that my main problem is using +R types?
I have heard from many sources that the gameshark is a good way to boot your copies, is this correct?

also, i dont know if this might help or not, but when i switch games from gameshark to copy, (when asked to by gameshark) it starts to read it and after a few seconds it stops spinning and the laser stops functioning.

What I am saying that in general the disks you are using are poop, use crap and get crappy outcomes. +R isnt the main focus, the CMC Mag that you are killing your ps2 laser are. Buy some verbs or Taiyo's, cost the same as the cheapo Walmart brand and are highly reliable.

I know nothing about using gameshark to boot ps2 games. Hopefully somebody can throw in some advice on that.

All i know is:

sounds like a media issue.

yes I used them just to try one game after I received my swap magic and it worked but I have to start the PS2 4-5 times in order to load the game, after that is playing ok, but today I'll get nice DVDs to burn my buck ups.

Burning your games at different speeds does affect the quality of the disc, if you burn too fast there might be some problems (there is higher risk of tripping if you run rather than walk). Also when you download a rar file with many rar files in it you choose the first one, an automatic system will extract the rest in order and usually combines them all into one or two files into the destined folder.

Ok, so I bought some Verbatims DVD-R, burned the game and the same thing happened. I load the game shark, asks me to put in game (i have switches modded) and after a few spins the laser turns off and the game shark screen is still on and frozen. Any suggestions?

i'll explain this and you'll have NO PROBLEMS playing your backup games. BUY the swap magic dvd/cd set. it's super cheap man.. if you're gonna download games and save $$$. then you can just buy the set and not have to worry about any problems. now if you want to get the best mod you can, then dish out about 90 bucks to teammodders.com and they'll install a mod chip for you..then you can put any backup psx, ps2 game into the ps2 just like any normal game and it will play..as you see in this forum we deal with mod chips and swap magic..i would save the gameshark for cheat codes.. and make sure you're using verbatim dvd-r's. I use the 16x from best buy. i burn at 4x using DVD Decrypter. i have done a lot of backups (trust me..A LOT) and i have a 100 percent success rate..absolutely no coasters here..also please dont put labels on the discs..use a sharpie marker. the label will throw the disc spinner off causing skipping. hopefully this helps you more..everything i've said can be found in this forum explained in detail over a hundred times. i've learned everything i know from reading this forum especially reading svtstang's forums..that cat knows his stuff..and it's easy..you'll smack yourself after you make your first successful disc..

I see. Well, i just wanted to see if there was a way since I saw my friend do it with a gameshark (ps2 unmodded) and worked like a charm. I will buy the swap magic disc set although.

i was gonna ask you what version gameshark do you have..and what version does your friend have? I had to use version 3 using the swap magic discs and my flip top ps2. version 4 will not work. i know of a way to get it to work but all in all i would be swapping like 6 times and that's just too much work. also let me ask you this because i know this confused some people. do you have a FAT ps2 (older) or a newer slimline..when we say fliptop we're not talking about the new slimline. you would still need to modify check out this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/220234 I can't say this enough..get your ps2 modded with a chip. go with teammodders.com and they'll fix you up. plus you get a warranty for the chip. no more swapping or anything..just backup games and stick em in and yer ready to play.

Yes this is true as well.. there are a lot of technical stuff that can be involved. but i think they should first just try the swap magic disc set with flip top/modchip. make sure your game is under 4.7 gig in size..some games for ps2 (a very few games) require a DVD-9 which is a double layer dvd..of course the game can be rebuilt to fit a standard blank DVD-R but you're gonna get quality loss and probably no cut scenes/mini movies.. some people have trouble with games that are close to 4.7 gig like scarface or GTA san andreas this is when they're using swap magic..because the games burn so close to the outer edge of the disc (dvds and cd's read from the inner edge to the outer edge)sometimes the lasers skip. this is where good media and bad media come in play.. i was lucky enough to not have any trouble using swap magic. and of course you wont have any trouble with a mod chip. and for those games that are bigger than 4.7 gig. go buy some really really expensive DVD-9 double layer blanks and back those large sized games up with no problem..this is of course when you're using a mod chip. hope this helps you a little.

Wow, I haven't been here in a while.

My friends have big PS2 and don't wanna bother with a fliptop. So they got a HDD, an HDD enclosure to transfer games (Because they don't want to have to burn any DVDs.), and the memory card exploit thing... I think that ran them about $90 right there. I should just tell them to pay that ammount and get it modded... but I wonder if there's any type of garantee or warenty or anything. What if the mod doesn't work or something? I'll have to check out that site.

Um... I don't know if I'm allowed to ask this but... if a game comes in a bunch of rar files, what will happen if you extract the 2nd, 3rd, or maybe even 7th file instead of the 1st? Woudln't it all fall into place anyway?

The break of day is but beyond a cry of hidden sorrow.
