You meant that I should put a fan blowing air out the cpu air duct?

I assume that it has a plastic duct inside that's mounted to the side cover with 4 screws. Most cases like that do. What I meant is to replace the duct completely with a fan exhausting out the cover of the case. The duct is usually the same footprint as an 80mm fan, so the holes should match the fan. The results with mine have been much better than I ever expected they would be! There's also less dust that gets inside the case!

Depending on how big the holes are in the screen on the front of the air duct hole, you may want to consider something less restrictive with larger holes in it.

Pull the motherboard to replace the CPU cooler?

No I was talking about the Northbridge heatsink! I put a 40x20mm 6 cfm Silenex fan on the heatsink on mine. It runs 3000 rpm but is fairly quiet doing it. I had an Evercool first, but it screamed too loud! I've never seen the MB temp go over 41C since then, and that was only while running OCCT.

Yeah thats what I meant, because you're right it is as large as a 80mm fan. I ran Everest stress tests and the temps got to over 60C in 1:29. That's one minute.

Theone, what were your chipset temps like before applying the arctic silver? BTW do you have a difference of about 10 degrees between the CPU temps and the Core temps? I'm guessing because of the newer BIOS the programs are just reading the temps different.

My temps only get to 60C if I run my fan at 55% speed and play games for at least 40 minutes, and my room get very warm as well. In order to overclock well, a better cooler is usually compulsary.

I was hitting 47C most of the time. Now I see 35 to 40C.

Yes I do, but on mine the only thing that increased was the CPU temp. The cores remain the same. That's why I went back to the F10, because the core temps didn't change and the CPU fan ran much higher and made more noise.

I don't really like to run burn-in software on an overclocked machine. I think it puts an un-realistic amount of stress on the components. You will never see that kind of stress in real world use. I think it's fine for a stock setup to check everything before you overclock, but I think it's a bit much after you've done the overclock. I prefer to run Prime95 for 24 hours. I've yet to have OCCT fail if it runs OK for the first 30 minutes. I've run it for 8 and 12 hours, but I just don't think it's a realistic test and it places far too much stress on everything! Just my opinion!

I think I'd agree there, my CPU temps get higher with OCCT then I ever see them normally.

Alright, well I would put AS on my chipset but you guys remember what happened with my Compaq right? Theone, since you seem to have already done it, did it have thermal glue stuff on it? How did you take it off?

I find that with the majority of motherboards, the chipset is just attached using normal thermal grease.

Oh alright cool. So coffee filters work fine for cleaning it off right? Coffee filters and alcohol?
EDIT: Oh and I'm supposed to just put a small drop in the center of the chip?

abuzar1,

I use Automotive Fuel Injector additive or Carburator cleaner and a paper towel. It's not going to scratch anything! Once I've got all the old stuff off I go back and clean that off with alcohol before I put the AS5 on it. I just put a little blob about 3/16" right in the center of the chip and install the heatsink!

Man F.E.A.R is lagging like crazy. Would this be a heat issue? The setting are auto-detect except that I have the CPU part at high. I thought my PC would be able to run it.

What resolution is it? At max, a 7600GT will struggle with FEAR. 1600x1200 is the highest I'm happy with on my card, and it's a lot more powerful than a 7600GT.

Fear runs fine on mine so check in the Advanced section of the setup and see that the CPU Thermal Monitor 2 is turned off. C1E on, is OK as it goes to max as soon as you load it down anyway. Also check your memory speed, multiplier and Latencies. You are a bit short on memory as you really need 2GB for it to perform well.

Hmm, at 1024x768 you should be alright, having only 1GB of memory may see you a bit short though, have you tried closing all other programs before you start playing?

I do close all programs before starting. when I click on test settings I get minimum 60 fps and average 88. Turning off that setting helped a lot. Sad thing is, before I turned off speedstep I was running at stock speed and it seemed to perform better.

I'll try. I'm leaving right now, but when I get back I'll try. Anyway I undervolted and went back to stock speed. Temp went down 3 degrees lol. Same performance if not better in FEAR. Maybe I should run my RAM at faster speeds at tighter timings.

EDIT: You guys said I need more ram. How is this? I currently have this. I just want both kinds of memory to run at the same speeds fine.

Well I upped the FSB to 333, and the ram to 500 mhz. I also managed to get a look at task manager while playing FEAR. Everything runs without any lag now. Some images:

Hey I guess I'm just a retard. Is there any other way, except for the line method to apply arctic silver successfully. I can't seem to get that to work. Oh and do I have to turn my motherboard over and squeeze the plastic things holding the chipset heatsink to the board, or is there another way to remove it.

thats what has to be done, no other way around it.

I know, I've seen them. That's why I said I can't get the line method to work. I've already tried it two times and I guess I always get too thick of a line and then I have to take some off.
